This thread makes me wish I lived in a cabin in the woods in Alaska.

Don't know if this has been answered but does anyone know what is done with the protective suits, etc after removal? I'm thinking heavy hazmat suits that are probably expensive but maybe they are disposable??
 
I just heard this on CNN so I do not have a link. Anderson Cooper was showing an interview with the deputy's son. The son said that his father did NOT have any Ebola symptoms but was just not feeling well. The son went on to say that his father was a very cautious person. JMO, but I don't blame him for being cautious. Matter of fact, I don't even blame him if he is being paranoid.
 
Re: the dogs. I was wondering the same thing myself, as far as antibodies being used.

Aww, wanna come hang out in Louisiana? we got hundreds of acres and woods to roam and no one around for miles.

Yeah, I get what you are saying though. This is why I live as I do. I am like a hermit but such a super happy hermit. I just hate to leave home.
 
So it's been totally quiet since the Deputy arrived at the hospital, correct ? I sure wish they would update so we would know if it's only a belly ache. Something tells me if they are now contacting to monitor 6 of his contacts that it is more than a sore belly from a big lunch, right?

( did i see that in a previous comment about 6 of his contacts being monitored? tia )

Re the dogs and the antibodies, that is what I thought as well....and I am sure someone is on to that....

Have just caught up with this thread and I am feeling my stomach churn......last night I stayed up reading various forums from all over the world and everyone is feeling the same way about how this is being handled in western countries.........very slackly! Though as there is more and more cases of isolation and scares I think the game is going to get lifted very soon! I am just so shocked that they are still even letting people on planes from affected countries, and are just taking temperatures!! I mean really............

Maybe I have watched too many movies.

I am glad someone posted above about the other disease, Marburg, only 1 case so far, in Uganda.

Here is breaking news from Australia, about a guy vomiting blood on a plane. I am in two minds with this......the media have jumped on the bandwagon and reporting anything that could be linked to Ebola, or the authorities going the other way and not wanting to cause a panic.

If Bill Gates has donated $50 million and other countries would be chipping in, then how in the heck are bodies being dumped in the streets because the people are not being paid?????? And if that is a pic of one of the hospitals, then my lordy dee..

Come on Western governments and filthy rich people, now is the time to act on this, it is absolutely ridiculous!

If you watch the Frontline documentary on Ebola in Africa, you will see them spray down the suits with a bleach solution after exiting the hot zone.

I have seen photos where they appear to be wearing Tyvek disposable suits like the ones I used to use when working where radioactive contamination was a problem. These are worn once and then disposed of as hazardous waste. In the case of a biological hazard, they will be incinerated.

In either case, great care must be taken when taking off the protective equipment.

That is good to know. Someone was mentioning yesterday what a catastrophe (on top of the ebola) it would be if that gets out of control at the same time. I was wondering what the status was on it.

Maybe there needs to be some oversight on the funds being sent to these countries to ensure it's being used for its intended purpose. I wonder if the govt in these highly affected countries are as concerned for their population as the monetary donors are. It would not be the first time political issues held up much needed aid. IIRC, it was not long ago that a handful of aid workers assisting Ebola patients were killed by members of the population they were there to help. There's a lot of distrust of aid workers/outsiders, as well as disregard for instructions on how to keep from spreading the virus.

ETA: My point being, it would be ideal if the govt/humanitarian aid groups/population could all be on the same page and have the same purpose=Saving lives and stop the spread.

I agree about the summer heat. My dream is to live in Louisiana in the winter, and live the summer in Alaska. I lived in Alaska before and the summers are so gorgeous and the weather is so awesome and the sun shines about 18 hours a day.

The food in Louisiana is indeed awesome. So many yummy things here.
