This is the reality of the 302 from my work history. In the majority of cases, once the mentally ill patient is in the psych unit, the staff (or their attorney if they have done something illegal) will convince the patient to STAY in the hospital (voluntarily commit themselves) after the 72 hours court order.

STAMFORD -- The father of the 20-year-old man who allegedly massacred 20 young children and six adults including his mother, lives in the Westover section of the city.
Stamford police were called to the Bartina Lane home of Peter Lanza and his wife hours after the Newtown elementary school shooting by State Police to conduct a welfare check.
The suspect has been preliminarily identified as 20-year-old Adam Lanza. Lanza grew up in Newtown with his parents Nancy and Peter before they filed for divorce in 2008.
Adam Lanza was killed in the shooting.
Police remained at the Bartina Lane home for at least 30 minutes and declined to comment on the reason for their presence.
Peter Lanza, a vice president of taxes for GE Energy Financial Services, arrived home minutes after police left and politely asked a Hearst Connecticut Media Group reporter: "Is there something I can do for you?" after rolling down the window of his blue Mini Cooper.
When he was told his address had been linked to the Newtown school shooting, Lanza took the news as a blow -- his face turning from patient to surprised and horrified. He promptly rolled up the window of his car, declined to comment, and pulled his vehicle into the right door of the two-car garage, before closing it behind him.
Moments later he could be seen sitting at a table in the front of the house, talking on the phone.
Lanza has worked as a tax specialist in the financial industry and has served as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University in Boston since 1995 and has taught classes on tax partnerships at Fairfield University.
According to a neighbor, Lanza and his wife were married fairly recently. While his wife has lived in the neighborhood for at least a decade, Lanza only moved in a few years ago, at about the time they got married.

Long-acting antipsychotic injections would have been useful in Gabby's shooter.
While thinking coherently, he would have been more likely to continue receiving his monthly injection.

I've beenn saying for awhile now they need something like "norplant" for anti-psychotics.

Special thanks, Pensfan.

She's 53 and divorced. Her name is the sole one on the title to the home, when looked it up earlier. Maybe she got it in the divorce?

I read she was a counselor...and the father was an accountant. A school counselor and maybe had her practice at her home as well? The father could have good investment skills and a tax break if she had her business at home as well. IMO A school counselor would probably bring more home than a teacher as well.

I'm really flabbergasted at the conflicting reports.

Adam not Ryan.
Father decease not deceased.
Mother found in house vs school.
2 first grade class rooms vs Admin office and classroom
Someone found in woods behind school. ?
Brother found dead in NJ. ?
Male found in house in Newtown ?
Girlfriend of Ryan missing. Girlfriend of Adam missing. ?

This is unbelievable!!! Almost every post from the MSM is telling something different. Just atrocious, imo.

I am still numb. We are all shocked, saddened and just plain heartbroken. This is a tragedy. On that we can agree. Can we not all just absorb the days events and mourn together as the community of caring, passionate people we are before we debate gun control, mental illness or syndroms, disorders, etc.?

Could we just comfort one another before we all throw the gloves off and get political? Just for this evening. Pretty please?

CNN Reporting Live:

CNN is stating that Adam L, 20 yo, younger brother of Ryan L (who will be released), is the shooter.

Father is not a suspect either. He has been questioned, but is not considered a suspect in any way.

He is divorced and remarried and lives in same area that shooting occurred.

Mother, Nancy L, found dead here in Newton, CT.

2 roommates of Ryan's were taken into custody, but they are NOT considered suspects either.

What a heartbreaking narrative.

Wow.

Just wow.

CNN just reported that one of the suspect's brothers was found dead in Hoboken.

The suspects brother, Ryan, is dead??? I thought he was in for questioning?? if its not Ryan, who was found dead?

There were over 3,000 guests here earlier and I share your sentiments about Websleuths. When the news broke early this morning about a school shooting, I immediately came here and have not left since. So, like you, I ask all our guests to join us here. It really is easier when you can discuss these kinds of events and it really is theraputic (sp?).

YES :blushing:

Permission to bump this every page or so?

For the dozens of innocent victims who simply showed up for school and work, an evening of collective WS grief seems appropriate.

Maybe there are other brothers...?

I feel like most of the news we are hearing is not adding up. Hopefully some press conferences will take place once things get better sorted out.

Heartbreaking! He Mr. Lanza sounds like an honest, hard working man! I will pray for him tonight also.

Omg has the world gone crazy??? Now 22 children were stabbed at school in China, God help us.

Newtown is very close to where my mother and my family grew up...horrifying. I've been fighting tears all day - the poor parents of these children, and the families of these teachers...what a horrible horrible day.
