Whenever there is a high risk of fire, we don't have fireworks in those high risk areas. In our region, it happens about every 5 yrs or so.
If it is a drought year with a burn ban - no fireworks. Happens every few years. The other years there is usually a hurricane or tropical storm. They seem to like holiday weekends.

Trump's Mt. Rushmore 4th of July Event Will Have No Social Distancing

This is what a coronavirus spread looks like in its preliminary stages ... chairs crammed into the same area together, inches apart for the folks who will be celebrating tonight.

The site is Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota, where the Governor has proudly proclaimed there will be NO social distancing and optional masks at tonight's event with President Trump.
I hope this is ok to ask you all.......No matter what you think of this event or what side of the fence you are on I have to ask. Is Trump not afraid of catching this? (I assumed he was a germaphobe? MOO) Do you think he already had it mildly and is not afraid? From a personal health standpoint, why is he taking such risks with is own health?

I found a link on YouTube if anyone wants to live stream on a smart TV:

He has to get there first. They did shut down a road into the venue last night - perhaps he won't take the road that has been proposed as his route (people turned out to see him - and to protest the taking of the land of course).

For live coverage outside the event. LE has been sharing bottles of water among themselves (!) and fewer masks than earlier.

Nope. I typed out a long reply, but deleted it. I'm making a serious effort not to get banned today.

omg.

Stop this madness! Freaking insane.

This is soo unfair to everyone. :(

Unfair behaviour is one of my pet peeves.

And putting a beautiful countryside under threat of wildfire is another of my pet peeves.

We are still recovering from the worst bushfires ever - 6 long months of fighting spreading fires, 34 people died, an estimated billion animals died, 2500 homes lost, 3000 other buildings lost, 72,000 sq miles of land burned up.
And those numbers are only not-worse due to the valiant efforts of the firefighters from here and those who came here to assist us.

The sheer ignorance of having a national firework display in this area is screaming loudly at me.

I sincerely hope that it all works out for the environment.

(Sorry, didn't intend to go off topic, but if you had ever felt the terror of encroaching fires and the possible extinction of some of our precious wildlife - koalas - you would know what is so upsetting about this to me.)

I wasn't allowed in on May 29th when my husband had a heart attack. Thankfully our grown Children both work at the Hospital so they were allowed to see him when working. It was hard. He is doing great now.

So sorry to hear about your husband. Thankfully your children were able to visit with him. Glad he’s on the road to recovery.

Coronavirus update San Antonio, July 3: Bexar County sets record high of 1,334 COVID-19 cases in one day

San Antonio and Bexar County announced a new record of 1,334 coronavirus cases in a single day, according to city leaders.

With these new numbers, this totals 14,212 COVID-19 cases in the community. Two more deaths were also announced by city leaders, and the death toll is now at 117.

San Antonio hospitals are still filling up fast as COVID-19 cases are continuing to surge in the area. Over half of the cases are patients under 40 years of age.

Hospitalizations are still seeing a rapid increase in COVID-19 patients, and there are currently 1,089 patients in the hospital, according to city leaders. There are 345 patients in the ICU and 192 patients on ventilators.

I regret that I’m not close enough to any large firework events. Some of us are still venturing out with social distancing and masks when appropriate.

Apparently sales of fireworks have gone through the roof this year, local news for Ohio and Michigan. So when it gets dark tonight and tomorrow night, it could get loud in the neighborhood. Will have to take extra care of our hearing cat, and her behavior will frighten our non-hearing cat.

Also, warning on the news, don't use hand sanitizer if you are lighting fireworks.

He may have already had it. Who knows, it's not like you can believe Anything they say.

But supposedly EVERYONE who comes close to him is tested. And for this event, he is going to fly in, take a helicopter to the site, walk on stage, give his speech, and then leave immediately. When he speaks, there won't be a person within 25 Feet of him.

So, why the fireworks if he's immediately leaving?

Great article thanks !

Great and informative article: how Dr. Fauci and five other health specialists deal with Covid in their everyday lives. One of the things I was interested in is bringing packages and groceries into the home and how they handle that. None of these medical people disinfect or wash the packages or groceries: they wait a day to use whatever is in the package and they wash their hands after handling the packages. I wash all my groceries with soap and water-- I hate doing it and I believe when they say transmission is not known to occur this way but I just feel more comfortable washing groceries that come into my home. they also talk about handling mail, going to the hair salon, the gym and handling doctor appointments. Very interesting. I do go to the hair salon although i know it has some risk. both the stylist and i wear a mask.
