I've googled it and cannot find a Kirby Street or Park. Maybe some of the locals refer to Chelsea Park as Kirby....but that doesn't help the fact that there appears to be no Kirby Street. This is too strange.

Not to get too complicated but could the neighbor have said this as a hint of some sort?
Yesterday I heard that there's a commercial complex between Jessica's house and the park. Noone has mentioned it (that's not necessarily true as I've had to skip sections of posts just to keep up), what stores or business are there and if they'd be open at 8:30 a.m. - probably would be.

I see Kirby Vacs are big in Colorado, and notice a few businesses with the name K***y attached to them. One or two of them could probably operate out of a truck for the most part. ONLY SPECULATION.

For reasons such as that....I am armed at all times...

With that said...I never ever hesitate to call 911 when I see odd stuff on my street. I have called 911 many times...even last week when I saw a suspicious person going door to door.

We all have to be the eyes and ears of our neighborhoods! Pay attention. Be aware.

Can I ask what your weapon of choice is. I am about to buy a gun myself, but not sure what to get. tia

I would like to dedicate this song to Jessica, & to all our precious children - and as well to Gatekeeper's pup. Some of you may be old enough to remember when this song was released. I think about it often when reading about the loss of a child/pet.

I will post the link once again to the virtual candle room for Jessica and her loved ones that some of us were visiting two evenings ago, in case anyone would like to light another candle or light one for the first time. The candles burn for 48 hours.

Fifty-four persons from four countries have lit candles in Jessica's memory so far.

Thank you so, so much for the link. My 11 y.o. daughter (who knows none of the details) and I held hands, prayed, cried, and lit a candle. Now, I want justice.

Just catching up and I am just so deeply sad for this outcome and for her family. There are no words. I will give my little ones big long hugs tonight!

I'm coming out of lurk mode for this.

This case reeks of a perp who pre-planned this assault. Just as a burglar cases his place to rob, the person they are looking for cased this child. He knew her path to school, probably knew her mothers work schedule and knew the father wasn't in the home. That doesn't mean he knew the family personally - just that he is close by. Surely they are concentrating on the path to the park. They also need to question or requestion the other children (and their families) who meet up at the park and walk to school together.

Friday abduction - makes me think of Dave Westerfield, taking Danielle Van Dam. The weekened to do their deviant act, then worry about getting rid of the body. Time of abduction indicates, this person works a 2nd or 3rd shift, has Friday's off, or took the day off, may be unemployed or even retired.

Body not intact - indicates others live close enough around him, that he wouldn't risk moving her whole.

The whole thing is heartbreaking.

In most places Monday was holiday. Was it considered a holiday weekend in that area? Family/roommates/neighbors leaving for the holiday weekend? He has a little space and time.

And the backpack, wasn't it reported somewhere it was located near a home where a child was killed or had died? That backpack in that place was put there for a reason.

I will agree, IMHO, there was planning involved. I hope they find whoever did this and do it soon.

Kelly

I apologize for the gruesome implications of this question, but I am curious about something.

Presumably, the murderer went home and cleaned himself up, at the very least. At most, if the murder took place inside a residence, he would surely have done a significant amount of cleanup.

Can dogs detect a scent in a sewage / drainage system? Would that be a way to trace a scent back to its origin, thus leading LE to the murderer's house?

This may mean I am an idiot, or it may just be a geographical thing but what is a Kirby vac? I guess I should do the google!

That's not where she was found.
She was found at approximately 18444 W. 82nd Ave., Arvada, CO

Is this more accurate?

That's a fantastic system and one I wish all schools could employ.
..and to think, back in my day, an absence from high school only generated a letter home the next day~!

LOL, not me. Back in the 'cave age' the school secretaries phoned the parents of all the kids missing that day. Back then, in our town, there was usually a parent at home during the day, and everybody knew each other. My mum knew ALL the school secretaries, and needless to say, I never skipped a day of school!

It's an interesting thought... maybe a teacher or someone from the school that worked at Jessica's school previously and transferred to this other school.

Hmmm....that brings me back to this guy:

Wonder where he is working now?

As I noticed the other day, he bears an uncanny resemblance to the "candy man" sketch

I have Life360 on both my phone and my DD's phone. It's a free app for smartphones (I think there might be a way to use it on other devices, but I'm not sure) and it is a family tracking service. Now I can always look at my phone and it will tell me exactly where my DD's phone is at any time. If I can't put a GPS chip inside her arm, I guess this is the next best thing. (I'm only half-joking about the GPS chip)

Just FYI in case anyone is interested in it.

Thank you for this! My kids are 12 & nearly 17 but I just set all of our phones up. Sure the oldest is driving me nuts by checking in from every room in the house but my baby is happy knowing that by pressing one button he can get a call, text and email to both of his parents and his big brother at once (yes, he has tried it out).

