3 students at Brown University being tested for coronavirus

PROVIDENCE — Three students at Brown University are being tested for the coronavirus and are in isolation pending their test results, according to a letter to the campus community.

“The students have not tested positive for the virus but rather are isolated out of an abundance of caution because they traveled to a venue outside of Rhode Island where they were exposed to the virus,” the letter says.

Brown said it’s possible that these students do not have the coronavirus. Under guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health, Brown has established standard protocols for testing and/or isolation based on possible exposure to the virus or evidence of potential symptoms.

In other news, Brown postponed a planned speech by former President Bill Clinton, a spokesman for the institution said.

Clinton was scheduled to speak at the university March 19. He was slated to give the Casey Shearer lecture, named after an aspiring sports broadcaster who died in 2000 from a viral infection.

Our daughter, who works for a large corporation and flies across the country about twice each month, has told me that her company put a hold on travel last Monday March 2 for three weeks minimum. Larger meetings/gatherings have been canceled and are being done by web/video conference. We are so relieved!

While we should learn from South Korea, we should not underestimate the scale of the problem in Europe.
South Korea has reported 53 deaths so far, *in total*. Italy has reported 133 deaths yesterday *in one day*.

That’s why I asked if they were spitting into each other’s mouths over there. Geez. I don’t get it.

Disturbing photos from hospitals in Italy show coronavirus victims lying facedown while being treated by doctors in hazmat suits.

Images from a hospital in Cremona, the epicentre of the outbreak in Italy’s north, show patients lying on hospital beds, being treated by medics in hazmat suits.

Some of the patients can be seen lying facedown, which researchers said may improve their survival chances in intensive care by providing more oxygen to the blood stream.

Please don't drink your hand sanitizer.
"However, with the ban on alcohol in Iran, some have been poisoned by drinking industrial alcohol sold in the market for sanitizing purposes."

Please do be careful if anyone is making home made sanitizers. Most alcohol products are highly flammable so please stay away from any open flame or a lighter when making with any alcohol based solution.

Our healthcare institution sent out education on coronavirus, and banned all travel. But yeah, CHOP is a top children's hospital. A lot of those Philly hospitals branched to the suburbs, like where that doctor was located. That is all we need as that stuff spreading in a heavily populated area, like the big city. Once you let that genie out of the bottle, you can't send it back.

@Inthedetails This is maybe the one I saw interview on tv this evening. Not sure now.

This is a case of a young person:

A New Jersey medical worker who was the Garden State’s first coronavirus patient says every day his health is “getting worse” — and warned others to take the bug more seriously, especially since he has none of the underlying conditions that officials have warned about.

James Cai, a 32-year-old physician’s assistant, said he thinks he caught the bug while attending a medical conference last weekend at a Times Square hotel, news station WCBS reported.

“It happened so quick,” Cai told the outlet. “The virus is everything. Diarrhea, watery eyes, shortness of breath, chest pain, you name it. High fever. … Every day is getting worse.”

Cai said he first visited an urgent-care clinic, then went to the emergency room at Hackensack University Medical Center, where he’s remained since Tuesday, according to the outlet.
Yes, @zecats I agree and think these are two different people (but both young rather than old).

Thanks for looking that up.

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), President Trump's newest acting chief of staff, will self-quarantine at his home after learning that he may have come into contact with a person who later tested positive for the novel coronavirus, his office said.

"Out of an abundance of caution, Meadows received testing which came back negative," Meadows spokesperson Ben Williamson said. "While he’s experiencing zero symptoms, under doctors’ standard precautionary recommendations, he'll remain at home until the 14 day period expires this Wednesday."

Meadows is one of several GOP lawmakers that attended the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland last month to announce that they've gone under a self-quarantine.

Yes! Finally we see it being done correctly. Turning a patient face down was discussed by Dr. Sh.... early on, and in some scientific journals I've read. No steroids, face down turning.
