Honestly, all I can think about are those families that are dysfunctional...how are abused children going to get by? How are abused spouses going to get by in a pressure cooker like this? Are shelters even going to accept entrants? God help us:(

ETA - and never forget the pets living in those homes...

My doctor sent me this link which is absolutely fascinating for anyone studying the numbers. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of Canadian data or projections, but there is some really good information using current data from the US, UK, Australia and other countries.

If you like data and epidemiology, you will find this very informative. There are lots of graphs, including information on beds/1000 people in the highest hit countries, rates of infection, areas where there will be pressure on the system, and shows the anticipated results of social distancing.

Coronavirus: Why You Must Act Now

Had to drive through downtown San Antonio today near River Walk. Dreary day, yet scads of people were walking around as if, "What virus?" Unbelievable. Spring break in TX extended - lots of families with kids. Just wanted to stop the car and scream. This is not a vacation. The extended break is to stop the spread of a disease that could scar your lungs, kill your children, or kill you.

Replying to myself - there's got to be a safe-ish way for citizens who are at lower risk to volunteer to help each other. We need to make that way. Yes, this virus is bad. But there is so much else that is bad, and evil runs rampant in the face of fear and withdrawal.

UK:

The government is set to announce that schools will be closed for a few weeks in response to the spread of coronavirus – but remain open to children of key workers, such as nurses, according to reports.

In the next stage of the government's plans for dealing with Covid-19, skeleton staff will remain in schools to provide childcare and keep public services up and running, while other pupils will have to stay away, it wasreported last night.

Schools 'to close to all but children of key workers'

In my area (SE PA), the governor closed down the State Stores (who sell liquor) as of Tuesday, which I see as the first step to close down local bars. This is going down incrementally. The casinos, malls, sports teams, college were already shut down. When they get shut down, why cannot the next level, as far as I see it? I take no opinion on the decisions, but I can see it coming. I f you can shut down the "big guys," you can shut down the little guys. I feel bad for the small businesses and their employees.

None, unless you are high risk is MOO.
Again, if you are negative, it is only for the time frame up to time of test.m some think negative is carte Blanche for the duration.....smh. Just like any other illness, we can go to bed tonight and wake with a cold or a headache. Moo no idea where one might get OJ, but I’ll go with it....
What is the point of getting tested? If I have the flu, why should I go get tested? Stay home, hunker down, drink OJ.

Just asking.

The city that sleeps! New York is turned into a virtual ghost town as people stay indoors and off the subway, away from the city's restaurants and bars with many closing for weeks as thousands of staff are laid off as the coronavirus takes hold

It is hard to believe what is happening. A little less than three months ago we celebrated Christmas and New Year and now we are terrified of catching a virus.

I agree with what will students do if no school. Being social people, they will still get together. Again, why take exception on restaurants? Or why allow carry out, but not dine in? Do they not trust patrons, but trust restaurant staff? In my opinion, this is a cop out, but it is hurting our small, and franchise restaurants and bars. Is it the decision to bring small businesses to their knees.

MOO

Check this article. If you scroll down to nearly the bottom there are some really good graphs explaining why social distancing immediately, and thoroughly is so critical and how much difference it makes to the outcomes. There's a good graph showing the difference between mandating social distancing on Day 1, vs Day 2, vs not at all.

It’s odd to me too. The numbers don’t match the mass hysteria and talk of forced quarantines and martial law. It’s a virus to take seriously and we all need to do our part to stop the spread, but this is sort of becoming unreal to me.

If you think this is mass hysteria, wait til later. Because some people are about to start freaking the heck out moo.

If this is social chaos and panicking (toilet paper), wait til people start running out of money and food, medicines...wait til people they know and love start dying...in China people lost their entire families. Familial transmission is very very high.

As for forced quarantining and martial law, this ain’t nothing. Get ready for lockdown and martial law. It’s the only way to attempt to contain and minimize spread. It’s going to happen IMO. Drastic situations require drastic measures. Dr. Mike and Dr. T have talked about the significance of the measures China has taken for months.
They’ve been screaming at us to learn from them. We are not.

Back to martial law, National Guard, Police, Military, I expect the full shebang.

Unfortunately it is these first responders who are going to get hit hard. I hope they have access to a lot of PPE.

Dr. Mike referenced the global strategic reserve, etc. I have posted A LOT about the USA strategic reserve, bla bla...

Doc T and Mike have talked about the success in China because of their ability to quarantine. We saw the barbaric and drastic measures China took to quarantine.

They’re seeing the decline because of the measures they took.

The ferry I WOULD have been taking to visit my family is taking precautions.
“Marine Atlantic is making changes based upon the advice of health professionals and direction from the Government of Canada.
In addition to our enhanced cleaning measures, new screening initiatives will be implemented. Effective immediately, customers who arrive at our terminals will be asked a series of questions to determine their suitability to travel.
If a passenger has been out of country in the last 14 days or had contact with someone with COVID-19 and they have COVID-19 symptoms they will not be permitted to travel.
If a passenger has been out of country in the last 14 days or had contact with someone with COVID-19 but they are not exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, they will be permitted to travel but will be required to be isolated at the terminal and while onboard the ship.
In addition, until further notice, Marine Atlantic will set a passenger limit of 250 customers per crossing. This will allow crew to more effectively establish isolation areas upon the vessel and promote social distancing as recommended by health care professionals.”

Then why are people crazy for a test? It’s only good for that moment in time,
