Christopher Watts mistress Nichol Kessinger speaks about Frederick murders
Kessinger approached investigators before Watts’ arrest and participated in multiple police interviews, describing details of their relationship and what he had told her about his missing family.

Watts told her that he had two daughters and, after Kessinger asked, Watts said he was separated and at the end of divorce proceedings, she said.

“I believed him,” she said.

When they first met outside of work in late June, Kessinger asked Watts more questions about his divorce. He told her the mutual divorce was almost final, and they were working out financial details, she said.

About 3:45 p.m., Watts texted that his family was “gone,” she said. He told Kessinger that Shanann had taken the girls to a play date and had not returned. He seemed casual and didn’t show any emotion, she said.

Extended Interview: Cindy Watts, Chris Watts' mother, questions son's plea deal
Cindy Watts says Shanann said a lot of things about Chris in front of her that she didn't like.

"This isn't the kind of person I would date."
"He looks like a skater boy."
"Look at his hair."

Cindy says they didn't go to the wedding because she and Shanann didn't get along. When CW mentioned divorce to her, she thought “he had finally seen the light.”

She complains about his attorneys, suggesting that they didn’t provide him with an adequate defense, she was unable to communicate with CW, and not allowed to speak with him prior to the plea. She doesn’t understand why he pled, since the death penalty isn’t used in Colorado, and death row might be better than prison.

"I don't think he had the right person by his side. That relationship was toxic from the very beginning."

Wow, this case just keeps going with more unbelievable moments than you could make up. Cindy- he did not talk to us about his personal life but you could see it, yet they know just what he is supposed to be thinking and doing. “the right person by his side”- sums up what everyone has been saying, she does not think her boy is capable.

Chris Watts’ Mistress Breaks Silence About Affair with Triple-Murderer: 'He Lied About Everything'
The mistress of admitted triple-murder Chris Watts said she was tricked into believing he was a loving father finalizing a divorce — and had no idea his wife was 15-weeks pregnant until she and their two daughters went missing in August.

He’s a liar,” Nichol Kessinger, 30, told The Denver Post in an interview published Thursday about the man she met through work. “He lied about everything.”

A source close to Watts tells PEOPLE, “It’s very clear that this wasn’t a healthy marriage for many months before Shan’ann and the girls died. He had checked out, and from what he says, she had checked out, too. Nichol Kessinger showed interest, and in his mind he was single, so it happened. He really regrets that Nichol got pulled into this.”

These rights include making a written and/or oral victim impact statement. At the sentencing hearing scheduled for November 19, 2018 this Court will afford the paternal grandparents OR their designee and opportunity to deliver a victim impact statement. The Court does not authorize the acceptance of the Entry of Appearance."

Chris Watts, who killed wife and daughters, 'lied about everything,' mistress says
One month before the killings, Chris Watts, 33, started dating Kessinger, she told the newspaper. They met through work in June, she said.

Chris Watts texted Kessinger that his wife took the girls to a play-date and never returned -- but he appeared nonchalant and emotionless, she told the newspaper.

Kessinger told the paper she peppered her boyfriend with questions but said he would try to change the subject.

Christopher Watts’ ex-girlfriend says he lied to her about the disappearance of his wife and daughters
The ex-girlfriend of a Colorado man who pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant wife and their two young daughters described how he lied to her throughout their relationship and sent a chilling text message the day his family disappeared.

She said Watts had also texted her the day his family vanished saying they were "gone."

“It got to a point that he was telling me so many lies that I eventually told him that I did not want to speak to him again until his family was found,” she said.

Chris Watts’ Mistress Revealed Affair to Police After His Wife & Kids Vanished: 'Wanted to Help'
Nichol Kessinger, 30, spoke out for the first time in an interview with The Denver Post published Thursday. Kessinger, who met Watts through work, was the woman whose name was redacted from an affidavit for Watts’ arrest which said he was having an affair, a law enforcement source confirms to PEOPLE.

Kessinger told the Post that on Aug. 13, the day Shan’ann and the girls went missing, Watts texted her saying he’d been busy but the two conversed normally throughout the workday.

On the morning of Aug. 15, Kessinger called the Weld County Sheriff’s Office and discussed her affair with Watts and his lies to her, she said. She also spoke with investigators from the FBI. Later that night, Watts was arrested.

Chris Watts’ parents expected to make statement at Monday’s sentencing, letter claims son was coerced into plea
Cindy and Ronnie Watts, the parents of Frederick triple homicide suspect Chris Watts, filed an entry of appearance Wednesday in Weld District Court in hopes of making a statement at their son's sentencing hearing on Monday.

On Thursday, the Weld District Attorney's Office announced the sentencing hearing, which takes place at 10 a.m. Monday, has been moved to Division 16 from Division 17. Overflow will be held in Division 17, where a feed will be set up to allow stragglers to listen to the hearing.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled for two hours. It will be followed by a 1 p.m. news conference with the Weld District Attorney's Office.

Also on Monday, the court received an email from a “K Almand,” an assumed representative for Cindy and Ronnie Watts. In the letter to Judge Kopcow, Almand claims the Colorado Public Defenders Office, which is defending Watts, has denied Cindy and Ronnie access to their son.

Cindy, Ronnie and an unnamed sister finally gained access to Watts for 30 minutes each the night before the sentencing hearing, Almand claims. Cindy asked her son if a plea deal is what he wanted.

