Im sure he caught ebola from another source but this is interesting.

Their sense of an explanation, internally, is explained as follows - - "...health ministry sources say the doctor worked at least three other medical facilities in addition to Kissy Hospital."

And the following note further underscores that this is their thinking as to how he must have caught it - - "Bishop Yambasu told Kissy hospital staff before they went home Nov. 11, that only staff ready to relinquish working at other health facilities would be encouraged to stay when the quarantining ends in three weeks."

Five people have been confirmed as having Ebola and a sixth case is suspected, Hubert Balique, a French public-health expert consulting with the French embassy in Mali, told reporters yesterday. It’s unclear whether the girl whose death was reported today was one of those cases. Officials have identified more than 200 people who had contact with those individuals, and new cases will probably be confirmed in coming days, he said.

Nailed it.

"Wilbur said he withdrew from the nursing program because university officials – who told him there had been threats against him – refused to communicate to students that any harassment, threats or demonstrations against Wilbur would not be tolerated.

Wilbur said school officials pointed out that those acts were prohibited, and said they wouldn’t act ahead of Wilbur’s return to school to reinforce the prohibitions. Wilbur was concerned about the threats and also about potential silent protests, such as students getting up and leaving a room when he entered."

This is just proof to me that these two people feel some kind of entitlement. <modsnip>

Eric Duncan's family has reached a resolution with Dallas Presbyterian Hospital. In addition to setting up a charitable trust to help victims in West Africa, the settlement will provide for Duncan's parents & his 4 children. Louise, Duncan's fiancé does not benefit in any way & her son with Duncan did not even know a settlement had been reached on his behalf.

OMG, I could understand, excusing the hospital bill.

Did the nurses who cared for him get anything besides Ebola?

 Trash bin book IMO

I think most of us knew this was coming. The direct blood relatives got a hefty settlement from Presby and now Louise has a (maybe) lucrative book deal.

The damage done to Presby because of lack of full disclosure from patient zero when patient zero first presented there will never be undone, but the family and Troh will reap untold profits.

Why? When my mother died I was very angry and unhappy with the care she received the last 3 days of her life, but I still payed the hospital bill.

That's what responsible people do. I didn't like the outcome and didn't agree with the treatment she received, but I knew I had a financial responsibility for what medical treatment she DID receive.

I don't understand the sense of entitlement some people take for granted.

My reply was meant in more of " kind gesture" on the part of the hospital, I can understand.

I just have a problem with this "settlement" to take care of his parents and kids. Was he at the time of his death financially supporting his parents, kids? His 1 son is over 18. I just don't get this settlement.

And Louise was left out so now she will write a 1 chapter book " The greatest love story ever" We met, had a son, he came to the US many, many yrs later with Ebola, died of Ebola. Infected 2 nurses, scared a nation. The end
cha ching:puke: IMO

Thanks for clarifying, Irisha. I initially misunderstood the remark I replied to. I completely agree with you on your observations. :blushing:

Dailymail reports that Dr Salia may be the most critical condition ebola patient brought to the US yet. My prayers are with him.

I really hope they manage to help him pull through, but things sound incredibly serious for him. He seems to have deteriorated significantly between Monday when he tested positive and Saturday when he was flown to Nebraska.

This link has a couple of embedded interviews, one with Dr Salia and one with his son.

I disagree with your assumption. I doubt anyone has become wealthy, and suspect any walk-away money was relatively minor. This was a PR move for the hospital, avoiding a trial in which their downside was pretty small.
