I had my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine early this afternoon. The entire process took about 30 minutes - arrival, check-in, injection, self-monitoring for 15 minutes. I barely felt the shot and have been moving my arm around frequently to ward off discomfort. I asked if DH could get his shot today, too, but they have to stick to the lottery protocol for now. Hopefully, he will be invited to get the vaccine shortly. I'll get my second dose on March 24 at noon.

So happy for you! I had some brain fog for a couple of days after mine (Moderna) and now DH has the same thing. Arm pain went away at around day 4.

They keep showing big needles on the news when they are talking vaccines, but it's actually a teensy needle and a small shot.

I am very happy that so many of my WS friends are now vaccinated. California is now down to the lowest positivity rate we've had since the pandemic began.

I cringe every time I hear media people use the expression "shots in arms" because it is probably scaring people who have an aversion to shots or needles. Dolly Parton gets Covid-19 vaccination, jokes she got a 'dose of her own medicine' (nbcnews.com)

The country singer sang to fans to encourage them to get their own shots, playing with the words to her famed ballad "Jolene."

Country singer Dolly Parton joked about getting her coronavirus vaccination shot Tuesday at Vanderbilt Health in Tennessee, alluding to her help funding the Moderna vaccine.

Parton, 75, posted a photo of herself getting the shot to her social media accounts with the caption "Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine." Last year, Parton announced that she had donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University to help find a cure for Covid-19.

She also posted a video urging her followers to be vaccinated if they are eligible and said that she was "old enough" and "smart enough" to get her shot. Parton also played with the words to her famed ballad "Jolene" for the occasion...

I am not sure that I get your point. I do agree, but that is not what is at stake.

In Europe, the vaccines of Pfizer and Moderna were (are) being presented with a 90 - 95% protection.
AstraZeneca would be at a mere 60%, no more, meaning that out of every 100 people vaccinated with AZ, "only 40" would end up in hospital.
That is low enough to make even the most vaccine-pro person scratch their head, do the math and say: I'll take 95% protection any time, so I'll better wait for Pfizer!

This is currently happening in Germany and France.

Germany is pushing hard for people to take the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine as many turn it down in hope of a Pfizer shot

Regulators have approved both the shot developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University and the shot developed by Pfizer and the German company BioNTech, but differing efficacy rates from clinical trials appear to have driven many to try to hold out for a Pfizer-BioNTech jab.

That shot has produced efficacy in trials as high as 95%, compared with 60% for the AstraZeneca jab in a review by European regulators.

Experts say that directly comparing the figures is misleading and not a good reason to refuse the AstraZeneca jab — but the message has failed to reach much of Germany's population.

Only 187,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine have been given so far in Germany, Reuters reported on Monday. The country was expecting to have delivered 1.5 million doses of the vaccine by the end of last week.

One vaccine site in Berlin that distributed only the AstraZeneca jab has seen fewer than 200 people a day arriving for 3,800 appointments, The Times of London reported on Monday.

For a vaccination campaign to be effective, speed is key.

I am very happy that I did my own research about AZ and I wish more people would do so since authorities are acting irresponsibly.

Bold is mine. That is NOT what 60% efficacy means. Who is saying this?

EMA, European Medicines Agency.

As for the number of people ending up in hospital with COVID (60 out of 100 would not if vaccinated with AZ, and 40 would indeed, even though vaccinated with AZ), I found that one on the official website of the Dutch RIVM, the main health authority in this pandemic.

Same trouble in France, they are trying to repair it.

France admits it needs to repair the image of AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine after struggling to convince people to take it

France is working to fix the disastrous image of the AstraZeneca vaccine in the country, after many in the country proved reluctant to take it.

The efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine has been questioned after confusion about its trial results have eroded people's confidence in the shot.

President Emmanuel Macron was among those to disparage the jab, saying in late January that the vaccine seemed "quasi-ineffective" in people over 65.

Insider contacted the French health ministry for comment but did not hear back by time of publication.

The European Medicines Agency reports that the jab has a 60% efficacy against COVID-19 in clinical trials, lower than its Pfizer and AstraZeneca equivalents.

The AstraZeneca jab is only given to those under 65 in France, with priority given to health workers.

....

On Tuesday, French Health Minister Olivier Véran commented on the "absolutely phenomenal" efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine in people over 65, as shown in the data from the rollout in Scotland.

He said he was waiting for the data to be reviewed by other scientists before deciding whether to roll it out to over -65s as well.

Véran, who is 40, demonstrated his confidence in the vaccine by getting the shot himself on February 8.

After I had my first shot (Pfizer) yesterday, DH was contacted by Meijer via text message this morning. He will get his Moderna vaccine at 11:30. Much closer than the Beaumont facility where I had to go. He doesn't want to wait for an invitation from Beaumont Health since he's been offered the shot today.

The question by other posters is questioning to your statement which you again are making, but not in any of the links you are sharing. There is disagreement as to what 60% efficacy means. You again state

"As for the number of people ending up in hospital with COVID (60 out of 100 would not if vaccinated with AZ, and 40 would indeed, even though vaccinated with AZ)" which is not stated in your links, and is incorrect.

This vaccine, as do the others, have 100% in trials keeping folks out of the hospital. Not sure where you/others are picking up the misunderstanding that 40% (or 30% shown) would be ending up in the hospital, as that is the percentage with mild. It's 0% for hospitalization.

Here you go. Happy reading!

Het coronavaccin van AstraZeneca

Beschermt een coronavaccin ook als het bijvoorbeeld 60% of 95% werkzaam is?

