We did really well at the beginning, but things are going to hell in SC.

Gov. McMaster declares new state of emergency, S.C. surpasses 30,000 COVID-19 cases

"Duwve also said South Carolina was making "national and international headlines" for its skyrocketing coronavirus cases. Six U.S. states – including New York, once the country's coronavirus epicenter – are requiring travelers who visited South Carolina to quarantine for two weeks."

So they now don’t want to go where there is a rise in cases, they just want to contribute to the rise by having infected people in a state with rising numbers... Oklahoma?

On another note, I’ve got an idea for a new app after doing my two weeks of grocery shopping yesterday. I had been using Shipt since March until this past few weeks. Will return or try this tactic.

Backstory- I live in a republican state with surging numbers. Way too many people here just won’t wear a mask. Wouldn’t even give me my 6’ of space at checkout yesterday without me “asking” for it.

My idea- create a recording of sniffling and coughing and play on a continual loop on phone while shopping to “create” social distance. What do you think? Call it the spacemaker cough generator?

If you add an aerosol plume - you would the hit of the supermarket.

Maybe folks that have never been in a casino in their lives can sit home and ruin that for the rest of us, as well.
I don't get it. How are we people at home ruining casinos? It's my understanding that casinos opened a couple of weeks ago...? As far as I know, no one is preventing anyone going to casinos if they want to.

I've been grocery shopping at 7:15 am once a week. I am thinking of moving to 6:15 am this week. Because I don't know if people are getting worse about adhering to distance and mask wearing or I am just getting more irritable about infractions.

Being outside and having almost everyone wear a mask seems to be low risk so far. No cities that have had large outdoor protests have seen any kind of spike related to them.
Except for the part that no one is really wearing masks here and most of our current spike is coming from young people at the beaches. Which are outside. And the part where DHEC is recommending covid testing for anyone who has been at the beach recently.

Maybe soon you can come and see me! I'm due east, just 3876 kms from you.

Alberta still has travel restrictions, but it looks like you may have clear sailing through Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Ontario is accepting visitors from across the country, but due to our shameful Covid numbers, we've got no takers. :/

Quebec, well no one knows what's going on in Quebec because Quebec's new minister of health figured reporting once a week would be fine. Sheesh! Following a near universal cry of "WTH!", he will resume reports on Monday. Expect a whopping surge in reported cases as they catch up.

Can I go to another province? The latest coronavirus travel restrictions, by region

We might just come and visit you! Lol. We figure we will be exploring our own province and country. B.C is not throwing out visitors from other provinces but we and Alberta are under “ travel in your own province” requests...not orders.

About the masks issue: It might be a good idea for stores to take a slightly different approach. For instance, those who wear a mask get a 10% discount. More shoppers would wear masks, especially those who just don't like to bother. Of course, those who are against masks on principle would just have to pay more, which could go into a special fund to pay for their upcoming bouts of illness. MOO

What a great idea, BUT imagine the uproar.

American Academy of Pediatrics—an organization of 67,000 pediatricians—had now weighed in on the upcoming school year.

https://services.aap.org/en/pages/2...ons-return-to-in-person-education-in-schools/

Short version — get kids back in school.

Longer version (bold emphasis is from the original AAP document):

[T]he AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school. The importance of inperson learning is well-documented, and there is already evidence of the negative impacts on children because of school closures in the spring of 2020. Lengthy time away from school and associated interruption of supportive services often results in social isolation, making it difficult for schools to identify and address important learning deficits as well as child and adolescent physical or sexual abuse, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation. This, in turn, places children and adolescents at considerable risk of morbidity and, in some cases, mortality. Beyond the educational impact and social impact of school closures, there has been substantial impact on food security and physical activity for children and families.

Policy makers must also consider the mounting evidence regarding COVID-19 in children and adolescents, including the role they may play in transmission of the infection. SARS-CoV-2 appears to behave differently in children and adolescents than other common respiratory viruses, such as influenza, on which much of the current guidance regarding school closures is based. Although children and adolescents play a major role in amplifying influenza outbreaks, to date, this does not appear to be the case with SARS-CoV-2. Although many questions remain, the preponderance of evidence indicates that children and adolescents are less likely to be symptomatic and less likely to have severe disease resulting from SARS-CoV-2 infection. In addition, children may be less likely to become infected and to spread infection. Policies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within schools must be balanced with the known harms to children, adolescents, families, and the community by keeping children at home.

Finally, policy makers should acknowledge that COVID-19 policies are intended to mitigate, not eliminate, risk.”

“Universal face coverings in middle and high schools when not able to maintain a 6-foot distance (students and adults).”

This will tick off the anti-maskers.

That reminds me,,,,our B.C. Heath Minister, Dr. Bonnie Henry has been pretty darn good and has gained quite a fan club...including shoes named after her and clothing with her picture or whatever..... She’s rather a sweetie. I think she won everyone’s heart the first day she ever came on tv and she actually shed tears while telling us that Covid had hit a seniors care home. From that moment on, I think we all felt she really cared about each of us. New York Times wrote an article on her recently ( its on the internet) and American actress Olivia Munn has asked Bonnie to take over her own Social media account to talk about how she kept our B.C. numbers low. If anyone wants to check that.

You need to get in front of your cart in the checkout. You can use it to create space. :)

I think the middle and high school kids will like it. A "cool" mask will be a new "thing" for them to use to express themselves, if they are allowed to. I've seen some pretty unique masks on some of the youngsters around here.

Vice President Pence is still going to those states to meet with the governors and health officials, and Dr. Birx will be going with him to Texas on Sunday and Arizona on Tuesday to meet with state leaders. VP Pence will go to Florida alone.

Our county requires masks inside stores. Compliance seems to be at least 95% in the stores I have visited in the last couple of weeks. I try to stay away from the few clueless individuals that are not wearing masks.

The good news is that all this social distancing has been working. Infections and hospitalization are way down from the peak here in Colorado. We have not had to use any of the three temporary medical facilities built in the state.

So here in Jeff Davis parish thermometers have become the new TP/Lysol/sanitizers. Only 1/3 of the people around here wear masks. Usually in the 65+ group. I see children running around in restaurants & loose in WM. I see people with obvious underlying issues going to restaurants & having alcohol but wearing no masks.
I cannot for the life of me imagine a no alcohol ban in Louisiana. The priests drink real wine at mass.

We went to Baton Rouge to the Apple store but they refused to help us. We were wearing masks & gloves. However younger people were allowed in. The entire Bluebonnet Mall looked like a dystopian movie-waiting on the zombies next. Hard hard hard to stay positive. At least the seafood gumbo at Acme was good & Trader Joe’s has a wonderful system in place for we who may be turned into Soylent Green.
