Back to square one....if not for a sexual meet up, why would he have been there without his wife's knowledge?

He could have drove from the Donavan to their home on the Hill in under 15 minutes traveling after 8pm on a Monday night. If he took the Metro he would have a 7 minute walk from the Donavan to the McPherson Square Metro station and a 10 minute trip on the Orange, Blue or Silver line (whichever came first) to Capitol South station and maybe a 5 minute walk to their home.

So an hours heads-up of the text leaves just about enough time for a shower and to get home, if that was what was up?

Thank you a million times for this. I stated it less eloquently in an earlier post--there would have been no reason for David to hide, if he were gay. He certainly would not have gotten married. It is a different world now.

It was reported, and sounded pretty confirmed by the hotel manager, not sure about LE, in MSM that the elevator was out of order that day. So if it was collusion, the only electronic signal so far that is public is the early all good call on Monday with the wife, as they may have been apart all Sunday, sounded like it was made prior to the 5:30 pm check-in at the hotel, and then there is that last home in an hour text 7:34 pm, that the wife drew concern from to call LE around midnight. LE may have traced him over-night, probably waited to see if he may have been checking out in the morning, then asked the hotel to do the welfare check, sounds like, by around 11 am it was known, check out time.

LE would not have tracked him down this fast. Someone told them where to find him.

It is a different time, but some families are not accepting.
And for some people, the thrill is in the sneakiness.

The hotel elevators must be activated with a room keycard, making it difficult for visitors to get to guest floors without being escorted.

I can answer your question. As a gay man who has hooked up with guys in the past (To clarify I'm not referring to an escort thing or a massage thing; never done either. Just a hookup type thing) it basically goes like this:

Meet each other online, exchange additional photos, chat and get to know each other. If you feel the person seems cool, you're attracted to him and you generally mesh well online; you may decide you want to connect. Often at that point it's a good idea to exchange phone numbers and have a brief conversation (someone can seem fine online but not so much on the phone; if that's the case then don't move forward)

If he's staying at a hotel and invites you over then get the name of the hotel and room number. Ask if the elevator needs a room key (if so, have him meet you in the lobby), if not then walk into the hotel like you belong there. Always good to text that you've arrived. Go to the room, knock on the door. If you look like your picture, he'll open the door. If he doesn't look like his picture then get out of there immediately.

It is a different time, but some families are not accepting.

This being said, maybe the wife knew and accepted it?

Think about it:
* Even if his parents were the most homophobic people on the planet, when he began college he was not under their roof.
* Then he went to Boston for law school.
* Then he seemingly went out of his way to do a summer gig at a Chicago law firm (Mayer Brown) to be closer to Kim
* Then left Mayer Brown in Chicago and accepted a position in Cleveland clerking at the Cleveland Clinic and working in an aspect of law that was not his focus in law school or in his later career--- David wanted to be with Kim so he made sacrifices to be with her in Cleveland (yes, Cleveland; only a man in love would move to Cleveland for his love).
* After she completed her post graduate studies they both accepted positions in DC: Kim at Washington Hospital Center and David at Mayer Brown (which suggests to me that they likely offered him a position in 2009 but he went to Cleveland instead).
* Then they waited 2 1/2 years before finally getting married in 2012.

A series of imaginary girlfriends would suffice if the parents were Hank and Helen Homophobic; no one does all of what I outlined above to maintain a cover, not in the 2010's. The guy had so many opportunities to make a break from her if he was living a lie. The evidence would indicate he was not living a lie.

Thanks to all sleuthers here this afternoon for your sensitive input and sincere thoughts. Going to think on this, I feel a hot bath calling. My feeling was that he sent that text at 7:30 because he was through with his appointment - male or female, does not matter. Or maybe even a no show? I grew up in ATL with a gay older brother, and I wish things had been even half as open as the world is now. DM sounds like he was a wonderful person anyone would be proud to know. I particularly like that Hastings showed us his marriage in another light.

I do think this was planned (not for $, life ins) but anger. This person had to figure out how to get to the 4th floor exactly and was concerned about cameras. Who could be so bold? I'm having lots of ideas but keep coming back to one. Better not start...

Not necessarily; Kim is an anesthesiologist at a prominent DC hospital, it would by no means by odd for her to be working on a Sunday or crazy hours there.

The text message read "about an hour" which seems to mean 60-90 minutes to most people in my life (whereas if I write "about an hour" in a text it's 55 minutes at the very latest....I hate my promptness)...

So I have a theory based on some sleuthing, because it's just my opinion and my sleuthing I'll just post my theory.
The only thing this crime has to do with gay hookups is its meant to hide the real killer's gender and identity. Just like she tried to conceal her identity as female by dressing in clothing much too big for her. I believe the POI is known to both DM and his wife. I believe DM was probably in an affair with this person. I believe this person lives in the DC vicinity (very close). I believe this person wanted more and DM did not. I believe this person has inserted themselves into the situation to gain knowledge of the family and close friends and possibly LE's direction. I said this person was known to both Kim and DM but not in a close capacity and therefore has probably sought out his brother's, sis-in-laws, and close friends as a means to keep an eye on and not to come off as the grieving friend she may portray. I think LE probably has already talked with her and she is on their radar.