Yes, exactly! As they state it's the (mild) cases, not hospitalizations. Glad you found such clarification.

From your link : "It is especially important that people are protected from serious consequences of COVID-19. AstraZeneca's corona vaccine does this. This means that fewer people with COVID-19 end up in hospital after vaccination with AstraZeneca."

Hello everyone! LTNS!

My DH, and I received our first Moderna shot on January 28th. We got our final Moderna shot on March 2nd.

When getting the first dose I had a headache, and slight pain in the area of my kidneys for about four or five days. Of course both of our arms were sore for a couple of days as well.

When we got our final dose both of us had a slight headache this time even though my hubby didn't experience headaches the first time. However, my left entire arm/shoulder this time felt like it was locked. That lasted until yesterday. I still had slight pain in the area of my kidneys, but that too has subsided.

One of our daughters had her final shot at the same time we did. She did fine with the first dose. However, by the next morning she had fever, chills, and severe body aches. She was very sick in bed for a couple of days, but felt well enough to return to work today.

Our next door neighbors who are also close friends both got Covid, and were very sick for a month in January. Both had to have emergency breathing treatments at the hospital, and were given therapeutics. They told us afterwards they were afraid they were going to die. They just happened to have a dear friend staying with them who had recently lost her husband of 48 years when it happened. She turned out to be such a blessing, and she cared for them never wearing a mask. She's a very healthy 72, and never contracted the virus. She's already had both Pfizer doses, and only had a sore arm.

Due to both of us being in the high risk age it was the first time we couldn't care for them like we've done for many years when she became sick even though she's seven years younger than I am.

Her hubby is my hubby's age (75), and he was so sick he said he doesn't remember much of anything the entire time.

They both had their first Pfizer dose yesterday. I had thought the doctor would suggest waiting for 90 days, but he said both had low or compromised immune systems already so he recommended they receive them around 30 days after no longer having the virus.

I'm not one to take vaccinations like the flu shot, but this time I felt I made the right choice for myself, and for all of my loving family/friends.

We still wear our masks when we are going out in public places even though cases have dramatically declined in our area in the past few weeks, thank goodness.

Take care all!

I had the Oxford AZ vaccine a week ago, pain in my arm for a couple of days and a bit of body ache (but nothing major). Will have the 2nd dose in about 11 weeks time, anyone unsure just look at the stats for the UK, our figures are certainly going in the right direction.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I had Moderna, a little pain in the arm, low energy level, mild headache first 2 days, and didn't feell bad. Day 3, I develped a low grade fever, body aches, pain in kidney area, upset stomach and zero appetite. I'm day 8 with <101 temp, body aches head to toe, pain in kidney area, and smell of food makes me nauseous.

Everyday I think ...well thats it, today I'll wake up with no side effects.

I'm so sorry to read you are still having side effects this many days out.

Have you contacted a doctor to inform them you are still experiencing these side effects? Perhaps he or she could give you therapeutic meds that will help you recover quicker?

I forgot to mention in my prior post that this time both my hubby, and I have had pain/stiffness/aches across the top of our shoulders, and neck. It's been five days, and mine is still causing me problems. I just ask my hubby, and he said he still feels a little achy, and tight in those areas, but it seems to be getting better now.

I hope you completely recover soon, SS. Perhaps it shows you have a strong immune system?

Take care, and please keep us updated.

Just had my second Moderna dose this morning!

Too bad the particular hospital system -- apparently has some difficulty with their appointment software. Just sayin.' IF my screen reads that I have an appointment -- ya'll should NOT be surprised when I arrive.

Still, have my 2nd dose so it's all good.

jmho ymmv lrr.

Thank you. Yes, I contacted my doctor, who was not surprised. I'm super sensitive to many "drugs" and was very sick in March and we now ponder if "it" was Covid. I do know to head to ER if I have difficulty breathing.

Today seems much better and regardless of reaction, so very happy to have my first dose.

The second week of March 2020 my grand daughter participated in the national Robotic completion in DC. (participants across the US, judges were from NASA and military agencies).Within days she was sick with respiratory flu symptoms, high fever, a trip to ER showed negative for flu. My daughter was sick 3 days later, same symptoms plus complaining of her feet "killing" her, red and swollen. I developed respiratory symptoms days later, and had two rounds of antibiotics, steroids, inhalers...the works. We were sick for over a month, GD is still tired all the time.

I'm more convinced we had early Covid, especially after my vaccine reaction. I ask granddaughter if she was game to take an antibody test, this am. Kroger in our area is now offering.

DH and I wondered why there aren't more convenient locations for vaccine distribution, but now that I have been through the process, I understand what a major undertaking it is. I had the same experience as you- very organized - I have heard only good things about the vaccination process: i would have to wonder though about how well organized it is to give vaccines in a drug store like CVS- I can only imagine lots of people standing close together in line (hope not)--- I really took issue with Mayor Duggan dissing the J&J vaccine, describing it as inferior to the others: he has tried to walk it back after getting tremendous criticism (well deserved)-- He makes that comment to an inner city population who are already leery of getting the vaccine. All I can say is DUH!!!!

I never had a vaccine until I got my first shot of Moderna 12 days ago: I was never scared of the flu- though thankfully I never got it, but with this wicked killing virus, any side effects from the vaccine pale in comparison to possible death/horrible illness from the virus: My husband and I are in our 70's - the death toll for people in their 70's is extraordinarily high from this virus. Stay safe and be well.
