Patrick Frazee arrested, charged with first-degree murder
A Teller County deputy tells News 5 that Patrick Frazee, Kelsey Berreth’s fiancé, has been arrested Friday morning.

Court documents show Frazee has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond.

Woodland Park Police arrested Frazee with the assistance of the Teller County Sheriff’s Office. We’re told the arrest occurred without incident.

Woodland Park Police said they will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. We are still waiting to receive Frazee’s booking photo.

We will provide live coverage of that news conference on-air on KOAA 5 and online at KOAA.com.

The news follows recent searches of Berreth’s home where News 5 saw investigators take several loads of evidence Thursday night.

Investigators then zeroed in on searching Berreth’s home days after News 5 also talked with one of Berreth’s neighbors on Monday. That neighbor said she had previously seen two red pickup trucks at Berreth’s home on Thanksgiving Day, when Frazee said he picked up the couple’s daughter.

Fiancee of missing Colorado mom Kelsey Berreth is arrested and charged with murder | Daily Mail Online
Police arrived at the Teller County home of Frazee before daybreak on Friday morning.

He was transported to the Teller County Jail a source with knowledge of the investigation tells DailyMail.com, and the FBI and members of the CBI are now searching the property.

That same source said that Frazee's arrest came after authorities obtained new information about Berreth that has lead them to believe she is no longer alive.

Frazee has yet to be booked on any charges at this time.

Frazee had previously allowed authorities to search his property last week, but after two days combing the 35-acre property there was no news from officials and Frazee returned to his home.

Authorities then returned to the property of Monday for what they later said was just a routine check, and again left without making an arrest of sharing any update on the case.

On Thursday night, officials were seen at Berreth's townhouse well into the night, and just hours later Frazee was placed in custody.

Prior to Friday, the Woodland Police Department had only said that the evidence gathered during the investigation suggested that Berreth's disappearance was suspicious.

Fiance of missing mother Kelsey Berreth arrested, charged with murder
The fiance of a missing Woodland Park mother who has not been seen since Thanksgiving was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Friday morning, the man's attorney said.

Patrick Frazee was earlier said to be cooperating in the case of 29-year-old Kelsey Berreth, who was last seen on Nov. 22 at a grocery store in Woodland Park, northwest of Colorado Springs. The couple share a child.

Frazee's attorney Jeremy Loew said his client has been arrested. Court documents showed Frazee has been been charged with first-degree murder after deliberation.

An official said the arrest warrant that was executed is sealed,. He was booked into the Teller County Jail. It's not known when Frazee will make his first court appearance.

ABC News reported that Frazee was seen in handcuffs and police don't believe Berreth is alive.

Fiance of missing Woodland Park mom arrested on suspicion of murder
Law enforcement officials have arrested the fiance of Kelsey Berreth, a Woodland Park mom who hasn’t been seen since Thanksgiving.

Patrick Frazee was arrested Friday morning — one week after police initially executed a search warrant at his 35-acre Florissant property, which is about 15 miles west of Woodland Park, where Berreth was last spotted shopping at a Safeway store with her daughter on Nov. 22.

Frazee has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Teller County Jail, 9NEWS has confirmed.

The Woodland Park Police Department plans to hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Friday. 9NEWS will stream it online and on Facebook, as well as air it on 9NEWS.

Homicide cases very rare in Woodland Park and Teller County

WOODLAND PARK – The arrest of Patrick Frazee in Woodland Park on a charge of first-degree murder is an unusual event for the area. With a population of a little more than 25,000, the county is home to people looking for a quieter pace of life and easy access to the great outdoors.

Data obtained by News5 shows the Teller County Sheriff’s Office has investigated just three homicides since 2008, which includes two cases in 2013 and one case in 2011.

None of the other law enforcement agencies in the county, including Woodland Park, have investigated a homicide case in more than 10 years. Just next door in Fremont County the Sheriff’s Office has a caseload of 5 unsolved homicides in 2018.

In stark contrast to the quieter nature of Teller County, there’s the much larger El Paso County to the east. Detectives have seen 9 homicides in unincorporated parts of El Paso County this year. And in the last 10 years, a total of 61 cases.

That’s not including cases under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Springs Police, where 36 homicides occurred just in 2018 so far.

At a Friday press conference, authorities said more arrests in the case are possible and that cell phone records and other data led to Frazee’s arrest.

The couple’s daughter had been staying with Frazee after Berreth disappeared but is now in protective custody, authorities announced.

Family member JoDee Garretson, who is first cousins with Berreth’s mom, tells PEOPLE, “I’m just relieved. I saw that [the girl] is safe. I don’t know where she is — but I did see she’s safe.”

Authorities said Frazee was also charged with soliciting another person to kill Berreth. No one else was arrested, suggesting that the person may be cooperating with the probe.

De Young said Frazee was taken into custody around 7 a.m. at his home in Florissant and was currently in jail. An arraignment is scheduled for next week.

The police chief refused to reveal any motive for the slaying. He said evidence gathered at Berreth’s home led investigators to believe that her death occurred there.

“Investigators have recovered items at Kelsey’s residence to make us believe the crime happened there,” De Young said.

He also said: “As you can tell, sadly, we do not believe Kelsey is alive.”

Earlier Friday, Frazee’s attorney confirmed his client’s arrest to Fox 31 Denver. The attorney Jeremy Loew did not return a request for comment from Fox News.

Frazee was the only person arrested in the case as of Friday morning, De Young said, and officials wouldn't provide any more detail about how they came to the solicitation charge.

Under the solicitation statute, a suspect would not only have discussed committing a crime with another person but would have taken steps to see it through, May said.

"So, it isn't just a discussion," the prosecutor said. "You've actually done something that shows the firmness of your actions."

Berreth's phone did end up in Idaho, De Young confirmed Friday, adding that police are still working to recover it.
