74 and Overweight, Trump Faces Extra Risks From ‘a Very Sneaky Virus’

President Trump, like many men in their 70s, has mild heart disease. He takes a statin drug to treat high cholesterol and aspirin to prevent heart attacks. And at 244 pounds in a health summary released in June, he has crossed the line into obesity.
Thanks for this. I thought the president's poor health, high cholesterol treated by statins, obesity and heart disease treated by daily aspirin was common knowledge and therefore failed to post links. And now, of course, lung damage from covid (as evidenced by O2 desats revealed by his doctor).

He really should be resting and taking care of himself right now as he is in an extremely high risk covid category. He is also elderly, which does not help either.

I'm not sure he understands all this or how honest his doctors have been with him about his precarious situation as far as covid is concerned.

Again, sorry for not posting links. I thought everyone knew all this.

I think the daily aspirin is for his known heart disease. Daily aspirin is not indicated in any standard of care covid treatment.

I hope the fact he is on daily aspirin for his heart disease does not encourage folks to take it as a covid preventative or treatment. Daily aspirin comes with its own risks.
@CharlestonGal I think the post you responded to was meant to be a funny... aspirin in cheap.

Ah, okay! It's sometimes hard to tell in this alternate reality we seem to be currently living in!

I just want people to know that daily aspirin is not benign and only really indicated for folks at high risk of heart attack or stroke, as with the president, when its benefit outweighs the serious risk. Please don't take it only because you think it might help with covid. It is absolutely not indicated for that purpose.

I can't remember the heart disease. Link please.

In summary, the early use of aspirin in covid-19 patients, which has the effects of inhibiting virus replication, anti-platelet aggregation, anti-inflammatory and anti-lung injury, is expected to reduce the incidence of severe and critical patients, shorten the length of hospital duration and reduce the incidence of cardiovascular complications.

Then patients with common and severe ill were randomly divided into two groups, respectively, namely the NCP standard treatment group and the NCP aspirin group (aspirin 100 mg/d, oral + combined standard treatment). Patients in the NCP aspirin group were given aspirin 100 mg/d orally after admission and aspirin for 14 days after discharge.

So the aspirin is for Covid then. From your link.

"Subsequently, aspirin has been confirmed to have antiviral effect on multiple levels. Moreover, one study has confirmed that aspirin can inhibit virus replication by inhibiting prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in macrophages and upregulation of type I interferon production. Subsequently, pharmacological studies have found that aspirin as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic drug by inhibiting cox-oxidase (COX). Under certain conditions, the platelet is the main contributor of innate immune response, studies have found that in the lung injury model in dynamic neutrophil and platelet aggregation.

We had a superspreader event in the White House," Fauci says

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has called the growing number of people around the White House testing positive for Covid-19 a "superspreader event."

"The data speak for themselves. We had a superspreader event in the White House," Fauci told CBS News Radio on Friday, after he was asked about the lack of mask wearing at the White House. "And it was in a situation where people were crowded together, were not wearing masks. So the data speak for themselves."

"Trump also is taking a daily low dose of aspirin, a routine remedy for older men to ward off heart disease, a pre-existing condition that can worsen COVID-19 outcomes. Trump has been on this regimen since at least his first presidential physical exam in 2018."

GOP Rep. Mike Bost tests positive for coronavirus

Rep. Mike Bost, an Illinois Republican, announced Friday he tested positive for coronavirus.

In a statement, he said he has not had a fever but experienced “a mild cough and a rapid loss of both taste and smell” and quickly got tested afterward.

He said staffers he has been in close contact with are quarantining and awaiting their own test results.

He indicated some of his constituents may have been exposed, saying he is beginning the process of reaching out to those he has met with in recent days.

I'm sorry, I started this whole back and forth on aspirin. It was stated aspirin isn't used in Covid treatment. I was simply providing the correct information as we've been asked to do. It kind of spiraled. :) But at least we have the correct information. JMO

White House Blocked C.D.C. From Requiring Masks on Public Transportation

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention drafted a sweeping order last month requiring all passengers and employees to wear masks on all forms of public and commercial transportation in the United States, but it was blocked by the White House, according to two federal health officials.

The order would have been the toughest federal mandate to date aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus, which continues to infect more than 40,000 Americans a day. The officials said that it was drafted under the agency’s “quarantine powers” and that it had the support of the secretary of health and human services, Alex M. Azar II, but the White House Coronavirus Task Force, led by Vice President Mike Pence, declined to even discuss it.

