I just thought of something. Did anyone ever find a bunch of chipmunk carcasses when they were searching the house for Suzanne in the days after she was reported missing? If he's running around killing chipmunks that day, where are all these chipmunks at? He's such a good shot and all so I'd think they were laying all around?

PS Grusing was amazing with Barry. He let him talk himself into many holes.
Perhaps he grilled them

I hope JL eventually filled in all the blanks. Seems pretty obvious his "weather looks nice" was code -- but we don't know if it was neutral, testing the waters, or an invitation or a compliment on her selfie. It's a double tragedy he didn't come forward immediately and, took his lumps, and let LE know about the affair, know what he knew about their marriage and know how every minute of that weekend transpired. He could've laid out a pretty solid timeline and pinpointed when she really went "missing". They could've locked down Barry's Saturday a whole lot faster. Only one man murdered but IMO two betrayed her.

Suzanne should've been able to live long enough to outgrow them both and build a beautiful life for herself, just as she was starting to do.

To be fair, he may have said a lot more during his interview, that we would have heard at trial. (I’m trying to be generous to him).

BM also made sure that SM's phone disappeared. Her phone might have provided key evidence about what transpired immediately before SM disappeared and BM seemed particularly interested in whether LE ever found it.
I’ve always wondered about JLs phone. I know it was replaced, but if he kept the same number, those WA messages could have been recovered (unless he deleted them upon hearing that Suzanne was ‘missing’.

I agree, this is how I see it. However, I think she was recording something rather than being on WA. If she had been in WA with JL, JL would have known what had happened. it makes him look worse (in my eyes), especially with the media hype around Suzanne being ‘missing’.
I personally don't judge Suzanne and JL for their affair, but I do judge the heck out of JL for not coming forward when he learned Suzanne was missing. He could have saved so much time and maybe even some evidence if he'd have been forthright with LE from the start. Coward move on his part IMO.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly, but was lambasted for saying so. Things could have been so different if JL had stepped up immediately.

He knew SM and BM from high school. I believe he was interested in her then and given he possibly already been told back then what would happen to him if he pursued SM.

That makes him even more of a coward doesn’t it? Afraid of BM but willing to sleep
with his wife and afraid to come forward when Suzanne was missing.

JL and Suzanne weren't in HS anymore. They engaged in an affair as consenting adults and IMO, he had an obligation as a decent human being to disclose any facts that might have helped LE in their investigation once he knew she was missing. Suzanne had told him of BM's past temper and threats. Yet he set back and did nothing for months, and only did so then when LE identified him as the spy pen guy.

Maybe LE still could have recovered evidence from the landfill(s) where he dumped all that stuff on his 5 garbage runs had they known of the affair right away? I'm sure he was scared, embarrassed and worried about losing his family, but Suzanne lost her life for wanting to be with him. Not a man of honor IMO, but each of us react differently to moral dilemmas.

Pfft, wanted to save his own skin. What a catch!
ETA and, removed all trace of her from his life.

This article doesn’t mention SM . We do know that El Paso County coroner will be determining her cause and manner of death.
I’m guessing it’s going to be a lot longer wait before we hear anything.

“If you are elected coroner, and someone dies that requires an autopsy, that coroner can't perform that autopsy. That's the practice of medicine. And so, they require a forensic pathologist, also known as a medical examiner. That person is a physician who's specially trained in forensic sciences as well as doing autopsies, who has the appropriate training and the skills to essentially figure out the how and the why people die in much of the country," said Kelly. “Legislators have decided throughout time that the person in charge of investigating deaths and figuring out how and why people die should be a medical examiner, should be a physician. Colorado is one of the few states that hasn't transitioned to that system, still has the old elected coroner system, and more importantly, has not made any attempt to — really, since the beginning of the state — to update or modernize the requirements for the person who is in charge of investigating those deaths.”

Kelly said the current system to elect coroners in Colorado, without any medical qualifications, is antiquated and outdated. At the same time, he said there are not enough medical examiners to provide the necessary care for the entire country given the number of deaths that occur.

[…]
The El Paso County Coroner's Office performs autopsies for 22 surrounding counties in addition to El Paso County. Kelly said that means they are essentially responsible for performing autopsies for one third of the state.

Kelly will not be seeking a third term as coroner in 2026.

“This job, it's all-consuming. It's 24 hours a day, 365 days a year," he said. “It's a hamster wheel of tragedy and chaos and then conflict. It's meaningful, and it's important, but it takes its toll on you over time... We have certainly been tested here over the last year in this office.”

[…]
"Currently, we have probably half the number of forensic pathologists that we really need in this country. And it's a difficult job to do, and it's hard to get young doctors to go into it. But there's one thing we know: great teachers and great professors and great mentors tend to drive kids, young doctors into the fields that they practice," said Kelly. “So that would be my dream from this point forward is to create as many forensic pathologists as I can, because they're desperately needed and the work that they do is incredibly important.”

I'm hoping since they have a good suspect in mind and considered Suzanne's death a homicide, they will be fast tracking her autopsy. At least I hope so, I would hate it if BM slipped off somewhere in the meantime.

Do we know if BM or the girls have made a statement since her remains were found and identified? You'd think they'd be screaming Hallelujah from the mountain top.

MOO

The Morphews made a statement through their attorney which seems apropos given the situation. My guess is there is great pressure on the few medical examiners to identify a cause of death if I read between the lines. This is good I think to pressure for a determination other than "unknown" but would be pressureful for those on the medial side of things.

[According to a motion of dismissal document obtained by FOX31, Morphew sued FBI Special Agents Jonathan Grusing and Kenneth Harris. Morphew is seeking damages from the agents’ personal assets through the U.S. Supreme Court case Bivens v. Six Unknown
Named Agents.
...
The document claims that Grusing and Harris are immune from personal liability because “Morphew fails to plead nonconclusory facts showing that they violated any clearly established constitutional right.”
...
According to the dismissal document, Morphew filed a lawsuit and asserted the following claims against Grusing and Harris:

  • Count 1: Malicious prosecution and unlawful detention
  • Count 2: Fabrication of evidence
  • Count 3: Franks claim
  • Count 4: Conspiracy
  • Count 6: Failure to intervene
  • Count 7: Reckless investigation]
