I don't get it. How are we people at home ruining casinos? It's my understanding that casinos opened a couple of weeks ago...? As far as I know, no one is preventing anyone going to casinos if they want to.

Because, along with the incessant tallying of new cases, some of the same folks are calling for things to shut back down. And the people that advocate shut downs tend to want to shut down things that they don't use. All of this would be way quieter if homebodies had skin in the game. But that's the nature of things - some don't care if they shut down my bar or casino, and I don't care if they shut down their church or access to elective surgery. The difference is that I'm not advocating for the latter.

Perhaps folks from FL and TX can chime in, but I haven't tripped over any bodies in the streets in AZ. I don't hear ambulances. I know people that are locked down and extremely vocal online about Covid, but that has way more to due with November than the actual virus.

From what I've seen no one in America cares if the casinos are open or not, aside from the people who actually work there. Since they are local and I am not, I will bow to their judgement in the matter.

You need to follow the links to find the Statement from the Assistant Attorney General. The sum of the comments seem to indicate the the Attorney General encourages the enforcement of equal restrictions on outside protests, which it endorses as "the best of our Nation's traditions", and indoor religious services.

Since there can be no restrictions on protests, it seems to suggest that there should be no restrictions on religious gatherings.

June 22nd

"Following action by the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, Mayor de Blasio provided much‑needed relief for New Yorkers by moving New York City to Phase 2 of its reopening plan. Under Phase 2, in addition to the opening of various secular establishments, including outdoor dining and in‑store retail, houses of worship can reopen to 25% of their indoor capacity.

Mayor de Blasio’s recent public statements and enforcement of COVID-19 Orders have demonstrated a troubling preference for certain First Amendment rights over others. The Justice Department is glad Mayor de Blasio will now permit greater religious exercise and will continue to monitor New York City’s reopening to ensure that New York City extends the same respect to the freedom of religion, both in terms of indoor and outdoor gatherings, as it does to the freedoms of speech and assembly.”

They opened up Las Vegas casinos too soon.

The casinos here in the northeast, particularly Atlantic City as well as the few in CT, NY and PA have been and still are shut down since mid-March.

Anyone watch the nightly news on NBC? they interviewed two moronic young
men on the beach in Miami- one, who was almost incoherent said something to
tne effect that he is healthy and not worried about the virus (all said with
a laugh and a smirk)

Another moron said (laughingly), that this is all political

I ask you what planet do these selfish dolts live on?

I think the state of Nevada will care because of the revenue alone. They have only recently reopened.

RSBM My idea- create a recording of sniffling and coughing and play on a continual loop on phone while shopping to “create” social distance. What do you think? Call it the spacemaker cough generator?

Just click on this while in the store! And turn up phone speaker loud as you can.

What's really sad is that it didn't have to be this way. It really didn't. Who would have ever thought the US would be dead last in pandemic response? It's embarrassing and sad.

When I feel the pain, I try to take comfort in the young people I see who are trying to take hold of the craziness. Students who have become intensely curious about immunology or the circulatory system. Or, the many young people who not only showed up to vote last Tuesday, but who thanked us for being there to supervise and sanitize, and who inquired about how they can become poll workers, too, since they know older folks won't be able to do it in November. These young people are also spreading the word about early voting and mail-in ballots so that people can perform their duties as citizens while reducing their risks. It was actually pretty touching!

The Miami Herald reports that through June 3, new cases had consistently trended upwards since mid-May, and the influx could not be attributed solely to increased testing as reported by Florida Governor DeSantis.

The governor also blamed new cases on 'overwhelmingly Hispanic laborers,' because of migrant workers forced to live and work in cramped conditions. Farm workers' associations hit back at the governor, saying he has repeatedly ignored their pleas to help the vulnerable demographic.

The governor resisted calls again on Friday to mandate masks statewide.

'We are where we are,' DeSantis said, adding that many of the new cases are in younger, healthier people who are out socializing more.

He said people can avoid spreading the virus by wearing masks, along with avoiding big crowds and not being within close quarters with lots of other people indoors.

You casinos aren't being shut down because people are complaining about them for no reasons. They are being shut down because number of infected people needing hospital care is going up rapidly, and hospitals are getting full again.