“Do not ask him that or we will shut this (expletive) down now,” said an unnamed attorney before Watts could respond, according to Almand’s letter.

Almand said that type of “bullying” has been common in the Watts family’s dealings with the public defender’s office.

Parents of Chris Watts tell judge they have been denied access to their son | Daily Mail Online
'They have felt threatened and bullied when all they want to do is see their son and make sure this is his plea since that is not what his original confession was,' the letter read.

'The family feels that Chris has been coerced into making this confession.

'He has been isolated the entire three months and had contact with no one except the attorneys and his jailers.

'The family feels he has been told by the Public Defender that he has no other options that to take this plea and has therefore accepted his fate.'

They claim it is an 'attempt to quickly close this case'.

The court on Thursday agreed to allow Cindy and Ronnie to make a statement at their son's sentencing next week.

It comes after Watts' parents said last week they believed his claim that he killed his pregnant wife in a vengeful 'rage' after discovering she had just strangled their two daughters.

Christopher Watts’ mother plans to speak at sentencing Monday
According to Weld County District Court documents, Cindy Watts and her husband, Ronnie, will be allowed to make a statement at the sentencing, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. in Greeley.

“It’s so hard. I am just trying to get our thoughts together,” Cindy said.

On Friday, Cindy told FOX31 and Channel 2’s Deborah Takahara that she wants Christopher to know she loves him and will always love him. She also said she hopes another family never has to go through the same thing.

“I want to know one day what happened,” Cindy said. “I have accepted this is what he wants to do, I just want to tell him I love him.”

Cindy said she spoke with Christopher prior to his guilty plea. She said she urged him not to plead guilty to something he did not do. He then told her it was his decision. According to Cindy, she told her son that it is not what he expected for his life. He agreed and asked about the children’s memorial services and which pictures were used.

Chris Watts' parents given permission to speak during son's Monday sentencing in murder case
The parents of Chris Watts will get the opportunity to provide victim impact statements at their son’s sentencing hearing Monday but their attorney will not be allowed to address the court, the judge in the case ruled on Thursday.

19th Judicial District Court Judge Marcelo A. Kopcow ruled that Cindy and Ronnie Watts should be able to speak in court Monday and deliver victim impact statements in which they could ask the judge for a more-lenient sentence for their son. They can also deliver such statements through a designee, according to the judge’s order.

He is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole at Monday’s sentencing hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. MT.

Denver7 will stream the sentencing hearing live and will have coverage throughout the day.

Death penalty expert: Weld County DA made right choice in Chris Watts case
As the sentencing hearing for a Frederick man who pleaded guilty last week in the murders of his pregnant wife and children approaches, experts agree that Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke made the right decision in not pursuing the death penalty in the case.

By not pursuing the death penalty, Rourke saved the family of Shanann Watts years spent wrapped up in the criminal justice system, as well as millions of dollars for taxpayers, according to Michael Radelet, a professor of sociology at the University of Colorado and author of "The History of the Death Penalty in Colorado."

"Even if Mr. Watts would have been executed, it still would not have repaired the damage he did to those three people and their families," Radelet said.

In Colorado, one person has been executed in the last 50 years in the state, according to Radelet. For homicides committed in the 2000s, he said there have been two dozen death penalty prosecutions, but only two have resulted in death sentences. A third case is still pending, and the rest resulted in life sentences or less.

While it's possible Rourke could have won the death penalty in this case, it's becoming increasingly difficult across the state and nation to even fill a jury for death penalty cases. Prospective jurors are asked if they support the death penalty, and Radelet said about 50 percent of people in the country are against it when given the option of life without parole. "That's part of why death penalty trials are so timely and so costly," Radelet said.

"I think it's a just result to an incredibly tragic case, where three people lost their lives and it's awful," Garnett said.

Chris Watts' Triple Murder Case Is Even Crazier Than You Realized
Admittedly, Chris Watts already didn't have a lot going for him.

He had pled guilty earlier this month to killing his pregnant 34-year-old wife Shan'ann Watts, and their daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, in August and he is all but expected to be sentenced to life in prison on Monday.

And since the story came out that the Colorado father who pleaded with cameras for the safe return of his family, calling it "a nightmare that I just can't wake up from," and lamenting "I have no inclination of where they're at," was actually the person responsible for their lifeless bodies ending up on a remote mine field belonging to his former employer, there's been no shortage of people willing to speak out about his character and the problems he and Shan'ann had faced in their six-year marriage.

But none were more damaging than his former mistress, who finally broke her silence in an interview with The Denver Post published Thursday. "He's a liar," asserted Nichol Kessinger. "He lied about everything."

Ultimately, though, while the why and even the how of the murders may provide some measure of closure and solace to the families, they won't change the bottom line. "The tragedy that sits before us today is the loss of four beautiful lives," Rourke continued in the interview granted after Chris' guilty plea, "and no matter what happens today or at a sentencing hearing down the road, we cant get them back."

November 16

Their shock and disbelief are understandable given the horrific circumstances, but Cindy’s perception that her son is “normal,” “easy-going” and doesn’t “have a temper” doesn’t mean he, like many men who have abused or killed their romantic partners, didn’t have a side she never saw. While we may never know what went on in the Watts’ household behind closed doors, most abusers have demonstrably different public and private personas.
