Found Deceased Eliza & Henrietta Huszti, sisters both 32, CCTV captures them near a river at 2am, Aberdeen, 7 Jan 2025 #3

Saving up to buy property could be a very reasonable way to fend off pressure to travel home more frequently. Purely speculative, of course.
It's not an expensive undertaking to fly back to Hungary.
IIRC: It was reported that they went back home 2x.
Parents are known to fly their kids back home for visits.
It could be that the parents could never afford to do that?
I doubt we may never know much more,if anything, then what we know now about the sisters and their family.

The main interaction I’ve read about is the sisters buying spices in a Hungarian store, so they may not have integrated to make friends and improve language skills. From what I’ve read, it seems they pretty much just had each other in Aberdeen.
The police have said that they did have a social life.

I think people have got the impression that they didn't because not many have spoken to the media about them. It sounds as though few were willing to speak to the Hungarian tabloid reporter, and probably not to any others that were sniffing around.

I'd have thought it stranger if they didn't buy Hungarian spices!

My thoughts for sure. One main thing the brother mentioned in the very beginning....that "they were saving money to buy property in Scotland". Probably theh main thought the distant Hungarian relatives had all along.

This was such an easy way 1) to fend off worries from family back home that they were not doing well financially 2) to create reasons why they could not send monies back home to the family.

moo.

I’ve missed that about the social life, I’ll have a look back now.

I didn’t find it strange they bought the spices. It was just one of the only reports I’d read where someone (I.e. the shopkeeper) had something to say about the sisters.

On the previous thread, on the post where someone had translated the investigation of the Hungarian reporter, I think it was said that she cleaned a teen disco/club in the area - not the boat club.

<modsnip>

JMO etc
I agree, I think it's a big reach from "“Eliza would know the area where they went missing very well. She used to work for us down there.” There would be scores of properties around there.

I think the social aspect of their lives is somewhat muddled and confusing. It was reported they kept themselves to themselves and that they were homebodies. Police said they were leading normal lives and socialising as did their brother. Whether the brother actually knows or was just repeating what he'd been told is another matter. The Hungarian reporter said the local Hungarian community didn't know them. Not sure if anything at all has been said whether or not they had separate circles of friends. I know its also been said they did most things together.

It is possible that people from the local Hungarian population said they did not know the twins in order to avoid any further conversation with the journalist.

Yep, that's possible as well, although speaking to a fellow Hungarian they may have been a bit more open. Of course even the word "socialising" is quite vague and could cover a vast range of possibilities.

Is their father still living?
I have only seen references to the sister Edit, the brother Josef and their mother.

Has anyone seen anything that describes their childhood or upbringing or what made them choose Scotland and Aberdeen in particular?

It may also be the case they felt under pressure to appear to be doing well to their family and that was becoming unbearable.
It's possible, especially if their situation had deteriorated in recent months.
In some cases having to make the decision to ask for help or even move back in the home country as an expat can bring a lot of shame. (when it's perceived as a failure).
And it can happen that people just don't want to go back there, for personal reasons.

Tbf and MOO but there have been times in my life when $143 would have been a lot more than I could afford. When you are only just scraping by, and only just making it to the next pay check, you don't spend that much money on unnecessary trips, even if you had funds to spare.

And a "cheap flight" always comes with hidden costs - the transport to and from the airport in itself could be prohibitive, plus you can't necessarily afford - when you're living like that - to take time off work, as you might not get holiday pay and you can't afford to not get paid.

Not saying this is the situation they were in, but life just got VERY expensive and they both had minimum wage jobs which didn't necessarily afford them full time hours or employment perks.

This is JMO, why it's frustrating to me that we don't know more about their tenancy situation and whether or not they had been asked to leave prior to departing.
