I am on my first cup of coffee here and was up late last night, well early this morning re-listening to Juan's closing....BUT, I thought we were told that the jury was given their choice ,that if they wanted to work the weekend, they could...or did I dream that?

I did not hear that but that would be great. What I think I heard that there was no security at the court house during the weekend and that is why they would not deliberate over the weekend. I could be wrong.

Just a few things this morning. Posted at court site:
5/3/2013 023 - ME: Order Entered By Court - Party (001) 5/3/2013 5/3/2013 029 - ME: Status Conference - Party (001) 5/3/2013
and

IT IS ORDERED the Office of Public Defense shall pay the mitigation specialist, MariaDe La Rosa, compensation for 100 hours of services rendered during the guilt phase of the trial.

So this was all court time? After 3 months its ONLY 100 hours? It seems so much more than that!

I don't sense there's any way Nurmi can turn this train wreck around. The defense's case is too weak, has too many holes in it, and lacks any semblance of a strong foundation. No doubt they will take their last, best shot at portraying Travis as an abusive, sex-crazed maniac. The largest obstacle for Nurmi to overcome today is somehow convincing the jury that Jodi is credible. I don't believe that is attempt is going to be successful nor will he even come close.

I'll go out on a limb here though and venture a guess that we'll hear the words sex, vagina, penis, anus, *advertiser censored* and 3-hole wonder NO LESS than 50 times each today .

Aaaaannnnndddd lets get baaaaaaack to aaaaannnnaaaall seeeexxx.

Will he put the big penis picture up on the big screen again? :floorlaugh:

I hope you are correct. I have no doubt, given the choice, the jury will choose to work so they can get back to their life sometime before Christmas.

Is it possible tbey could work over the weekend? I thought they werr unable to due to budget restraints. If they are able to work over the weekend I think we will definitely have a verdict by then

Budget restraints?! They're worrying about budget restraints at THIS point? The cost of this trial is already up to... well, I don't know, but a lotta $$$$$!So they're gonna worry about the budget now? I would think it would be in everyone's best interest to get this thing over.

I didn't finish watching the closing until late last night - couple of observations

When JM started talking about the murder itself and showed the photos, Wilmott seemed to (finally) disconnect from her killer sorority sister. I watched her face closely and I think she was reminded of just how evil Jodi is. For the rest of closing Wilmott put space between her and Jodi and was facing Juan for the first time in ages. She actually ignored the killer at one point.

I had to smile when Juan was discussing the difference between direct and circumstantial evidence, the beach analogy. At one point he said, so you're there on the beach, "got your Wayfarers on" which is a line straight out of Don Henley's 'Boys of Summer"

I don't know how anyone could listen to that and not vote M1. Nurmi's just going to talk about sex, I think everyone is so over that, nobody believes the jacked-up abuse stories, I really don't know what he could add.

That is exactly what I got out of the 2nd half of closing. Wilmont looked like she aged from morning to afternoon, looked defeated. She also stopped taking notes and probably was thinking "what am I sitting next to." I also did not see the bff interaction when court was over with JA and Wilmont whispering and giggling.

I predict he will throw his hands up, say "I never wanted the case in the first place" and plead for mercy...as long as he wont have to defend her in the appeal.

there are conflicting reports on weekend deliberations....

Jean C & Beth K said not possible because there is no security @ crt

BUT

Jeff Gold tweeted that the Sheriff there on Wed. night when court ran late said the jury would be able to choose whether to deliberate over the weekend

So not sure!

I likely did dream that... I am very sleep deprived..:floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Last I heard, there would be no deliberations on Saturday or Sunday because there is no security at the courthouse, due to the budget and they will not be asked to work this weekend.

I knew I heard that somewhere...thanks!

I cannot imagine the sleep deprivation that the parties to this trial are suffering from....I woke up at 4am and cleaned....I just could not sleep! My brain will not stop :scared:

I heard on HLN JM has 12 other cases..................TWELVE, holy smokes, how does he do it??

