What always puzzles me is the trash dumps. He successfully hid the body so far. Why didn’t he put the rest of the stuff he had to get rid of in the same place? Those trash dumps made him look strange and squirrley and guilty of something. The only reason I can come up with is this. He killed her and immediately hid the body. Then there was the clean up. Instead of going back to the body site he disposed of those things in trash bins everywhere. Not even thinking of cameras? IDK. You would think there are so many better places. He has access to so many rural areas to toss stuff off a cliff or bury it. Like I said, he was fairly successful at hiding a body. I keep thinking the trash runs were red herrings. Look here! Not there! Maybe. And of course, MOO

Yes, lots of red herrings in this case!
Guessing he disposed of things separate from body so if she is found her murder would not be linked to him

Yes. Good point. Flawed logic on his part but we all know he is not so smart. Getting caught in camera at several trash cans.
Just such an odd move.

I think he had to clean and/or sort through that stuff first. Remember, he was seen on camera taking bags of items (as well as loosely carrying other items - clothing/boots) into the elevator near his room. And then, about an hour and a half later, he was seen carrying bags of things out again.

Why in and out with an hour in-between? It seems apparent to me he had to process those items in some way, most likely cleaning off evidence (DNA, prints) or identifying marks that might associate those items with him and/or sorting the items (between things to be tossed and things to be kept).

There is ALSO the possibility that he was going to throw some things away and planned to pass off other things to someone else (say at that long Men's Wearhouse stop). That could be to put more distance between himself and those things if they were later found or it could be that he was passing over valuable items (jewelry, important documents).

I think BM had sexual encounters, both affairs and hook-ups, outside of his marriage. Suzanne's sister alluded to it in her interview. Suzanne herself make statements that lead me to believe that. And of course,"cute girls in Salida". I think his secondary device is related more to that vs an accomplice. I just don't think BM trusted anyone enough to depend on their help and continued silence. I keep remembering what he said about the election fraud: Everybody cheats. That's not a statement you hear from a guy who is filled with trust.

MOO

This sure makes SD look like an accomplice. The call to the CBI tip line.
@OldCop, question:
Since LE knew she deleted items on her phone, couldn’t they obtain a warrant to retrieve everything she deleted from her phone? Wouldn’t it still be retrievable, in a cloud or somewhere?
They may be able to retrieve them. They were able to retrieve some of BM’s deleted texts. I’m not an expert on how the forensics folks retrieve data. I know a lot depends on the provider, if there’s info in the Cloud, etc.
Maybe someone more versed in this area can chime in?

I have been trying to find out where the SIM card location is too, but haven't had any luck. Guess they don't want would-be thieves finding out where it is? Hopefully you'll have better luck than I.

I don't believe the location of the SIM card would be on any attachment, including the bucket. So I don't think removing the blade was to get to the SIM card. It seems to me the SIM card location would need to be part of the main bobcat. There are aftermarket GPS tracking devices for it that have connectors that look like they just plug in, but who knows where that would be. I was thinking maybe near the engine, but maybe they'd route it away from the engine heat?

You have a really good point about the "other" not being the blade change. For safety reasons, it seems they'd position the bucket where desired and then turn it off before replacing the blade, in which case I don't think it would register as anything. When I see "other" that makes me think the bobcat software doesn't really know what message to log, so it defaults to "other". I'm thinking unplugging SIM card might be "other", as I imagine that is an unusual occurrence. The software just knows something is up. All IMO.

It's under the dash.

I really want to know if the SIM card is possibly back under that blade or maybe it's easily accessible when the blade is off? I will look into that. I think the mention of the bolts near the skid steer also could be something.

Another thought I had was maybe the "other" is the blade change, but I think the skid steer would likely be off at that point and not sure it would register any data if it wasn't turned on? Maybe the SIM removal does trigger something because it tries to connect but the signal is low? Not sure if a blade change would trigger a data point on the SIM.

It's under the dash.

