Maybe this has been discussed, but an obvious question is - why he was going to meet friends that early? Skiing seems like a strong possibility. I wonder if he had originally planned to stay overnight with his friends in Bayfield Sunday night and then go skiing the next morning.

Skiing... Good idea! That is an early morning activity (driving to slopes, etc.)...

I couldn't carry the quote from post #241 over to my post here so giving the credit there. Per Kevin Torres' facebook post 2 hours ago:

"Just spoke with the owner of the search and rescue dogs he told me that all three of his dogs picked up a strong scent where these three cones are floating in the water. they noticed it over the last two days. he says the chances of it being a human body are high. he says it is highly unlikely that it is anything else like an animal or critter. when I asked him whether it could be absolutely nothing he said that is unlikely. At this point we are still waiting for the New Mexico dive team to get into the water."

Any experts... is this typical language for owner of s/r dog, such strong word choices("chances high" "unlikely it's an animal, critter or nothing")? What are other realistic options?

Lots of maybes. Sounds pretty typical, the SAR guy may know the reporter and in that case will speak much more freely.

I agree... It is easy to get tunnel vision ... and I certainly don't want to do that... But dad has been so silent ....that it is deafening... IYKWIM...

I've just been following along quietly, I really don't know what to say. I just feel sick over this young guy. I just wanted to add that you put my feelings about the silence into words IHAVENOCLUE. Thanks.

Be more in keeping to text, wouldn't it? Most kids I know (admittedly that's not many!) seem to prefer texting to actual interaction...!
The article with Dylan's friend comments stated that he tried to text and call Dylan all Monday with no response. :(

Also, if I'm understanding correctly, there has been no activity on Dylan's phone since 8pm Sunday. That just seems odd for a kid that age. If he were at home waiting for his dad to pick him up later, he would have been texting, on FB, etc if he were awake and alone for any length of time and you would think he would have continued to text the night he got in. It's possible someone came in right after the dad left, but seems unlikely unless it was someone known to them who was aware the dad would be out for a while.

And if there was a suspected abduction from the home... It seems, like, dad would,be explaining details supporting that possibility...

for instance... Screen was cut...
Or

Door was,ajar...
Or

Dirt dragged in...
Or

Etc..

Indeed. But the father would have to explore all possibilities in his frantic search, and due to the recent discussion about going to the friends house, it would make sense to check (incase, say the friend called and said, "My mom can pick you up", etc.)

Dylan's trip to see friends could also have been postponed bc he didn't do his chores, or something, I don't know, just playing devil's advocate.

The no phone activity after 8 is odd though.

BBM ... I would absolutely agree with this if the father went to the friend's house immediately after coming home and finding Dylan gone. He obviously knew where the friend lived, so why not go there first? Why wait several hours?

*sigh*

I'm going back trying to look at the communication Dylan had (supposedly) once at his dad's house. Mom's last contact w/him was Sunday evening when he texted her that he arrived safely and ended text msg w/"scowl face". This may be far -fetched but I'm wondering if dad's house being in woodsy isolated area possibly didn't have cell reception? Any at all or good cell reception? I've lived in places where there is none and they're far less desolate than what I understand the father's area to be like. Just keeping an open mind maybe Dylan threw some of his things in a bag and went for a walk trying to get reception.

Otherwise there's some 'splainin to do between Sunday at 8pm and 7:30am if Dad's account if true. What was Dylan doing during those 11 1/2 hours? Was he just hanging out? Did he go outside? Do they have a yard? Did they talk (I get the feeling they didn't)? Did he bring Xbox or gameboy or whatever the kids use these days? As has been asked already, does dad have home computer?

I'd love to know if Dad has allowed LE to go through the home, vehicles, phones (cell/landline), computer/internet, etc. or has required search warrants. Wouldn't we all love to know...

the fact that the reports have stressed that this "visit" was only happening because a court ordered it and the fact that mom said dylan sent the text upon arrival with the scowling smiley face -- somehow these two things are not good, why would any parent think a kid that didnt want to be there in first place was going to either sit in an empty house while he ran "errands" for 4 hours or go with them while he ran these "errands" -- in other words, why not let him see his friends? that doesnt seem out of line to allow? all the "between the lines" feelings are hostile and unfriendly...jmho

Yes... Let Dylan visit friends....,or make his (dad's) home visitor-friendly... Invite friends over, plan fun activities... There is no shortage of great activities in Colorado!

I can't even imagine how difficult this must be for Dylan's mom, especially with the lake searches and everything.

Thank you! Such demanding work SAR teams do to find "something" or to find "nothing". Very appreciative for the dedication.

Exactly what I have been thinking! I can't even begin to imagine the waiting from now until tomorrow am for the search to resume. Ugh!

Has anyone read why they were searching this particular area?

I agree. He doesn't seem visible in the search whereas the mom, brother, moms boyfriend, etc. have been. When Jessica Ridgeway went missing, her parents were in a custody battle as well but they united for the search. IMO, that's because neither of them was involved and they were able to put aside their differences because of their shared love for her. Why is that not happening in this case? i have never been in this situation, thank God, so maybe i am talking out of turn but I feel like we would see and hear more from Dad if he had nothing to hide.

i believe 3 dogs hit in the area

Per Kevin Torres:
As of 10:30 AM search dogs were brought out onto the Lake and they found four locations where they picked up what appears to be human scent. the sheriff i spoke with, who Has been on the force for 34 years says that he has never had to deal with a situation like this involving a missing teen where they can't find any clues. New Mexico dive team is about to enter the lake within the next hour or two. 32 minutes ago

Keep in mind folks - it could be nothing. We should know more in a couple of hours. 13 minutes ago

This is as far back as I can trace it on this thread.

oh, from ground search the dogs hit, then they started the water search? is that right? but was it just a routine ground search or a tip or what that lead to this particular area. that is what is confusing to me
