Oh my g-d :furious: that made me start to cry all over again. Not having the key to lock the door??

I don't see how that would be within fire code, having to lock/unlock the door with a key from the inside. I think this is another made up story. I would think the door could be locked with a key on the outside and would have one of those flip type locks on the inside. I just don't believe that story.

ETA: I haven't read the original article that stated the sub didn't have a key, but it sure sounds fishy to me.

I wonder why no one was allowed in the house?
Because she knew AL was over the edge???
Huge house!
Maybe she had no cleaning lady?
but no friends in?
Was she becoming more recluse also?
She posted that she was traveling all over the planet. Her friends said she went out drinking in a bar 2-3 nights per week (after she picked up those 2 salads of course). It doesn't sound like she was becoming a recluse, but rather that she was trying to hide something unpleasant or embarrassing inside her house. Maybe she was trying to protect people by not letting them inside her home?

Maybe AL would become upset by people coming into the house. That is my take on it. Also, she may have gone around to the side door when someone came to the front door to keep him from knowing anyone was there. She probably did everything possible to keep from upsetting him.

Ya mean she walked on eggshells...

This is craziness and completely unacceptable. There is no real way to lockdown a school, since there is likely to be a supply teacher in any school at any time. Even multiple supply teachers in a school. Horrible.

Agree and this is scary.

My first thought is we may have to have a lock down divice that is automatic. I hate to say this but kind of like prisions have where they push a button and all doors in the whole school slide and lock with several locations for these buttons? Also panic buttons that alert the authorities. IDK.

I simply can't believe I'm saying the above but sadly I'm afraid this is becoming the world we live in at least right now. I will continue to hope in mankind tho.

according to the family plumber the home was beautiful, yet Adam lived in the basement with no windows, and obsessively played CALL OF DUTY war games..plumber says all amenities were down there in the basement for Adam..but that he found it strange that in that beautiful home that Adam chose to live and stay down in a dark, windowless basement playing CALL OF DUTY games...

hmmm...so this makes me even more puzzled about how people say she was so adamant about not letting people in the house, or even get a glimpse of the house like if she were to open the door and their possibly be able to look past her...that she wouldn't allow it...???...tho, clearly this plumber remarks about what a beautiful home it was inside...idk..seems to me that there are being stark contrasts reported about every aspect of NL and AL..and its really difficult to discern which is legitimate and which is BS...arrgghh!

How would have told Ms. Rousseau's father that his daughter did n't have a key to lock her classroom door? This doesn't sound right.

as far as being that simple..maybe it would have been..maybe not..without doubt the guy bypassed some rooms that were locked, thereby clearly this safety mechanism of their being able to lock themselves inside with a key IMO QUITE OBVIOUSLY SAVED LIVES...ROUSSEAU DIDNT HAVE THAT CHANCE ..

As far as what room he killed himself in I understand that Rousseau's was the first room that he entered where he killed everyone inside(save the little who played dead).. from there he entered Soto's room to which she told him her kids were in the gym..at that same time 6 of the 13 students she had hiding in the closet, came running out attempting to flee to which he shot all 6, along with Soto AND another teacher/aide that was also in the room..the shooter then shot himself in that classroom, to which there were still 7 students hidden in that classroom closet, unharmed...

atleast that's how I understood it..

14 students killed in Rousseau's class
+6 students killed in Soto's class
----------------------------------
20 students that died

Thanks for the info on which room he went to first I thought it was the other way around. The details have been in flux since the beginning.

I do know that the teacher that hide with her class in the bathroom was in the first room (she kept saying she thought they were going to die because they were in the first room the shooter would come to) and that
there were 6 kids that ran past the shooter in Miss Soto's room (I'm only sure of that because I saw the interview with one of the boy's parents.) along with the 7 hidden in the closet.

Thanks for the break down of the 2 classes.

Then the teacher should be able to open the door with the key from the outside.
Just "one-way" locks. Where you need a key from the outside (and some I've had you can either lock it back or leave it unlocked) but from the inside it is always unlocked. You can get out - but you can't get in. Does that make sense? Due to fire code anymore - most all doors in schools around here are this way. And these doors are metal with small, long rectangular windows that have lathing (like chicken wire) encased in the glass. Part of your lockdown procedure is to cover that window. I always keep a big long piece of construction paper taped on the wall right next to the door - grab it and slap it on. But that was my doing - I've never been told to do that to assist in quickly covering that window.

However, the last 3 rooms I've had (and this was in 2 separate states) had nearly floor to ceiling windows on one whole wall - not a one had blinds - NOT ONE. Of those 3 rooms - one was on the second floor but still.... I had even asked the principals about if I bought the blinds would they have the custodian install them? Nope - need work orders and approvals and I couldn't buy the blinds because they might not be up to "their code". Go figure.................because I certainly can't.

While our schools are trying to do a good job - they are not safe. Here, today in Broward county - the school board had their regular meeting and school safety was discussed - for a hot minute - once the elected members realized they couldn't get a straight answer outta anyone - they gave up and will "re-address it" at a later date!!!!!
:furious: :furious:

The question was how many of our schools are single-point entry. They didn't know. Knew of some - but not all. Then it was asked how much it would cost to make a school single-point entry - and nobody knew!

:furious: :furious: :furious:

School here has not been about the children for at least the past 20 years and I don't see that changing any time soon.................

By the way he didn't shoot all six students from Ms. Soto's class. All six were able to run out of there alive.

Thanks for your post, PF. I was thinking about this earlier today and didn't know quite how to broach the subject. The house where NL and her son, Adam, lived is probably 3000+ square feet. Surely there is enough space, multiple rooms, and privacy for two adults! Why did Alex live in the basement? Did he choose to live there - away from his mother? Or, had AL been relegated to the "dungeon" by his mother? :waitasec:

Sure, if the teacher never left the room without the key.

I used to work at a place that handled large sums of cash and the keys never left our bodies. Me along with co-workers checked that we had our keys at all times. I know I would check going out the door and then a second time after the door locked behind me even tho I just checked.

Having said that I have some issues because this seems like we are imprisioning our kids and the my above method mentioned has flaws (killer could lock himself in with kids somehow). But SOMETHING and IDK what, has to be done.

Link to original article. It's about halfway down the page.

This whole breakdown at school crud...
The killer would shut down and they had to call mama..

16 years ago there was a little girl in my daughters Kindergarten class that did the same.
I just don't get why no one ever called him out on it.
In my kids high school that would never fly.

Based on what we have heard about him, our school system would have not let him attend the high school with those problems anyway. or expelled him.

Yes in elementary school they had some kids like that.
To be quite honest, the elementary school had some special needs kids that were
well over high school age... but the mental function was not..

I just think he had them buggard!

Thanks for sharing your information.

For those windows: Lowes has paper blinds (pleated style) that have sticky tape at the top. You can cut them to any size with a regular pair of scissors.

BBM...........Oh my that's it, she knew what he was capable of but
thought she could handle him!

I thought 6 or 7 remained where she had hid them and survived, and 6 other kids got frightened and ran out of their hiding place and didn't survive....

SMOOTHE---- Freinds of AL said he was a "GOTH" type person..meaning into the dark side of life...these kids typically wear black all the time, wear dark eyeliners, wera all kinds of tatoos, piercings, etc....Now AL did'nt dress that way, but he avoided people, was into violent games, guns and who knows what else