From AA, page 123:
"On December 17, 2020, Sergeant Hysjulien and Agent Cahill interviewed Darke at the CCSO office. She said she has known Barry since October 2020 because she cleaned his neighbor's house and met him at the dumpster by chance. She denied being in a romantic or sexual relationship with Barry. Darke deleted items on her phone (one possibly being a second phone number for Barry) in front of investigators and was evasive in answering questions. Darke said she called the CBI tip line in May 2020 to report strange vehicles being in the area around Puma Path around the time Suzanne disappeared..."

I agree. This also makes me think of the missing coolers. Did he take her body out after dark, when his phone went into airplane mode, dismember her away from the home, place it in coolers, then distribute those coolers in various nearby mines?
Usually a body is dismembered to make it easier to conceal, not just to separate the parts.
So BM separates the trash. Why? Even though LE reportedly found no blood evidence in the home, BM may have gotten blood or bodily fluids on him when he was disposing of the body. His clothes could be contaminated with those fluids and with cadaverine if he was in contact with the body several hours after her death. To me this also shows guilt because if it was merely dna cells that were on the items that BM discarded, they could be easily explained because they were husband and wife. BM knew those items contained evidence.
Also, LE reported that BM’s truck was filthy inside when he returned home on Sunday evening. Why was it filthy if, as BM reported, he was merely cleaning his truck during all those trash dumps?

I have come around to that thinking as well, that the trash runs were all a show, or at least some of them. I think he knew cameras would pick him at the trash cans/dumpsters and would invoke the memory of what Fotis Dulos did. If everyone thought that he disposed of her in that way, there wouldn't be that much time/effort in looking on or close to their property. At least that is what I think his thought process may have been. Remember, he took his phone out of airplane mode near Buena Vista, before any of the trash runs. I think he wanted to be seen doing these things.

My guess is if they had found anything incriminating about SD she would have been charged. Hopefully they found more on BM.

THIS^^^^

From MB interview, Pages 11 and 12 of the AA; respectfully bolded by me:

MB described years of Suzanne being a submissive housewife to Barry in Indiana, allowing him to control their finances and Suzanne's longtime suspicions about Barry having affairs. MB said Suzanne loved Barry and wanted to be a good wife and mother to her two girls. MB thought the primary reason for the move to Colorado was Barry's long-term desire to move there for hunting. She thought Suzanne "threw caution to the wind" and moved in an attempt to save their marriage and start over.

If MW was the last of his trash dumps, outside of what he was accumulating at the hotel, perhaps MW was all about removing whatever he probably lined his truck with.

Thanks for clarifying @crhedBngr.

Cal/Amp specifically states that they utilize cellular technology to monitor and provide data. IMO, that statement tells me that the service provider may factor into the answer to OP's question.

From the AA, we know that BM was using VerizonConnect service.

Also, Bobcat did an upgrade in 2019 when it launched Machine IQ Wireless so the information available today for reference may not be applicable to BM's 2018 OEM asset tracker device by Cal/Amp.

In the tech world where obsoletion seems to happen overnight, we should probably consider Verizon's own migration to a different technology where the old (CDMA) does not require a SIM and the new (GSM) should require a SIM, and where removing the SIM card from the device would probably disable the GPS service.

A few years ago when I had Verizon service where they used CDMA, there was no (removable) SIM required for service. According to Colorado's KKTV Verizon is still migrating from CDMA, making a move to 5G, but not ending service/support for CDMA until December 31, 2022.

By converting to GSM (Global System for Mobile), Verizon service should require a SIM for service. However, if the 2018 OEM Cal/Amp device is married to Verizon, there's always the chance that the hardware is still using CDMA where the tracker might work without the SIM. If BM upgraded his hardware after 2018 and confirmed the new device also migrated to GSM Verizon, then IMO, removing the SIM would probably disable the tracker.

From VerizonConnect's site:

What is a GPS tracker?

A GPS tracker, or black box, is a small piece of hardware, sometimes smaller than a cellphone. It typically includes a slot for a SIM card and a plug, normally OBD-II, to connect it to a vehicle.

A GPS tracker receives a GPS signal and sends location information, along with other vehicle data, back to a fleet management system via cellular 3G, 4G LTE, CDMA or satellite networks. Using your vehicle tracking system, you can then monitor your fleet in near real time.

