One future issue I see as a scary problem for the US (and other countries of course) is the potential ability for patients currently in the hospital for other reasons being cross-infected. So far I’ve seen numerous reports of this occurring - I’m just waking up so need to get my links together, but I saw one last night where it was another 50 patients infected in the hospital “who were there for other reasons”. Moo.

I saw a video, I believe it was from the UK, where a doctor/Covid-19 response medical worker was saying do NOT come to the hospital or GP, “we will come to you”.

Hospital infections from surgery was stated early. A positive case came in and infected the hospital team working on that patient in Wuhan (no link, we've discussed earlier) And yes, hospital aquired is significant from Wuhan, and perhaps others to come that aren't prepared.

As stated above just within the last hour, my virtual doc asked if I had visited Asia recently. They didn't ask China, they asked ASIA.

Thanks for the info on the bleach pills. I went to the dollar store and bought several gallons of bleach but the tablets will be much more convenient.
Like you, I always have a good supply of canned and dry goods. I also have basic first aid supplies. I live in earthquake country and never know when I will need them. My fear right now is that in the event the U.S. is hit by the virus, the availability of many items will be scant to none. Both because people will be in a panic to buy but also because of shortages due to the virus is countries that produce such goods. I already went to Costco and purchased another large bottle of Ibuprofen. I have an abundant supply of masks (which I also would need for an earthquake as I'm asthmatic and there would be a great deal of dust). I also have extra medications for my asthma. I'll refill all my prescriptions as soon as they are available for refill.
My plan is to also purchase other basic medications and also a supply of medical gloves. I'll be buying basics like cough drops, cold/flu medications, Imodium, Maalox and whatever else I think of that may not be on the shelves if and when this hits. I think the idea of having cash on hand in small bills is also very important.

I'm curious what types of things others are buying?

I look at the things that make my life good:

Coffee: Love my Nespresso Love my Whole Earth natural sweetner, love milk in my coffee. Easy to stock up on the Nespresso & sweetner. Just started using Oat Milk ( yummy) and I realized the 2 quart container I bought at Trader Joes has an outdate of MAY 19, 2020. So next week I'll stock up on a couple of those and canned milk. I also have instant milk packets in my Earthquake Preparedness kit.

Oatmeal: Re-stocking my supply of pre-cooked Steel Cut oats. Have dried fruit to add if the quarantine means no more fresh blueberries *sad*

Backpacker meals: I find them to be tasty and easy. Also have a very long update and tend to have less sodium than canned foods. And the deserts are very yummy.

Extra stock of cleaning supplies as I assume cleaning will be a big part of keeping busy in a quarantine: Clothes detergent, dish detergent, dishwasher detergent, Mr. Clean Lemon (covers the ammonia smell very well), also lots of paper towels, added plastic bags, both kitchen and garden size.

Buying more bottled water. You never know if this stuff is gonna be found in water supplies !

What is coronavirus and what should I do if I have symptoms?

What symptoms are caused by the virus from Wuhan in China, how does it spread, and should you call a doctor?

What is coronavirus and what should I do if I have symptoms?

I’m just posting this for anyone new who is joining the thread and is interested in getting information about the virus.

I’m seeing a lot of “pressure” starting to accumulate online upon WHO re: the declaration of the “P” word. There is already a lot of buzz starting on if WHO is dropping the ball.

Considering the recent events, tomorrow will be a very interesting PC. We are obviously seeing “sustained human to human transmission” and intercontinental cases.

Maybe WHO will declare a “P” tomorrow.

And if so:

Thanks for posting an airplane 2 movie video clip @margarita25 I love those films. We need a break sometimes from the horrendous news we are posting on a daily basis about this global crisis.

As to Venice shutting down, that goodness it's not during acqua alta. (For those that have never been, it is when the entire city is flooded from fall to January) as we now have learned, fecal and urine *may* be positive. Acqua alta can happen at any time though.

Glad I went 20 years ago, and is off my bucket list.

OK, now I'm gonna stock up on my own copies of my favorite old funny / stupid movies and Airplane has to be one of them?

But here's a terrifying thought:

Would Amazon Prime still deliver in a quarantine?

Note, my friend who works for Amazon is usually worked to exhaustion for an 8 hour shift, he unloads items from containers for repackaging, has had time for breaks. There are no shipments coming in from China. The last three shifts have been dead.

They may lay people off, starting next week to collect unemployment.

Two doctors die of coronavirus within 24 hours in China's Hubei province as tributes pour in for 'hero' medics

A 42-year-old man who worked at a hospital close to Wuhan has become the second doctor to die of coronavirus within 24 hours in China's Hubei province, health officials have confirmed.

Huang Wenjun, who specialised in respiratory medicine, suffered pneumonia on duty at Xiaogan Central Hospital, in Hubei, China, and died at around 7.30pm LT.

May Dr. Huang Wenjun and Dr. Xia Sisi Rest In Peace.

This is very distressing.

The female physician that died was 29 and a gastroenterology specialist

The male physician that died was 42 and a pulmonologist. That is one of the specialists you REALLY REALLY need in an outbreak of pneumonia.

I have to assume neither of these physicians smoked.

I'm so sorry to hear this disease is claiming the apparently healthy practitioners that are dearly needed

Well, if that isn't a red flag, then nothing is!!
MOO

Herat. I want to reply to the “Amazon situation”. It is deep. I can not go there atm lol. Putting that on the side to comment on later.

It must be absolutely horrendous to be dying from a condition you are a specialist in and know there is no hope of recovery or survival.