China has officially joined a global vaccine initiative for distributing 2bn doses of Covid-19 vaccines around the world by the end of next year, according to the ministry of foreign affairs.

Foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Friday that Beijing had joined the initiative known as Covax, making China the largest economy to join to coalition aimed at countering so-called “vaccine nationalism”. The US has said that it would not join the alliance, calling it constraining and overly influenced by the World Health Organization and China.

“This is an important step China has taken to uphold the concept of a shared community of health for all and to honour its commitment to turn #Covid19 vaccines into a global public good,” Hua wrote on Twitter.

What on earth? Why would you refuse to join a global covid vaccine initiative? It's going to require a global effort to get covid well and truly in check. Few nations have been able to control this thing on their own. The globe absolutely HAS to work together on this. No matter the geopolitics involved. Unbelievable.:(

Ready for a bit of light heartedness during this very serious covid time? Something to break up the worry and stress for just a moment? Provide a little temporary relief?
(Yes, this is a major MSM publication in Australia, and it is an article about one of the 'side effects' of covid.)

Scroll down to the 55sec video by Ash Williams - which is the 3rd twitter link in the article - for updated commentary on Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton during this pandemic. The article provides the context.

A federal judge has refused to block New York’s plan to temporarily limit the size of religious gatherings in Covid-19 hot spots.

US district judge Judge Kiyo Matsumoto issued the ruling on Friday after an emergency hearing in a lawsuit brought by rabbis and synagogues that argued the restrictions were unconstitutional. They had sought to have enforcement delayed until at least after Jewish holy days this weekend.

The restrictions apply in six designated virus hot spots statewide, in parts of New York City, Rockland and Orange counties, and part of Binghamton. Nonessential businesses and schools have also been shut down in some of those areas.

Ruling from the bench, the judge said the state had an interest in protecting public safety.

Unsung heroes of the Covid-19 pandemic make up almost a third of the Queen’s birthday honours list.

Felicia Kwaku, 52, an associate director of nursing at King’s College NHS foundation trust, said her OBE was for “fallen colleagues”. She helped canvass for better risk assessments to make conditions safer. By the end of May, she had counted 77 nurses and midwives who had died. “Barring three or four,” she said, they were all black or Asian.

Jay Flynn, 38, receives an MBE after transferring his weekly pub quiz online and raising more than £750,000. The money is being split between health charities, with a donation also to the homelessness charity Connection.

David Maguire, 62, a Glasgow restauranteur, receives an MBE after providing “significantly more than 100,000” free meals for hospital workers, vulnerable and isolated people and children missing free school meals during lockdown.

Jolene Miller, 42, a former paramedic turned train driver from Stockton, Co Durham, became a volunteer paramedic caring for critically ill patients while continuing her job with Northern Trains. She arranged with her bosses to work one week on, one week off – “a week on the NHS and a week on the trains”.

There are quite a few articles about it out there.

President Donald Trump has a common form of heart disease, relatively easy to address if he increases the dose of his cholesterol-lowering medication and makes necessary lifestyle changes. Without those changes, the President has a moderate risk of having a heart attack in the next three to five years, according to the Mayo Clinic.

In the case of Trump, a new score of 133 reveals there has been a steady build-up of plaque in his blood vessels, indicating moderate heart disease.

Jackson has already increased the dosage of the Trump's cholesterol-lowering medication and recommended a low-carbohydrate and low-fat diet, along with an exercise regimen.

The article goes on to say BBM -

Like most men of his age, President Donald Trump has a common form of heart disease, relatively easy to address if he increases the dose of his cholesterol-lowering medication and makes necessary lifestyle changes.

Trump, 71, is not too different than most Americans his age. After the age of 40, most men in the United States have some evidence of heart disease, and the President's score places him squarely in the mid-risk range for a man of his age. Because the President doesn't smoke or drink and "appears to have good genes," according to Jackson, he has been able to avoid the classic symptoms of heart disease.

"His score is 133 and he is 71 years of age, which puts him in the 46 percentile," said cardiologist Dr. Rachel Bond of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. "What does this indicate? Yes, he certainly has coronary artery disease because calcium is present. But this is also common for someone his gender, race and age.

"When I compare him to other males who are 71 and white, only 46% of others have a better score than him."