OEM (factory-fitted) devices
These devices can be installed as standard or as an optional extra by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in new vehicles (organized by the dealer). Verizon Connect offers OEM solutions for Ford, GM, Hino, John Deere, Mack, Ram and Volvo trucks and equipment.

Aftermarket GPS devices
Normally installed by a technician, hard-wired vehicle GPS trackers are connected to a vehicle’s wiring harness in a hidden location to reduce tampering. Aftermarket devices are preferred when adding features like power takeoff (PTO) monitoring, driver monitoring and fleet dashcams to your GPS fleet tracking solution.

How does the server identify each different GPS tracker?
Each GPS tracking device has a unique code, known as an International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. This code allows the GPS tracking software to match the GPS tracker in the tracked vehicle to the moving marker you see on the screen.

https://www.verizonconnect.com/features/gps-tracking-devices/

ETA:

I also did some experimenting with an activated GSM SIM and based on my results, I don't believe that BM could switch his bobcat SIM card even with another bobcat.

Since the primary purpose of Bobcat's Cal/Amp device is Asset tracker/theft protection, I believe BM's OEM Cal/Amp device is locked and would reject another SIM with a warning that the SIM is not provisioned. It follows that the device IMEI number is paired with the SIM, and changing the SIM would most likely require 3rd party intervention from Verizon. JMO

Telematics and Tracking Devices

Excellent.

Thanks so much.

I agree. I absolutely do not believe that BM was faithful to SM. My thought is that maybe LE is using semantics. They said they did not find evidence that he was having an affair but they never said he wasn’t having hookups. LE may later explain this by saying they equate the term affair with a long term relationship.
Totally agree @OldCop there is something going on IMO
Hopefully they cast a wide net and do not limit their search to strictly female affairs/paramours
This guy goes to a lot of trouble to hide something that he does or participates in, that I suspect he feels is not something that would enhance the manly image he tries to project.
It’s been knawing at me from the beginning -
Who puts their phone on airplane mode and disappears for days. Especially a husband and father ?
Why did his nephew refer to BM only as the husband initially and why did BM not come forward in front of any cameras initially but make that damning fake “Oh Suzanne, if anyone can hear me?” ransom appeal to only the facebook audience?
What else is he hiding ?

This might be true.
OR
BM is so vain and so sure of himself, that he thought that LE would never question his story of leaving SM in bed sleeping and traveling to Broomfield for his important Mother’s Day job. They would surely not ever consider him a suspect. I’m sure he gleefully provided LE with the hotel info, telling them to check, and they would confirm that he was indeed registered there. LE might even review the checkin video. No need to look further. That would be it. This was why the trash dumps were sloppy.
Except
The whole bike ride story seemed shady right from the beginning. The bike looked like it was planted. BM’s demeanor was all off when he arrived home. When SM wasn’t found in the area, injured from a fall, LE needed to look at BM and his alibi a lot more closely. LE decided to see what else BM was up to in Broomfield.

Thanks for that. I thought I remembered correctly about the blade being kept by DSI.

I'm not certain I go along with BM having an "older blade" available, but you do have a point about time is money. So it's possible...It's definitely something to keep in mind!
After seeing pictures of what the inside of the garage looked like, he appears to be a hoarder. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he had another used blade or a few.

What always puzzles me is the trash dumps. He successfully hid the body so far. Why didn’t he put the rest of the stuff he had to get rid of in the same place? I don't think you'd want it a forgone conclusion that you committed the crime if the body is ever found. If he disposed of that stuff with the body he knows he's 100% screwed.

I proposed yesterday that BM may have used MM2's RR (that he knew with complete certainty didn't have telematics) to dump the body. Now, if he did that, he couldn't take her truck on to Broomfield without giving his game away. If he had to go back to PP, unhitch the trailer, change to tow hitch back over to his truck and stage the bike all before sunrise he may not have had time to do his dumpster drops prior to Broomfield. BM admitted to dropping tranq material so I don't believe it was simply a red herring.

Although I do wonder if someone didn't come behind him at the dumpsters to move the evidence to a different site. He seems to have a lot of friends who like dumpsters.
