Hi everyone! I just found this case today and have been reading backwards trying to get caught up. Would someone mind summarizing what is known up to this point? From what I understand (correct me if I am wrong):

1. Jessica went missing between her house and the park (where she meets up with other children to walk to school with) around 8:30 am Friday.

2. Mom was napping and did not get the school message until 4:30 pm. School lets out around 3:30. What time would she normally make it home by?

3. Her backpack and water bottle were found on a sidewalk in a neighborhood approx 6 miles from her home.

4. She lives with Mom, Grandma, and Aunt?

5. Family has not spoken to media - but they are recording an interview to be aired sometime today?

6. 2 other attempted lurings in Arvada:
Arvada Police are investigating the two attempted abductions. The first occurred last Sunday around 5:30 p.m., near 77th Drive and Terry Court. An 8-year-old boy was playing basketball in his driveway when he says he was approached by a man.

The second incident happened three days later Wednesday, again around 5:30 p.m. This time, the suspect went into the parking lot of Fitzmorris Elementary School in Arvada and approached a 9-year-old boy. He again offered the child candy if he would get into the suspect's car. This child also ran from the suspect.

7. Great Grandmother's house has been searched (paternal GM and father live together in MO): "The search for Ridgeway was extended to Missouri, where her father and grandmother both share a home. "The police asked if they could search my house and I said yes because we'd do anything in the world to get her back, "Donna Moss, Jessica's grandmother. Told CBS news on Monday. "We want her back as soon as we can get her." Read more at http://www.christianpost.com/news/je...ta25MDQ0dY3.99

Any other pertinent info? THANKS!!

This is probably what they (news this morning) were talking about.......

The search for Ridgeway expanded Monday with more than 100 hundred people combing roadsides and rocky terrain. Meanwhile, police are checking reports that three weeks ago a suspicious man was seen approaching children.

"It's a piece but at this time we have nothing to say that is related to the disappearance of Jessica," said Materasso.

Very possible, carbuff.. Thank goodness that the good samaritan sent out the community email and the dots were connected. The dna forensics contained by the backpack may be the key to solving the Jessica Ridgeway case...

I presume that if somebody had come forward with information they had moved the backpack, LE would NOT have told the public.

I am so worried about her. Her picture with the glasses really grabbed me. I am hoping beyond hope she will make it home safe.

Welcome onebyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK somebody mentioned home values in the last thread and I thought it might be helpful to know this: Westminster and Superior are in two different counties. Rock Creek is a newer community than the one Jessica is from, yes, but the fact that Superior is in Boulder County adds big bucks onto a price tag. I could get a house just like one in Rock Creek in Westminster for $50-$100k less easy.

I wish we could afford Boulder County, but we can't touch the housing market there

Well shoot Cosmith... I just saw this tweet (they do NOT say they are connected but the fbi is investigating)

FBI says it's investigating Monday abduction of 11 y/o girl (now safe) in Cody WY. Unknown if any connection to #JessicaRidgeway case. @abc

(then again the fbi investigates abductions so not sure if this means anything or not)

Random thought, but I'm reminded of Sherry Arnold's abduction and murder...

So I didn't really read the other thread, just kind of skimmed through, so I do not know if this has been brought up yet.

Back at the end of May, a man tried to kidnap a jogger at Ketner Lake Trail and apparently it wasn't the first time, either.

I know that an adult and a kid are different but perhaps a kid was easier because he was not having any luck with adults.

I wonder if the kidnapper has had his eye on a young girl who lives near the place the backpack was found? Leaving Jessica's backpack there could be like saying "you could be next".

Of course that would be a stupid risk to take since his prints or other forensic evidence could be on the backpack. He probably got a high from successfully kidnapping poor Jessica, so maybe he was feeling so triumphant and invincible that he couldn't resist "bragging".

MOO

Also, this is all speculation and just my mind wandering....didn't somebody say that trash day in that neighborhood was either Monday, Wednesday, or Friday? If it was Friday, there would have been trucks in the neighborhood at some point.

And McCaslin *could* be a route back to the Western Disposal site (landfill), in Boulder.

BTK used to like to taunt like that. Even some 20 years later...

Imo, the FBI would be remiss in discounting the possibility of the two abductions being related...It's a straight shot and in the same direction of where Jessica's backpack was located. The age and physical description of Katelynn Groves and Jessica Ridgeway are synonymous..

Did the PIO mention the word vacation this morning during the presser? I recall that word being used by someone in the past 24 hours. It gave me the feeling that there is nobody home at one of the houses in Jessica's neighborhood. Also, does anyone know how to find homes for sale in the area? Is Zillow the best site for that? I am wondering about vacant homes and possible squatters.

9News - talking with profiler Van Zandt via phone. Some do leave red herrings, misdirection. Focusing on interviewing people in neighborhood.

I have visited and worked in WY, I have relatives there. They have lots of transient workers, with the methane gas and coal. They have a shortage of housing, so many live in vehicles, campers and cheap motels. They said the SUV had a mattress in the back like someone was living in it.

Is there any kind of work in the CO area that draws workers like this to?

1. Jessica went missing between her house and the park (where she meets up with other children to walk to school with) around 8:30 am Friday.

2. Mom was napping and did not get the school message until 4:30 pm. School lets out around 3:30. What time would she normally make it home by?

-Possible that J. lets herself in after school, if Grandmother was running errands, didn’t notice her lateness, or assumed she had a playdate that wasn’t communicated. Also possible time frame- mom calls school around 4 when Jessica fails to return home, takes a few minutes to call around neighbors/friends before 9-1-1 activated

3. Her backpack and water bottle were found on a sidewalk in a neighborhood approx 6 miles from her home.

8. On Monday, a girl with the following description abducted, later found in Cody, WY:
11 year old white female 4 foot 8 inches tall weighing 70 pounds with BROWN eyes and hair, wears brown glasses

---Personal observations---
KG and Jessica are similar ages and builds. This strikes me as a HUGE red flag. I honestly don’t want to know the answer to “what are the odds” but the reality is that the perp who was in Arvada was after boys- the perp in the KG case was going after a girl of similar age, height, and build to Jessica. Distance from Superior, Colorado (where backpack was found) to Cody WY and a map would be helpful?

Mods, I'm a new poster, hope this is all okay. Just trying to go off of Jules helpful post. :twocents:

Sorry if this is being discussed somewhere else, I'm a new member (and longtime viewer). Has the Westminster PD made any connection with the Cody, WY kidnapping & assault? I can't find any news media making a connection.

We are from Westminster, we now live in the PNW but I have 3 little ones and I am just sick about this. Also, thanks to the CO residents who have posted great information about the area- it can be confusing to those who aren't familiar with Colorado open spaces and neighborhoods.

:welcome: Cosmith! :welcome4:
