Despite JS's objections about the media influence in the JFD disappearance and apparent death, it's good to remember that "fair and impartial" juries were found in many high-profile murders.

The referenced article below discusses several such cases in CA including then Scott Peterson case. (although the judge's dismissal of prospective jurors who did not favor the death penalty...another story).

CA's population is certainly larger than CT's, but there are 12 individuals who should qualify for MT's trial.

After having served on 3 juries, I know that some of the discussion prior to being brought in for voir dire involved some of the people in the jury pool discussing "how they were going to avoid" jury duty, especially for a long case. Unfortunately many people can't or won't commit the time necessary for the trial. '

It may take a month, but the jurors are there to be found, IMO. I don't think it would be any easier in Hartford.

Does anyone know if JS is using a jury consultant?
If given the budget, I don't doubt he would. However, JLS already spent $$$ on an expert to state the trial jurisdiction should be changed and that motion failed.

Troconis was in court Wednesday to listen to questioning for the men and women who could decide her case.

The jury for Troconis’ trial will consist of six regular jurors and six alternates.

“This is gonna be a slow process, it seems that a lot of people have opinions,” Jon Schoenhorn, attorney for Troconis, said.

The initial 30 potential jurors were handed a witness list and asked if they recognized any of the names.

Jurors who were not immediately excused were then asked five questions:

Have you heard about the case, do you regularly follow media reports about the case, have you posted to social media about the case, have you formed an opinion about the defendant and are you able to not follow media reports, have conversations about or investigate the case? The potential jurors were also informed the trial will be livestreamed.

Jennifer Dulos’ family released a statement Wednesday morning.

"It is hard to believe that almost four and a half years have elapsed since Jennifer disappeared, and she still has not been found. Every day, we miss her voice, her laugh, her gentle demeanor, her inner and outer strength, her insight, her guidance, her determination, her way with words, her love, her faith, her goodness. Many thanks to all who have helped to keep Jennifer’s memory alive.

"We are relieved that the trial process is underway, and we are endlessly grateful to the Connecticut State’s Attorney’s office for their commitment, diligent work, and support," the statement says.

Jury selection is expected to take up to a month.

The trial is scheduled to start in January, but Troconis' attorney said he plans to ask for an earlier date.

The evidence portion of the trial is set to start on Jan. 8 and it is expected to last at least six weeks.

Local attorney Kent Mawhinney was also arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. He represented Fotis Dulos in previous civil cases unrelated to Jennifer Dulos' disappearance.

STAMFORD — The second day of jury selection for the Michelle Troconis trial ended early Thursday when the court was notified that a potential juror brought a newspaper containing a front-page headline about the Jennifer Dulos case.

A potential juror who alerted the court about the article said they didn't know which newspaper was brought to the courthouse. The person also said they were involved in a conversation with two other potential jurors at lunchtime outside the courthouse about what they knew about the case.

Defense attorney Jon Schoenhorn, who is representing Troconis, said afterward that the information raised concerns about the jury pool. Superior Court Judge Kevin A. Randolph excused the remainder of the potential jury panel around 4:20 p.m. Thursday, but decided to keep the one juror who was chosen earlier on Thursday.

[..]

As of Thursday, three jurors have been accepted, though one chosen on Wednesday notified the court that their employer may not pay them for the entire trial. Two of the three chosen jurors told attorneys they had heard about the case before coming to court, but had not formed an opinion about whether Troconis is innocent or guilty.

Randolph said jury selection will resume next Wednesday after attorneys determine whether the one juror with a potential conflict can still serve.

Jury selection continues on Thursday, 10/12/23.

"...In light of last week’s issue, Superior Court Judge Kevin A. Randolph started asking potential jurors if they had heard anything about the case that day or if they had heard of anyone discussing the case during breaks.

Randolph and the attorneys also focused more on dismissing potential jurors who couldn’t serve due to possible financial hardship. In the afternoon, Randolph asked for the remaining jury pool to check on their employers' compensation policy for jury duty. Starting on the sixth day of jury service, the state pays jurors $50 each day regardless of their employment status, according to the state Judicial Branch.

Jury selection is expected to continue Thursday morning. Schoenhorn previously said he expected jury selection to take at least a month..."

I was thinking that there wouldn’t be any jury selection tomorrow…glad to see that there will be. Any idea if they were able to select any jurors today?

One more juror selected for Michelle Troconis’ upcoming trial in connection to the disappearance and presumed death of Jennifer Dulos. We now have five seats filled. Six jurors and six alternates will be picked for the start of the trial Jan. 8.

Perfect: 10/4/23 -- Jury selection commenced.

As of 10/12/23 -- 5 of 12 seats are filled (including 6 alternates).

Filling the remaining seats will not require a month...

JLS = hot air. MOO

I never thought it would take a month-I wonder if he will start to stall, or just about an even longer gap between jury selection, and the trial?
