That's creepy DD, it mirrors what Jan Jenkins said happened to her son. Ref. post 230.

I think someone here did post info on this. Certainly worth a second, deeper look after reading Jan Jenkin's comment:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buzzkill_(TV_series)

Buzzkill is a hidden camera reality show created in 1995 for the MTV network. The show derived its name from the slang term "buzzkill", meaning a sudden undesired event that causes one's "high" or "buzz" to become of a lesser experience or depleted. Each new episode was set in a different location and consisted of three separate pranks.

******
The below snippet refers to MTV's litigation concern. Duh, ya think?

Premise
A forerunner to prank reality shows, Buzzkill was essentially a series of elaborate pranks (backed by a major television network's budget) played not only on the layman but often on celebrities and major public figures. Each prank was played by three aspiring actors from the Chicago area: Dave Sheridan (creator), Frank Hudetz, and Travis Draft.
The show's most memorable moment was when Hudetz disguised himself as famous designer Isaac Mizrahi. The likeness was so uncanny that he fooled superstar Whitney Houston at an awards show; when Houston discovered the error, she felt she was made a fool of and vowed never to appear on MTV again.
After ?? episodes, the show was cancelled due to litigation concerns at MTV. Ironically, because of Buzzkill more outrageous reality shows would be developed for MTV, including The Tom Green Show, Jackass, and Punk'd.
The show's theme song uses the exact same verse and chorus melody as the GG Allin classic 'Multiple Forms of Self-Satisfaction'.

"The Free Shuttle"They set up a fake shuttle business over Spring Break, with 2 of them dressed rattly acting like the proprietors and the other as a plant in the van who said he was getting a ride from their business. They picked up a bunch of college kids and said they'd shuttle them about 5 miles down the road for a cheap price. 2 hours later they were still driving, "lost" in the area. Eventually they had to stop and get gas, and the one who went inside ran back into the van with pantyhose over his head and yelled "Dude, GO!!" They peeled out of the station as the kids in the back looked totally horrified.

I think it was meant to be just a funny prankster reality show. But what got me was the van and driving kids around for hours, saying they were giving them a ride home.

Could this be how they lored their vics once outside the bar, posing as someone willing to drive them home. Or god forbid, in fake uniforms doing the same thing. Remember Chris Jenkins girlfriend was wearing a police outfit for Halloween and made sure she introduced Chris to the off duty cops that were working security there that night.

Could it be Chris walked out of the bar and two men approach and direct him to the parking garage where they say they have LE van waiting only IT'S / any van that could have a magnet sign/ logo on it.. or nothing..if he asked they say it is unmarked?

Just strange that in the case of Josh in NY, where they used a DEC van..was that a similiar ruse to get Josh into the van?

I thought I read an article or watched a video where someone said they saw two men in dark shirts approach him after he left the bar? Or maybe that was one of the other possible vics? Still, I think we are working towards a pattern here with the van in both Chris and Josh's cases.

DD, I think this possible method of luring needs to be considered.

The other thing that keeps coming up are the presence of LE in some cases that is why the kids ran, got separated, then one is never seen again. Just maybe there are people pretending to be LE or city workers, the DEC van, and that is part of the lure. The other thing I wanted to mention Josh Snell called friends and said he was being chased, he was in thick brush, he didn't know by whom or why he was being chased. In 2 other case Le showed up and the kids scattered, into woods and brush, later to find that one friend was missing.

I think there are only a couple different scenarios that they use, but I think pretending to be LE is one of them. Any situation where you could gain a persons trust quickly. Since these guys show no physical signs of being beaten into compliance it is possibly drugs mixed with the appearance of someone trustworthy. Remember these are all smart kids, so something has to be used to separate them from their group and gain compliance.

I'm not convinced yet that there are connections at all and I doubt that this case is part of a pattern.

HOWEVER, if Chiang IS part of a "gang" or is a wannabee, the fact that he is in custody is fantastic in the context of learning more about any such "gang".

Of course, if he was just looking to get the kid's atm card or something, he will be of no help whatsoever.

I've been reading about alot of crime in West Chester centered around the colleges there. Rapes, burglaries, etc. Maybe these are wannabes building up to actual killing and abduction..you never know.

To ask again what another poster asked, what prompted authorities to do a canine search at a University that as far as I can tell, Chris Jenkins had no connection to and no reason to ever be at? Josh attended SJU.

Bloodhounds

A bloodhound found both Josh Guimond and Christopher Jenkins' scent at the university. On December 31, 2002, authorities were refused entrance to the campus monastery, then, on January 14, 2003 they were granted permission into the abby. Reportedly the dog picked up "definite scent activity with both boys but it was stronger with Josh."

Accused clergy remain at St. John's Abbey,
schools Abbot releases information to end 'culture of secrecy'
that aids abuse

ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Thirteen to 15 monks or priests live and work under restrictions at St. John's Abbey after being accused of or admitting to sexual abuse, the abbot for the monastery said.

The number represents about 7 percent of the 196 monks and priests affiliated with the monastery and nearby St. John's University, a preparatory school and a religious press.

Restrictions vary for the men, but they include keeping them off college or prep school grounds and out of university athletic facilities.

Abbot John Klassen, who has led the monastery in central Minnesota for 17 months, said he has been reviewing abuse allegations and wants to "clear the decks.''

He didn't offer a precise number of clergy who are restricted, in part because the types of cases vary. Klassen said the alleged victims were mostly boys ranging in age from 12 to 17, in incidents that took place in the 1970s.

. . . Klassen earlier sent a letter to St. John's University officials and students revealing abuse allegations against a former abbot, the Rev. John Eidenschink.

Klassen said he sent the letter because he wanted to put an end to "a culture of secrecy that makes sexual abuse and exploitation possible." He said the allegations had never been discussed, even within the monastery.