Technically, he shouldn't be able to do that, as there wasn't evidence of "a tale of two Walmarts" introduced at trial. In closings, counsel are limited solely to discussing the evidence that has been adduced -- they cannot "testify" by introducing additional facts. Then again, the Judge seems content to let this DT play fast and loose with the Rules of Evidence, so who knows?

I also did not get to finish watching until late last night. I agree with your points. I think JM did a great job of going line by line on what they would need to do to find guilt with premeditation etc. Since FCA gets brought up so frequently lately, this is probably the one thing that Ashton and Co could have done that would have made a difference. IMHO.

I think JM did a fantastic job yesterday of reminding the jurors of the lies she told, not only before, but after she took the oath to tell the truth. She lied right to the jurors and then ALV did the same. I hope the whole abuse information they have received is thrown out the window.

Also, the blond lady (sorry I can't remember her name) that was brought in by JM to coberate the testimony of Dr. D. What were everyone's thoughts on her testimony? I was stuck in the middle wondering if it was helpful or hurtful though it did not seem as if JW was able to pull anything out of her that was helpful to the DT. From a lay standpoint, sitting behind a computer and watching her on Youtube, she seemed like a nice enough lady and seemed to definitely know her business. I didn't find her testimony helpful nor hurtful. Very middle of the road, testimony that backed up somethings and didn't others. I am sure there are several threads regarding the testimony so if anyone can point me to a starting point would appreciate it. These threads go so fast when court is in session it is almost impossible to find what you are looking for! You guys are awesome and discuss things in detail so the threads g e t r e a l l y l o n g.

Thanks again from all of us who can not watch everyday! Hopefully justice for Travis will be swift and right.

I hate to say this because he seems like a nice man. However I do believe Dan had a crush on Jodi - even after Travis died. EVERYONE else said they knew instantly that it was Jodi. Everyone else found her to be spooky and emotionally disconnected. Yet Dan . . . he sort of burrowed his head into the sand and refused to listen to everyone else and refused to look at the obvious. So he visited her in Jail and tried to be helpful to her.

Why he did that is very confusing . . . and I can only deduce he was infatuated with her. It does happen with murderers a lot. Most of the famous ones have many people trying to become romantically involved with them.

ITA

Jodi seduced many men with her looks, soft voice and body. I believe once she bleached her hair blonde and got breast implants she found out how powerful she was with men. She honed her skills and became an expert in seduction. You can see how she tried to seduce Det. Flores in the tapes. She also seduced LaViolette and Dr. Samuels.

Sometimes, men only see what it is in front of them, not what is inside of a person.

Interesting that most of the women saw right through Jodi. They had more insight in what she was doing and what she was made of.

Maybe Juan doesn't know if the CD's existed, either, but maybe he's doing the same thing with the CDs as he did the gun. (If the gun was Travis' then she 'burgled' it and can be charged with felony murder.)

If she wants to say she brought the CDs, then, so be it. Bringing them from Yreka only adds another 'premeditation nail' for her coffin. She certainly wasn't bringing them to show Ryan Burns.

Wonder if Einstein regrets some of her smart a$$ testimony yet? :floorlaugh:

Just wanted to butt in here. I was watching HLN and they showed a evidence photo of the CD that had the photos on it. She had wrote on it personalizing it to Travis and it said it was pictures of their trip. I am on HLN right now seeing if I can find the picture.

and.......

"If I killed Travis, I would beg for the death penalty".

Yes, play those tapes in the killers own words.

Those should be the last words the jury hears. :stormingmad:

BEST last remark upon closing rebuttal.

The part of Juan's closing statement where he paints the picture of what happened during the killing is so powerful, and what does JA do? She sits there with that "poor me" expression on her face. Not once has there been any genuine remorse or any real tears. If you had really done such a heinous thing to someone you cared for surely you would be sobbing your heart out . She has cold, dead eyes and a cold, dead heart and the DP should be the ONLY outcome.