I hope we never need this service but I'm happy to have it just in case.

This case seems kind of similar. It happened right next door in Utah. Rebecca was also kidnapped walking to school. Her body was found in a shed, not far from the road. It looks like a very suburban area now, not sure how it was in 1983.

Rebecca Lemberger: Rebecca Lemberger, 11-years-old left her house at approximately 8:10 am, walking to school, Edison Elementary school located at 935 East 1050 North, Ogden, Utah. Rebecca did not make it to school and when she did not return home after school her parents contacted the Ogden Police Department to report her missing. On March 3, 1983, at approximately 2:00pm, Rebecca was found deceased in a shed located in a field in the area approximately 250 feet West of 729 North Mountain Road, Ogden. Rebecca died as a result of blunt force injuires to the head.

I am reading old articles in this huge newspaper article database I have access to. I will post more cases that seem similar when I find them...

I wondered how they were going to analyze all the cell tower data for commonality with 100's of thousands of calls pinging those towers. I pray it works and it leads to one individual...the one who did this unspeakable act.

With all the knowledge of location tracking today I would surely think a perp wouldn't be so stupid to bring his cell phone with him. I hope that he is but I will be utterly shocked.

I just want to point out (again, sorry to those of you who have heard this before!) we really don't know that the dogs tracked anything. All we know is that the dogs and their handlers walked from the backpack to the local elementary school and back. They were also seen walking on other roads in the area. It could just mean that the handlers were canvassing the area to see if there was a scent trail to pick up, or it could have been a trail. There is no way to know which from just an observation, and the reporter only said what she saw. No one has said that the dogs actually found any trail.

While there's been no official word from LE, it has been reported on many sites, and by several reporters. I know rumors fly in cases like these, but many times, where there is smoke, there's fire. Just an angle I think should be explored- however, if it is true, I'm sure LE is on top of it. Scent or no scent, I still think workers at the school should be thoroughly investigated. I can't imagine a complete stranger abduction at this time of day with no-one seeing or hearing anything. JMO.
Regardless, prayers to this sweet child's family and friends. May God grant them the strength they need to continue. While we can seek justice for Jessica, it will never be enough to return their lives to normal. To lose a child in this manner has to be unbearable. While I will never understand why- some things are just too precious for this world. Fly high baby girl.

Shefner, that is so sweet.

It reminded me of my mama, who also sang her way through our days.

I hope no one will find this morbid!

When my mother died, I was sitting at her bedside holding her hand. I felt her spirit soar up out of her worn out body. Such a sense of joy came over me at the same time. I know her spirit rejoiced in her freedom just as I know the sun will rise tomorrow morning.

Whatever happened to Jessica, I know her spirit sprang free and is no longer affected by whoever did this.

Thank you for sharing that.... my bruised soul needed to hear that tonight.

I'm not saying he was clever. It's hard to believe someone would make the crime scene messier than it already was by dismembering the victim.

What I am saying is the perp was clearly putting a lot of thought into what to do next early on, even when he was making mistakes. When you contrast the depth of the thought process involved in the decision to remove the limbs and head in order to conceal evidence against the shallowness of the thought process of ditching the bag in broad daylight, the contrast is very stark. My opinion is this opposite extreme was most likely due to time constraints as he was trying to hide the body.

This guy just didn't plan ahead, because it was likely a crime done impulsively.

It's like walking into a calculus exam without studying beforehand. You start off working really hard to figure out the answer to number 1 and then wrack your brain on number 2, and so on. The next thing you know, it's two minutes before the bell and you're only on #21 of a 25 question test, so you just start putting answers down at the end out of desperation without any in-depth thought process. That seems to be the type of situation the perp had gotten himself into, thinking so hard on what to do early on with each step taking a lot longer than expected, and then finally resorting to half-assing out of desperation at the end with very little thought process, just trying to hurry and get done before his mommy came home from work or Junior came home from band practice.

My mom taught at my school from grades 9-12, lol. She had to take rotation on coming out to the "hill" where everyone smoked and tell them to break it up:(
Embarrassing...

Yep, that's the one I was talking about a couple pages back. His picture looks a lot like the recent sketch for alleged abductions in Westminster. Here's the link http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/10/11/police-not-ruling-out-possible-connection-to-attempted-abduction-suspect/

If the crime was one of opportunity, the perp probably had their phone. Even if planned they might have had it.

They had a case on 48 hours last week where two women in Louisiana were convicted of murdering one's husband and essentially the main evidence was that both had cell phones who pinged off the murder site area. I would think if you actually plan a murder you would not bring your cell phone but perhaps people do not think those things out.
