Fascinating thread - some great and impressively sensitive sleuthing being done here, even enticed me to sign up! Well done all, and my heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their loved ones.

I'd just like to add a thought on one small detail from waaaaay back in the thread that was bugging me for ages, but is now POSSIBLY starting to make a small scrap of sense:

IF the Billings' were providing a sort of 'witness protection' or 'new start' service to women in trouble - and possibly the children of those women, in some cases - and IF they were frequently trying to outmaneuver the sorts of nutcases who post fake social networking profiles purporting to be the very individuals they're trying to track down (as we've seen LPG JR doing)...then wouldn't that help explain the strange issue of the Billings' apparent attempts to copyright/trademark people's names that we seemed to stumble upon earlier?

If a name has been trademarked, it becomes an illegal infringement to use that name "in bad faith". It's a route that many celebrities have taken to prevent cybersquatters from registering morganfreeman.com or whatever, then using the resulting traffic for their own ends - perhaps there's a similar legal channel available to victims of crime who've been forced to flee/start over?

Just a thought, but it might help explain those odd Billings trademark-type documents we found. A trademark or patent application, if successful, would provide an added layer of protection to a person in hiding - whether or not they'd actually changed their name - by preventing anyone from pretending to be them in order to glean information.

The only problem is that the names apparently being trademarked weren't especially distinctive...which apparently makes an application much less likely to be successful. (Although perhaps the fact that a distinctive name for a person in hiding would be counterproductive provides a justification..?)

I didn't see it. But I would venture to guess it was Susan Berry, principal of the school where some of the children attend, or Marie Kendrick or Christy Adams, teachers there who had a couple of the kids, including Nikki years ago.

I have taught 4 of the adopted children so far, (M, J, R, and T) I will have a 5th this year, E.

It is very hard you have to understand you can't have one of their children and not get to know them. They are very involved with their children's education and come to all the school events, field trips, etc. I became friends with them while their first child was in my class, now after all the years we saw each other often outside of school and talked often on the phone.

they were just super special people. IF you knew them, they loved you and you were better for it. Bud always greeted me with huge bear hugs and a beautiful smile. That is just how they were. They loved everyone, their kids, their family, and their friends unconditionally and with a passion.

Our world will be a much darker place without them.

You're a teacher at Westgate? The school and the Snoezelen Center is amazing!

No I did my student teaching at WestGate long ago and know many of the teachers there.

I teach at <redacted - > which is next door. That is where many of the other children attend. This year there will be 3 at <redacted> and 6 at <redacted>.

But you're right the snoozelin center is amazing. Since I also teach special education students we go there on field trips with the children. It is great for the kids and especially nice since all we have to do is walk next door.

How it all ties together not sure but I really believe these were good people and really did care for these woman and children.I honestly believe it had to be done for a good cause otherwise to own all these woman for the rest of their lives just would not make sense.

welcome and thanks
I have a question to all, how did the Billings get so rich????

Ann Simmons is still listed at the same address - the house with the lein on it.

Sounds to me like Byrd and Melanie sold this property to them. I don't see a mortgage. Do you?

I don't know, my head is starting to burn. I need some feedback on these warranty's. I am giving it my best shot.

This is the weirdest thing....

IMO, it wasn't that they were so 'rich'. They were well off, yes. They had several car lots in the past. Still are partners in one with Ashley's husband's parents and they owned the finance company. Bud was a hardworking man who made his money.

To know them they didn't live rich. The lived well off with a nice house that was mainly built to be equipped for the kids. They were just normal down to earth people. You've seen the pictures of them. they didn't wear expensive designer clothing or whatever although the children dressed very nicely. They were just normal people.

Mom,

Was the Billings house on the market??

See Below Link to their home!

http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/9717-Mobile-Hwy-Pensacola-FL-32526/67457762_zpid/

Zillow seems to pull things in from all sorts of databases expired MLS listings, tax databases etc....

But this specifically lists 2 "owner provided" photographs, the owners phone number, a "make me move" price and this owner provided description:

"Granite vanities in all bathrooms, Thermadore & Bosch appliances in home, Stocked lake with catfish and brim, Island in kitchen with gas cooktop/griddle, Huge laundry room with double washers and dryers, Tray ceilings throughout home, Home is hard wired to a huge generator in case of power outages, Granite countertops and bar in kitchen, matching fireplace and mantle. Approximately 6 acres, additional 11 acres available. Huge two story garage approx. 1900 sq ft. Upstairs is a brand new one bedroom apartment."

That wouldn't be information pulled from a tax database. I wonder when the New one bedroom apartment came to be?

Okay, you are correct. It is against citibank. Phew on clearing that up for me. She has a HUGE record collection though!

ITA. I haven't had time to go back and check out all the property ownership documents in detail, but wasn't somebody saying earlier that it seemed a couple of Billings places had been sold for token fees of like $10 or something? Does it look as though the Billings' were possibly selling safehouses? That would certainly explain the absurdly low price tags...

Furthermore, re: owing someone 'anything and everything'...if you ARE protecting someone who doesn't want to be found, effectively wiping their existing financial data and signing all that person's future earnings over to yourself is actually a great way to help them stay hidden - doesn't mean for a second you necessarily KEEP the money, rather that you simply become a middleman and thus cut off the paper trail to the person in hiding. You can still actually hand that person back all their earnings and more, obviously - it's just that it'll be YOUR name on all the transactions, not theirs, and so they stay better hidden.
