I can't keep up with these threads but what I'm seeing happening in regards to Coronavirus is very troubling. I stocked my family up with rice and rice products earlier this week after seeing them disappearing from the shelves. My entire household is gluten free due to a severe wheat allergy and the majority of GF products I buy are made with rice flour. I also had trouble finding GF soy sauce this week. I ordered a couple of bags of brown rice flour on Amazon and immediately after I hit the order button and returned to the product listing the price went up $2. I've never seen that happen before... o_O I haven't been able to find hand sanitizer in stores for 2 weeks. I read in this thread a recipe to make it but I can't find the ingredients to make it either. I did get one of the last refill size bottles of liquid anti-bacterial soap off the shelves. I figure as we have soap and water we are good.

I'm currently trying to convince friends and family members that I'm not exaggerating when I say we are going to be stuck at home for a month in the near future due to coronavirus. They think I'm a little too obsessed right now. Can anyone give me a good "nutshell" summary of what I should say to get other people to take this seriously? Pretend your audience has no cable TV, nor broadcast of local TV, mostly ignores news sites online and hates politics so tunes out anytime they hear "Trump announced..." The NBA canceling the rest of the season and 100's of universities closing down also hasn't seemed to sink in yet. Is this the viral version of the black plague or what? I need numbers. Statistics. Facts I can present to make my case that we should self-isolate until around April or May. TIA.

(I probably wont' be able to respond to any replies with the speed this thread is moving).

Honestly, I gave up trying to talk to people about it.
My only advice is to wait till they see for themselves and they will finally come to you with serious and honest questions about what is happening.

The only thing that got my wife to finally start realizing things are changing "out there" is she had to see for herself when I asked her to try to pick up some disenfectant wipes and she saw the store shelf was totally empty of all similar products. And she was there a week before that and knew what used to be there. Once she saw for herself the impact then she and I had some good honest discussions finally.

So just heard from my sister that loudon county schools have closed doors till 3/20. Sounds like Fairfax county will soon follow.
Replying to myself to add those are in Northern Virginia. Loudon is using their non used snow days then going to online. I am in Prince William county and so far just have my girls texting me and freaking out cuz the rumor is their spring sports will all be cancelled.

  • Ahead of an address to the nation on Wednesday night, President Donald Trump is reportedly waiting on a final sign-off from his son-in-law before going with the White House coronavirus task force's recommendation.
Trump's coronavirus task force is reportedly awaiting 'research' from Jared Kushner before making an emergency declaration

Jared Kushner??????????????
To each his or her own as to what they want to live with or without.

I’m so glad I got toilet paper.

As long as the dogs have food and I have coffee, we can hang in there!

Starbucks stores may go drive-thru only

Some Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada may become drive-thru only while others could limit the number of people allowed inside..

"As a last resort, we will close a store if we feel it is in the best interest of our customers and partners, or if we are directed to do so by government authorities," Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said in a letter to customers.

Johnson emphasized that any closures will be temporary. The company said decisions will be made on a store-by-store basis.

"Having recently returned from a speaking engagement in London, U.K., the Prime Minister's wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau began exhibiting mild flu-like symptoms including a low fever late last night," says a PMO press release.

"She is self-isolating at home awaiting test results, and her symptoms have since subsided.

"The doctor's advice to the Prime Minister is to continue daily activities while self-monitoring, given he is exhibiting no symptoms himself. However, out of an abundance of caution, the Prime Minister is opting to self-isolate and work from home until receiving Sophie's results."
