How can this be? It's Saturday and the day's merely half over.

I didn't understand the #'s at first either. Apparently each State does it's figures on a 24 Hour basis, and the 24 Hr period usually ends every morning. So for States like FL or AZ, who have already reported today, any New #'s at the moment are going towards the figure that will be released Sunday morning.

In comparison, Worldometers has a 24 Hr period that goes from approx. 9 PM EST through 9 PM EST.

this guy's a real piece of work:

Walters suggested that those he has recently come into contact with should monitor their symptoms. However, he is refusing to cooperate with Maryland contact tracers by providing any personal information that could help them contain the virus.

"I will not share anybody's information with the government. I will not do it," Walters reportedly said.

In a video posted Friday, he said he was attempting to open his own church and blamed "Satan" for his contracting the virus, while insisting that COVID-19 had never been spread during the anti-lockdown rallies.

About 45% of COVID-19 deaths in the US were from the 45 counties within 100 miles of NYC, despite those counties having only about 10% of the US population.

More than half (about 55%) of COVID-19 deaths in the US were from the 175 counties within 250 miles of NYC, despite those counties having less than 20% of the US population.

The combined COVID-19 death rate in the 45 counties within 100 miles of NYC (which are home to about 10% of the US population) was about 1,700 deaths per 1 million people—a rate far worse than any single country in the world: Coronavirus Update (Live): 10,000,578 Cases and 498,954 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer

The combined COVID-19 death rate in the 1,436 counties more than 250 miles from NYC (which are home to about 80 % of the US population and include all of the counties in states that didn’t lockdown, didn’t issue stay at home orders, didn’t limit religious gatherings, and reopened in April) was about 219 deaths per 1 million people—interestingly that’s about the same as the rates for Canada and Mexico.

Before he opens his church-and his mouth-, maybe he should read the bible:

Matthew 22:21 Jesus said "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." Romans 13:1 "Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities.

I don’t know any snowbirds, I didn’t realize their homes were not winterized! Yikes! I’m familiar with vacation homes in other states but those are not six months here/six months there situation.

We are snowbirds: we usually go to Florida in November. I am wondering if there is a 2nd wave, when and if that hits, if we will want to travel to Florida in November. A lot depends on if Florida gets itself under control and right now they are way out of control,( as we apparently remain in this dreadful first wave). A lot can happen between now and mid-November. I think snowbirds are going to have to monitor the situation and do what makes sense.

I hope you can travel safely back in November!

It takes longer to get to rural areas and towns that are away from the large densely populated cities with sea and air ports, but eventually CoVid will reach them too. It's just a matter of time. Those with good protocols in place now will fare better than those who mistakenly believe that they are shielded.

This is far from over.

It is now suggested by churches during Zoom masses:

About the masks issue: It might be a good idea for stores to take a slightly different approach. For instance, those who wear a mask get a 10% discount. More shoppers would wear masks, especially those who just don't like to bother. Of course, those who are against masks on principle would just have to pay more, which could go into a special fund to pay for their upcoming bouts of illness. MOO
Thank you for posting this idea. Have you thought about offering this suggestion to the businesses you frequent?

Coronavirus: No new COVID-19 deaths reported in Scotland for second day running

Scotland has reported no new deaths of people who had tested positive for coronavirus for the second day in a row.

It comes after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon declared Scotland was working towards "total elimination" of COVID-19, having noted that Friday's low figures were significant because it was a weekday rather than a weekend.

Weekend figures are often low because of a delay in reporting, but Saturday's update still makes for positive reading.

Official figures stated there were only 15 new cases of coronavirus in Scotland, which took the total number of positive tests in the country to 18,228.

Of those who have tested positive in Scotland, 4,045 have been discharged from hospital since 5 March.

There are currently 456 people in Scottish hospitals with confirmed COVID-19, five of whom are in intensive care, while 11 are in intensive care with suspected coronavirus.

To people shaming 1 girl for spreading coronavirus around Chappaqua, you’re wrong. People weren’t social distancing OR wearing masks. She may have brought it, but to blame it on her while you allow it to transmit It’s not right. The source doesn’t matter as much as the flow,” the person tweeted, Patch reported.

“The infected student also participated in a non-school related “Field Night” event the same day along with juniors and seniors and students from surrounding school districts, Cuomo said.”

Okay, if the source doesn’t matter as much as the flow - then shame the ones who organized all of the parties, field nights, etc.

If not sanctioned by all the various schools - then who was in charge and paid for it?
Parents?

Nevada sees another record daily rise in reported coronavirus cases

The number of additional cases reported Saturday more than doubled the previous record of 507 additional cases reported Thursday.

Gov. Steve Sisolak mandated for people to wear face coverings in public places effective Thursday.

Sisolak said the requirement was an attempt to stem an increase of coronavirus cases that has hit the state as casinos, restaurants and other businesses began reopening.

Funny you would say that. The other day I wiped down my office with these new Sani-cloth wipes, then put on some hand sanitizer. The smell, I think I was high for a few minutes!

"Why is Mickey obsessively cleaning her office and using hand sanitizer?"
If the Santi-Cloth wipes are hospital grade, you might need to wear gloves to use.

We are normally just so mobile between our two countries...Canada and the USA. This border closure is a real shock and will have many wondering about the future of their summer or winter homes in each other’s countries. Our next door summer neighbours ( B.C. Canada) are not here from Texas; unable to get through the border. Our friends and neighbours down the beach have a veterinarian son is Washington State they haven’t seen.....other friends here have their three young adult kids ....two in Portland and one in South California.....and on and on it goes. At least half of our tiny town leaves for either California,Arizona or Mexico for the winter, many owning houses, condos or mobile homes in those areas. It will be a very different fall and winter if this virus isn’t brought under control and even if it is I suspect a large fear factor will remain over a possible sudden resurgence. We were fortunate.....we almost booked to fly to New York for a week this spring and to then board a cruise ship down the east coast to South America, through the Panama Canal and up the west coast to Los Angeles before flying home. It sounded wonderful, but we hedged when we were quoted a price for medical insurance coverage thinking we might find a better deal. It turned out to be a fortuitous delay as Covid broke out. I suspect at our age future travel is now over.

That reporter posted this on his Twitter so he could have caught that anytime in the last 14 days based on this from your link.

"Friends, I tested positive for #COVID19. I'm pretty surprised. I have zero symptoms (so far) and I feel fine. In fact, I ran 5 miles this morning. I spent the last few hours calling people I know I've been in contact with in the last 14 days. Be safe out there," he wrote on Twitter.

"I can't say definitively that I got it at the rally," Monies told The Associated Press. "But it's someone I've been in contact with in the last two weeks."
