There are way too many players and plots for me to form a complete picture of what is happening. What a mess!

I'm curious why this has become so focused on RC. There seem to be a lot of interesting characters at play.

Thanks for all the articles... everyone. It's going to take a long time for me to grasp what is happening. SMH

Like everything else we’ve been looking at in JFD’s murder, there are a lot of layers here, I think. It occurs to me that RC maybe have been conducting business as usual for the State of CT, in a way that he considered customary-and the rug was pulled out from underneath him, as it should have been for everyone in that role, and wasn’t.

@CChauFOX61
State Prosecutor Richard Colangelo has chosen to retire. This is effective March 31st, 2022. This was stated in a letter from Colangelo himself.
This announcement was made during the Criminal Justice Commission special meeting today.

He will be focused on administrative tasks until then, will not prosecute or investigate cases.

Interim state prosecutor will be appointed starting on April 1st, 2022

@johncraven1

During his remaining time, Colangelo will not continue to prosecute or investigate any cases, but will only relay relevant info about them to other prosecutors to ensure the continuity and integrity of those cases and fulfill his duties under the rules of professional conduct

Here's a TV interview with RC from when he was appointed chief. Notice he said he didn't think he would be leading the Dulos case after he became Chief, but others in the Stamford office were as familiar with the case as he was. I don't know who the lead prosecutor is there. Anyone know?

Matt Caron:

Tell us about you. Who is Richard Colangelo and what is your brand of justice?

Richard Colangelo:

“The way that I’ve done my job as a prosecutor throughout the years is just to make sure I do the right thing.”

M:

When you were promoted to this post, you were leading the prosecution on the one of the most high profile cases Connecticut has ever seen. The Dulos murder case. How will your involvement in the case change and how will a new lead prosecutor be selected?

R:

“Right now I’m still acting states attorney in Stamford so I guess I’m still leading the charge there. I don’t think I’ll be able to continue that. Once the new states attorney is appointed I will have a conversation with whoever that person is to talk about the case. There are members of the office who are very familiar with the case just like I was.”

Big thanks again @pernickety for sharing the linked info where RC provided it was not likely he'd continue prosecuting the case.

All this time I've been thinking about the 2018 Mollie Tibbetts case -- a college student in Iowa abducted and murdered while jogging in her hometown and where the Attorney General acted as the prosecutor, and the accused convicted of murder in 2021.

Mollie Tibbetts murder update: New claims by Bahena Rivera's lawyers

“After reading the report, we found the conduct of the chief state’s attorney extremely disappointing and disturbing,” said commission member Attorney Scott Murphy, a former New Britain State’s Attorney at the end of a one-hour meeting held Wednesday to start the process of terminating Colangelo. “We are pleased he has made this decision to retire. It is the right thing for the Division of Criminal Justice. If he had not chosen to retire, we are confident this commission would have moved to terminate him.”

The search for Jennifer Dulos is believed to be the largest investigation in state history. Colangelo was appointed Chief State’s Attorney on Jan. 30, 2020 – the same day Fotis Dulos died following a suicide attempt two days before.

Colangelo continued to prosecute the conspiracy to commit murder charges filed against Troconis and Attorney Kent Mawhinney well into his first term as Chief State’s Attorney.

Those cases are pending and now in the hands of Stamford and Norwalk State’s Attorney Paul Ferencek.

Paul Ferencek--is that a homophone for "forensic"? So much is about the forensic evidence.

Another postponement? What a surprise…

I just read in the New London Day an Associated Press article that AT&T plans to “unplug its 3G Network on Tuesday “ and one manufacturer says it’s been unable to update some of their 3G - reliant devices so some wearers may go undetected! They don’t name the manufacturer. Sure hope MT’s has been updated.

Wow! Not sure how Connecticut keeps track of her in Florida & Colorado, anyway...all those ties to Connecticut that Schoenhorn talked about....

Remember Michael Meehan, the guardian ad litem for the 5 children, that JD was trying to get dismissed before she was murdered, for reportedly giving the sealed psych report to FD and his legal team?

Well now he’s representing Hadley Palmer, who has pleaded guilty to voyeurism and risk of injury to a minor.
In that case, MM has convinced Judge Blawie to seal the proceedings to protect the minor involved (and preserve his clients reputation as a convenient side effect).

While JS continues to be relentless in court in his push to get the Dulos psych evaluation unsealed.

And it was MM who supposedly gave the Dulos report to FD. But now he begs to keep HPs proceedings sealed to protect the minor involved. Why wasn’t he thinking of the 5 minors he was supposed to be protecting when he handed the sealed Dulos report over to FD?

Let’s hope Blawie holds the same hard line with JS and sends him packing for good on his whining for the psych report.

And that MT might get to be roommates with HP in Niantic sometime soon too.

MOO.

1/24/22 Update: Violation: Awaiting deposition, next hearing on 2/3/22. Assault: Next pretrial hearing on 2/3/22.
2/3/22 Update: Mawhinney appeared Thursday in State Superior Court in Hartford since a judge ordered Hartford State’s Attorney Sharmese Walcott to provide detailed responses to the evidence the prosecution has gathered in the domestic cases. Another prosecutor stood in for Walcott during the brief proceedings on Thursday. Judge Hope Seeley told the court she expected the case to go in a particular direction Thursday. Instead, she called for a short continuance until 2/23/22 so she could receive “the further information the court has asked for."
*Michelle C. Tronconis (44/now 46) – Case #021178T, #0167364T & #0148553T: Pretrial hearing on 3/29/22.
*Fotis Dulos (52) – Committed suicide on 1/28/20 & declared dead at 5:32pm on 1/30/20. 3/3/20: Charges dismissed. The case against Dulos will be officially dismissed in about a year, unless the state decides to reopen it. 1/17/22: After debt, no money left in Dulos estate for children. While Fotis Dulos’ estate has $395,687 in assets, it owes $548,280.75 in expenses, according to Farmington Probate Court records. Attorney Christopher Hug will be paid $189,525 for settling the estate & attorney Paul Knierim, who represented Hug, will receive $98,326, court documents show."

Attorney Kent Mawhinney, a co-defendant in the disappearance of Jennifer Dulos, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a charge of violating a protective order that stemmed from an incident involving his ex-wife, records show.

Mawhinney entered his plea under the Alford Doctrine, which means he does not admit guilt but agrees that there is sufficient evidence to potentially be convicted. Under an agreement with prosecutors, Mawhinney would receive a suspended five-year prison sentence and three years of probation.

Mawhinney is scheduled to be sentenced on April 20...

Schoenhorn wants all arrest reports and evidence in the domestic violence cases, along with any other evidence indicating whether Mawhinney struck a deal to testify against his client. On Jan. 24, Seeley told Walcott she had a month to provide the court with the information Schoenhorn was seeking.

Schoenhorn said Tuesday that so far no court date to discuss the information has been set but he believes Walcott has until next week to provide the data.