Eidenschink, who served as abbot from 1971-1979, was in poor health at the monastery and wasn't available for comment.

Klassen has made public eight other names: Cosmos Dahlheimer, Richard Eckroth, Finian McDonald, Brennan Maiers, Dunstan Moorse, Allen Tarlton, Fran Hoefgen and John Kelly.

Each has had "credible allegations'' levied against them, and -- except for Dahlheimer and Eckroth -- has acknowledged wrongdoing and sought treatment, Klassen said.

Definitely have to think about this one. I kinda remember the tv show. Want to ask my kids about it.

Oh, and as far as dreams go...I try not to remember them after I dreamed that Mike Barbiere was alive...when in fact he wasn't.

Oh, if only our reality could resemble our dreams. There so many faces I wish I could see.

I live near West Chester. I am confident that the burglaries are just people looking for drugs and/or money and/or stuff to sell to buy drugs. The rapes have mostly been date rapes. Not that this is a good thing, but I don't think we should expect any escalation.

The "spree" that has hit the news is really just a matter of enhanced reporting by the University of off-campus crimes against students. The other thing going on is that the locals have been complaining more and more about bad behavior of students - public urination, noise, parties etc.. I think the University is trying to point out that the students are often victims rather than perpetrators. The rate of crime is about the same as always. If the economy doesn't pick up, there will be more burglaries targeting students.

Oh, Suzi...thanks so much for posting that. I read that a while back, but didn't want to open that can of worms. The sudents were p.o. that LE was denied entry.

Luthersmama...how far is the school from Philadelphia? I don't think this kid driving around in the type of car he was had robbery in mind? Do you?

Also...do you think it will ever be revealed what "torture" Chris endured? Has there been any suggestion that the abduction was sexually motivated?

Temple is 21.3 miles/35 minutes from Swarthmore. This case is very curious to me. I don't think robbery was a motive here for some reason. He could have cracked the kid over the head and taken his wallet.

I found this statement to be quite interesting: The defendant, Tom T. Chiang, 28, of the 6100 block of Henry Avenue, was driving a tan, four-door 1997 Lexus when he stopped the student walking from the McCabe Library shortly after 2 a.m., and asked for directions to the president’s house, according to an affidavit of probable cause for his arrest.

I don't know why it stands out to me that he was asking for directions to the president's house. This ruse could mean that Chiang wanted this kid to associate him in someway to the president perhaps in an attempt to gain credibility to get him in the car?

While I don't know if this is connected in any way, it should be looked at by the two detectives as a possibility. Chiang fits exactly the type I have in mind for the drowning cases.

Thanks for posting this, Luthersmama. :)

A slow newsday or a lull in info is always a good time for me to go back and review. Which is what I'm doing today. The SJU Monastary has always bothered me greatly.

More on St Johns Monastary

http://www.vanceholmes.com/court/trial_missing_2.html

December 9, 2004

St. John's website officially advises that the character of the university is shaped by the Benedictine communities that founded the college: "By living according to Saint Benedict's Rule, members of the monastic communities cultivate love of God, neighbor and self through the art of listening, worship and balanced, humane living. They challenge students to embrace these values as well."

St. John's has also challenged the father of a student who, two years ago, mysteriously disappeared after attending a party on campus. The loving, balanced, humane folks at the university demanded Brian Guimond stay off their property or face arrest from Stearns County authorities.

Not that the Order of St. Benedict had anything to hide, mind you -- it's just that Mr. Guimond was upsetting all that listening, worshipping and embracing when he'd repeatedly visit the school looking for answers about his missing child, Josh.

Michael Hemmesch, a spokesperson for St. John's, insisted the flesh was willing. "We have continued to discuss, through Mr. Guimond's attorney, an out-of-court settlement," he said, "or a resolution to this matter out of court." Unfortunately, the spirit at SJU was weak and quickly worn-out by Brian Guimond's dogged determination. For a year, the school has held a restraining order against him.

Just as St. John's was about to have their loving values reviewed in a court of law, announcement came that a settlement had been reached.

Of course, the devil's in the details.

Josh Guimond's dad says the on-going dispute with the Order of St. Benedict about his visits to St. John's has ended. He says he now feels there is no legal order preventing him from going to the campus to continue the private investigation of his son's disappearance.

Stearns County Sheriff, John Sanner, feels differently. Sanner told reporters, as far as he's concerned, if Brian Guimond goes to the college campus without an escort to look for answers about his missing boy -- he will promptly be put in jail.

Having carefully cultivated the art of listening, I'm sure St. John's University can hear concerned parents in Stearns County, in the state of Minnesota, and all over the country saying, "IF THAT WERE MY CHILD -- NOTHING AND NOBODY COULD STOP ME FROM LOOKING FOR HIM."

"You don't just vanish into thin air," said Brian Guimond. "Somebody knows something."

Whether somebody on that campus is hiding information about the missing student has yet to be determined, but based on the treatment Mr. Guimond has endured -- God knows -- something is terribly wrong at St. John's University.

Absolutely vital info, though. I thought there was a restraining order against the dad (?). Whether there was or wasn't, the school's/church's attitude seems a bit extreme to me.

Question : If you suffocated someone then put them in water , would it appeared they were drowned during the autopsy?

Also...do you think it will ever be revealed what "torture" Chris endured? Has there been any suggestion that the abduction was sexually motivated?
There are all forms of torture. In the clips I found of people acting out the game Manhunt, one showed a scene of a college aged boy being bound and held in a building while being taunted about how they were going to kill him.

I don't think sexual abuse can be ruled out completely as the water would wash away DNA evidence (that is only providing there were no physical markings to indicate assault). I just don't feel sex had anything to do with it tho.
