I've read that the virus can last 24 hours on cardboard (which presumably includes paper), 72 hours (3 days) on polyurethane plastic, other plastics, and metal. I put a bag on my hand to pull the mail out of the mail box and put the bag on the counter. I don't touch it for 2 days. I ordered new glasses and they've been sitting, case open, on the counter since Friday. I'm not ready to put them next to my eyes. I agree that we also need to be careful of surfaces such as cardboard, paper and plastic - not just sneezing people.

You're smart, otto. Is that why you're called the Verified Expert? Thanks for the ideas for being cautious. I thought I was being paranoid by not hanging my coat up in the closet for two days, but now I know I'm being rightfully cautious.

An idea some may want to adapt to their circumstances...group texting.

My congregation of about 125 is divided into smaller groups of 15-20 to keep track of each other better. This is nothing new and our group has always done group texting if there is a need to pass along important information. We won’t be gathering in person for awhile, and this morning our group text turned into a virtual gathering...sharing positive thoughts, getting better acquainted with someone new, etc. It was really fun, despite the text alerts coming fast and furious. It even led me to have a private text conversation later with a Mom stuck home with sick kids who is really worried. We are all excited about the potential to develop even closer relationships during this tough time, which will be really neat when we all come back together again.

Wow a complete Wuhan shutdown, praying for these people. It’s not going to be easy. At least ITALY let their citizens roam the streets.

How is San Francisco going to handle the homeless?

I would indeed appreciate prayers! It’s going to be very hard. On many levels.

Like @gitana1 said, it’s not yet like Wuhan here, as I’ll be able to leave to get necessary groceries and go to doctor or bank. And we can take walks alone (or with 6 feet between another person).

But we can only leave for those essential reasons. Can’t go anywhere else. There is supposedly going to be police presence somewhere, but they aren’t, as yet, going to be arresting people for breaking lockdown.

(I think our Governor has said he’s going to be trying to work out options for the homeless including an idea thrown out about using hotels but I don’t have a link for that- no idea at this point where I read that)

Also my husband just walked in to the living room so proud of himself telling me that he ordered groceries! I say great, thinking he restocked what we talked about- black beans, squash, rice, canned goods.

No...he ordered a variety of fancy Spanish salami from some specialty foods store???? He’s going to be shocked when he gets A SLICE OF SALAMI for dinner because he didn’t pick up the reasonable staples we’ve been eating for a week.

Husbands...they try, very cute.

This made me smile, which we need to do. I actually told my husband to buy some extras @2-3 weeks ago. Just enough to have on hand. He came home with a few things I hadn't told him to, and without some of the things I did, lol. One of those items I certainly didn't want was a small can of Spam..... I never liked it and I've never known him to eat it, either! But, as I told him this evening, at least we have it as a last resort

The health care workers from Nuvance Health will remain sidelined until they can obtain coronavirus tests to determine if they were infected, according to the Hartford Courant, citing Gov. Ned Lamont.”

In the White House Conference today, “surface transmission” was about to be discussed when Dr. Fauci interjected to clarify another matter.

The discussion re: “surface transmission” was never resumed. I was very eager to hear where they were going with that.

I want to know about HVAC transmission. I have yet to see adequate guidance on whether the virus survives in commercial buildings with central systems like offices, schools, airports, gyms, everywhere. I have a sneaking suspicion that they know it does, and so they have called for the shutdowns and lockdowns. I think the virus might be airborne inside buildings, but unsure, and better safe than on a ventilator.

I mentioned Spring Breakers going to Tijuana because all the bars in San Diego are closing. I hope not. Spring Breakers stay home and help people instead.

Not that I think as a country they can handle this virus, but Mexico near the border has some really decent health and dental care facilities. I got my teeth worked on over there once. The costs is quite reduced compared to the U.S., so many people do go across the border. I'm not sure about in other parts of Mexico.

MOO, their sewer system must be pitiful. The town of Imperial Beach in the U.S. keeps getting flooded with sewage that comes from Mexico when it rains. It's on the news all the time. It leaves Mexico's trash on U.S. soil, and Imperial Beach which is a lovely town has to contend with sewage ocean water. This is bad news because the virus might spread easier. I keep hoping our President Trump would care about this problem not just his wall. Anyways, I know there's lots of new proud owners of food places in Baja and Tijuana, I see on PBS weekend shows. This virus is going to hurt so many. It has to be stopped.

We have to treat this as a world war. Two world wars and people in this country pulled together. Young people matured fast and took on adult responsibilities.

We need that now.

That seems to be how it goes. One person with the virus attends a place where there are a lot of people. That person seems asymptomatic, but may have a bit of a sore throat - managed by cold medication. That person is contagious without knowing it, just like China, and the virus is highly contagious. It spreads to many people, some get sick, they spread it before they realize they are sick ...

Self-isolation is containment, most places have lost control of containment.

I talked to my geneticist today. She stated it’s not airborne except in things like coughing/sneezing.

Nope, not the only one. I’ve been astounded at how badly the coordination has been.

I think the phone calls and conference calls with all the governors were very helpful, and we do know many of the governors individually have and are talking to the President as often as they need to. Governors and state legislators run their states and this situation is wholly unprecedented. Governors have and are getting federal approvals in record time to cut through red tape where it's needed.
I wouldn't change our federal republic system for anything. No one is going to be perfect and where things need ironing out, they have been and will be. That's MOO, and always subject to change
As just one example, look how the states of NY, CT and NJ conferenced together over the weekend and instituted the same policies together- quite remarkable. A state like Idaho, might need a different approach, as it's population density is far, far less than that of the tri-state area. Airports and national borders are a different animal.

You're making me LMAO. As soon as I was prepped for home isolation to stay well, a plumbing fixture broke. I can fix it, but I needed parts. I ordered online to avoid going to a store... and like you, I let that cardboard box "cool" for 2 days before opening. Perfectly normal behavior.

“If I can test those nurses, I can potentially get them back into the game a lot sooner,” Lamont said Monday night.

“We’ve got a surge in use, demand is going up and I’m losing nurses by the day who have to furlough themselves for a period of time. That’s a priority for testing for me.”
