I've taken to pinning (yeah, I'm lazy) a scrap of silk to the inside of my masks. It feels divine. Highly recommend.
In the beginning of this pandemic, I made a few masks using a stapler and those cheap rubber band from my junk drawer. Haha.
Now I've made a silk mask with proper elastic band. We are moving on up. We ain't poor no more.

I change my mask after every patient (once an hour) and have not had breakouts. I launder immediately after my shift and drip dry. Nothing but moisturizer on my face (no makeup with the mask) and my hair completely back.
Maybe try a light layer of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide before donning your mask? Washing your masks with a small amount of bleach and changing every 2 hours or so? I don't know as I have not encountered this problem. I only wear masks for short periods though. I would think salicylic acid would work. That stuff kills acne like nobody's business.

I saw some interesting masks when I went shopping a while ago. One was a My Little Pony mask (I complimented the woman wearing it), a young man had on what was like a futuristic gas mask with googles. I've seen some Star Wars themed masks (like Darth Vader) and also some pretty flowery/paisley styled ones.

There's definitely a fashion opportunity here. But also you can put messaging on it (Wear a Mask), or support a sports team if you want to.

Probably the strangest thing I saw online was a company making masks of your own face, smiling. Pretty cool, but also kinda eery.

I saw a Santa Muerte mask at a drive thru food window worker and screamed. Truly horrifying but if it works..

So our government is a little silly, they told everyone masks would be mandatory right.. that would be good news right? well yeah i guess until everyone and their uncle rushed to the shops on the same afternoon after the announcement to get masks

i was lucky to 1 - already have some masks and 2 - got the info before others did and ordered online before the masses swamped the sellers and the prices went up.. which they did around $10 a box

so if we end up with any outbreaks connected to chemists or spotlight stores.. for buying masks it may have been counterproductive

I live in Bexar county where cases are growing exponentially. In the past 3 weeks, myself and 2 of my children have been tested a total of 12 times between the 3 of us (it’s a loooong story). These 12 tests have been a combination of 5 rapid tests paid for by insurance, 1 rapid test paid by insurance that would’ve been free if we had no insurance, 3 tests at a free drive up saliva swab PCR testing site, 1 rapid test in the ER, 1 PCR in the hospital, 1 PCR at my work through the health department. The rapid tests obviously all had results while we waited. The PCR tests at the drive up site had results emailed just over 48 hours later. The PCR done while I was an inpatient at the hospital took 12 hours. The PCR swab through my work is still pending 5 days later. We expect those results tomorrow.

My point is this. In one of the worst hit areas of the country at the moment, testing is readily available, both through insurance and for free. Results are timely. The “delay” for results at my work make since due to it being more of a screening round of tests (nobody tested is symptomatic, so it makes sense those aren’t top priority at the moment).

There are literally dozens of places to get tested in my city. If I thought I needed to be tested, I could have a rapid test done in the next few hours tops. I could have a PCR test done with 2-3 day turnaround within the next 24 hours (only because it’s Sunday, otherwise PCR testing is also readily available during the week).

We don’t have a shortage of testing.
That's great you can get such quick tests. I am wondering how common it is to receive several tests. As that could inflate the test numbers. Hope your tests are all negative and continue to be so.

Yes, the number of “long haul” patients who continue to experience symptoms, and long-term organ damage, continues to increase. Highly recommend the (long-running) This Week in Virology podcast to learn more about this stuff. It’s why I’ve gone from “well, worst case scenario, if I get it the odds are in my favor”, to “doing everything I possibly can to avoid getting it and encouraging those around me to do the same”.

And stories like this:

Surviving Coronavirus: My 86 days in hospital

I'm totally with you on doing everything possible to avoid getting it and encouraging others to do the same. Back in March I got very worried about the virus and realized that I really, really didn't want to get it, or for any member of my family to get it.

Since March we have learned so much more about how severely the virus can affect the body, sometimes doing significant damage even in those who don't have major symptoms and don't have to be hospitalized. We have also learned a lot about treatment, with much more to learn, I'm sure.

But I still really, really don't want to get COVID-19.

I went out to shop: masks everywhere, thank goodness.
As it is winter here, I often where a woolen 'tube scarf' , bunched up for extra layers, covering my mouth and throat.
Breathing is more comfortable, even through these layers.
We will even be fined, if Police see us driving, without masks on.

Mandatory masks could be here 'for a very long time'
From Thursday, wearing a face covering will be mandatory when outdoors in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire.

The Government argues it's a low-cost, high-reward tactic to help stop the virus's spread.

And Victorians have been warned they will need to get used to it.

"We are going to be wearing masks in Victoria, and potentially in other parts of the country, for a very long time," Premier Daniel Andrews said.

As stated above in a post from @RANCH.

The Trump administration said on Wednesday that it would no longer directly fund 13 of its original coronavirus testing sites in five states, saying states were allocated money for testing by the federal government last month.

The federal government fully funds a newer testing program with 600 sites in pharmacies and other health care settings and also pays the test costs of a third program run with CVS Health Corp at 1,000 locations

I sure wish the US had national healthcare, then there wouldn't be squabbles about this kind of funding. Federal US taxes would pay for it all.

We have had covid testing available at every hospital and medical centre, in a special, clearly marked, sectioned-off area since this whole thing began (even the car parking for this area is sectioned off).
And then when they do the occassional blitz testing for a specific reason, the drive through sites are set up for a couple of weeks.

No-one argues about the testing sites. Where they should be. Who should pay for them. We all pay for them via our Federal national health tax contributions.

A mad rush to buy face masks is expected to continue across Victoria today, with millions told they will be required to cover up from Thursday.

Face coverings will be mandatory for all residents in Melbourne and the Mitchell Shire coronavirus hotspots whenever they leave their homes.

Anyone who fails to wear a mask could be fined $200.

I'm really invested in not getting it, too. Even if it doesn't outright kill me I don't want to be left with damage that impacts my quality of life, perhaps forever. No thank you.

Police unable to shut down illegal rave attended by over 3000 people at RAF base

Police have said they were unable to shut down an illegal rave near Bath on Saturday night which was attended by more than 3000 people, despite restrictions on large gatherings.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were alerted to the event, which took place at the former RAF Charmy Down airfield, at 11.21pm last night and attended the scene within 10 minutes.

The force added that officers concluded the potential risks to public safety from attempting to stop the event were “too great” due to the large number of people in attendance and “dark and wet conditions” at the site.

“We will take appropriate action against those responsible and would ask anyone with evidence which could help to get in touch, quoting reference 1414 of 18 July.”
