Maybe she is going to talk about the fundraiser coming up next weekend at that tree farm.

Responding to the WW article? Responding to the news that Gresham won't join task force? I'm so curious.

I'm just giggling at the verbage. How does one hold anything impromptu, 3 hours in the future?

I agree. In reality, she has quite a drive to get to Portland in the first place. Secondly, I would surmise that she was in a meeting of some sort with LE prior to...but that's just me noodlin' and guessin'.

Maybe because there's still no task force?

“So, when their chief, with 100,000 people to protect and 100 officers to do it, says they can't afford the manpower for a task force, you can almost guarantee that Troutdale and Fairview, which are much smaller, cannot afford it, either,” he said.

Several other law enforcement agencies around the metro area said they are still undecided as to whether they could join the task force.

Hillsboro police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office all said they haven’t yet made a decision.

A spokeswoman for the Beaverton Police Department said, “At this point, we don't have anyone dedicated to it."

A spokeswoman for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said they are still in the process of forming the task force, and the group would be formed as soon as possible.

Someone open a new thread for the presser in case I don't make it home on time. :)

Sometimes the KATU link doesn't work for me, but I always have good luck with the KGW stream:

Plus they usually have a lot of "Oops, are we live?" moments before the conferences start and they usually stay live for a bit after the conferences, which catches some interesting questions, answers, behaviors.

My guess is she won't say much that is newsworthy. I agree that she probably had a meeting with LE and is merely taking advantage of already being here, to stand by the wall of hope and keep Kyron's name in the media.

Okay, I'm going to vote that Desiree is going to make a public appeal to the heads of the other PDs to each contribute a detective to the task force, immediately, so that they can find out what happened to Kyron.

Who's Gresham? What have I missed?

Gresham Police Decline From Kyron Task Force

With more than $1 million spent on the investigation, Sheriff Dan Staton said Sept. 15 the new task force would help redirect resources as the investigation narrows its focus. He said Multnomah County detectives would make up 30 percent of the team and outside agencies would provide the rest.

On Thursday, the Gresham Police Department confirmed it did not join, citing a lack of resources. Its officers said they were "forced to decline because we simply don't have the manpower."

“I think we're all grateful that (Portland Police Chief Michael) Reese has stepped up and offered help. The real tragedy is that the sheriff's office waited four months to ask Portland for assistance,” McCain said.

Can I just say how much Bruce McCain drives me nuts! This quote above is ridiculous. They didn't wait 4 months to ask for Portland Police help. They've been helping all along. They've only now formed this new task force and are asking each agency to dedicate a detective to it. Portland Police is able to do so within their budget constraints. Gresham cannot financially do it at this time. Why is McCain making this into something else....grrrr!

I'm guessing Desiree is going to say she is grateful for the new "focused" task force and is happy the direction the case is going. JMO

Thanks so much! But uh oh--it kinda feels like some LE are turning down reservations on the Titanic. Not good. JMO
