Any place I have ever been, if two people are in an argument and one throws a blow, unless it can be proven that there was provocation, it's assault. I'm not talking about mugging or rapes. I'm just talking about when two get into a shouting match and one starts throwing down or charging another individual, I don't see how that's not assault. At that point, isn't the other party in 'self defense'?

We're not just talking about two people who just happened to get in an argument.

Had GZ just called 911 and left it alone there would have been no argument. His choices initiated it.

Sorry you didn't like my analogies, lol, made perfect sense to me. :)

If George Zimmerman is not arrested in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin soon, the Rev. Al Sharpton will call for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions.

Sounds like Rev Sharpton is asking for RIOTS, imo.

If someone throws a punch at you first, it's not self defense? I'm just wanting clarity on what exactly is self defense if it's not that?

That is a very fair question in view of this insane law.
:moo: Punch first - is also self defense if you feel someone is coming
towards you in a very threatning way.

IMHO he is very good at that.

Sad but I do NOT believe dad's hearsay story at all, now a brother comes forward KNOWING (NOT) another hearsay story..........
I'm beginning to think that the "Z" family unit may have serious problems with story telling.
I would like to see also if GZ ever had a 'mental or emotional' problem. JMOO

How about a picket line? A sit in?

I'm a white female who sometimes puts my hood up when it's cold and rainey. All the racism in this whole case is truly disheartening. GZ put the whole who movement back about 60 years. I thought we had moved forward and wouldn't discriminate anymore. I'm saddened by all this tragedy. Trayvon is the victim. He's Dead. GZ isn't. Why would a neighborhood watch person carry a 9 mm gun and call 911 (as he had done many times before) and follow/pursue when LE told GZ NOT TO? Ego-trip maybe?

And why doesn't GZ have any signs of being in a conflict? Stand your ground? Me thinks not. Why is GZ in hiding? Just shows he's not much of a "man" unless he has a gun in his hands. Trayvon is dead. GZ is not.

Could GZ just be a coward?

BBM - I wonder if they're related to the Anthonys.

No just the opposite, she is invoking an exemption so that records that would normally be released to the public not be released.

Here's the story, and hey, if locals see stories on the Florida media, please link them here.

Note: It's hard to find specific stories on Google News unless you know someone's full name. I had to figure out that it was "Angela Corey" who is a state attorney. Anyone outside of Florida has probably never heard of her, and she isn't coming up much in searches for stories about Trayvon.

Links are our friends. ;)

Jacksonville Daily Record Story - Angela Corey Ends Public Information

The statement from Corey’s office:

“It has been one week since the Governor’s appointment of State Attorney Angela Corey, of the Fourth Judicial Circuit. Her team of prosecutors and investigators are diligently working to investigate the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

In the last couple of days, numerous media outlets have reported a variety of information from a variety of sources. Some of that information is protected by Florida’s public records laws, sections F.S. 119.071(2)(c)1 and 119.011(3).

At this time, we are asserting an active criminal investigative information records exemption for any documents, videos, or factual information regarding the case.

We appreciate both your interest in the case and the public’s desire to know more details. However, in order to protect the integrity of the case, there will be no further comment at this time.

I don't think it's Zimmerman that actively stirred the pot.

I have never heard a 911 operator give ORDERS called ORDERS to a 911 caller. The assumption is that, since the CALLER has called for help and instruction, they will do as they are told by the person they chose to call! Why would the operator NEED to issue ORDERS to someone? Plus, wouldn't that take a lot of extra time? I ORDER you to tell me what the person is wearing? This isn't Simon Says-it's generally more important than that and if I call 911 I'm pretty darn sure going to do what they tell me to do unless it's patently absurd.

IMO, the person saying "We don't need you to do that" was also kind of saying, "Bud, ain't your job...that's what we're for...I don't THINK so". I guess if I were the operator I'd be thinking "Strange dude, you're calling about a dangerous criminal and now you're gonna follow him-how stupid are you?"

To me the dispatchers tone and inflection made it very clear.

CNN) -- Here's a look at the timeline of events in the shooting of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida, and the ensuing uproar.

Sunday, February 26

About 7 p.m.: George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old neighborhood watch captain, calls 911 to report "a suspicious person" in the gated community called the Retreat at Twin Lakes. He is instructed not to get out of his SUV or approach the person. Zimmerman follows anyway, and moments later, neighbors report hearing gunfire.

About 7:10 p.m.: Phone records show Trayvon Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend around the time he spotted George Zimmerman. At a March 20 news conference, Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump says the girl hears someone ask Martin what he was doing and Martin asking why the person was following him. The girl gets the impression that there is an altercation in which the earpiece falls out of Martin's ear, and the connection goes dead, according to Crump.

About 7:25 p.m.: Martin is shot and killed while returning from a convenience store to his father's fiancée's home. The weather is rainy. Martin is unarmed and carrying a small amount of cash, some candy and an iced tea.

About 7:30 p.m.: Zimmerman tells police he shot Martin in self-defense. In a police report, Officer Timothy Smith writes that Zimmerman is bleeding from the nose and back of the head.

OOOOOO - good point. And yet they didn't check GZ's hands - no fingernail scrappings - nada, zero, zip, zlich.

If GZ had TM's dna under his nails - helps to prove a fight / serious altercation.

I'm past this "botched" investigation talk. This was completely covered-up. Not botched. LE knows protocol. CSI knows protocol. Detectives know protocol. None of which was followed right down to GZ's clothes.

You can't tell me this many people just "screwed up" - nope. This was covered-up. But why? At first - on the scene - nobody was aware of anything other than a shooting occurred and they had one dead. CSI comes in and starts the evidence gathering.

What is really going on here? How did everyone know to not do certain things? And where in the hello is Trayvon's phone?

At this point, I'm not sure we, as the public, will ever know what actually happened or what is the underlying deeper reason for this whole thing to have blown up like it has.

JMHO

BBM - Link to proof that they didn't do this please? Or are you just assuming they didn't?

But I ask again, why would so many LE cover this up? It would imply that a vast amount of the department was in on it, and I don't see the motive or rationale.
I've thought about that too. Just too many personnel involved. Here's what I come up with.

We haven't seen any reports. Only the "partial" report that was released and didn't contain a whole lot.

No statements, no evidence logs, (only evidence we've seen is the gun in that partial report), no EMT reports (not even leaked) on any injuries, no autopsy, nothing really.

So, I'm thinking all of that was done - or at least a good part of it. I don't understand why GZ's hands weren't bagged - just to preserve the powder marks, but that goes right along with the clothes. Anyway, the wheels were in motion for a "normal" investigation and forensic testing to take place. But, once Wolfinger, Lee and O'Connor decided "nope - not enough evidence - cut him loose" that only certain people went around and gathered up what had already been done and either boxed it or got rid of it. I'm leaning more to boxed and that's why Trayvon's phone was called a full 5 days later - someone found it in a box.

Either way - I don't think that many people are involved in the actual cover up - but it had to be high ranking people to be able to get their hands on the stuff - they had clearance and authority.

As for GZ physical evidence - clothes, hands, etc - it could have been as simple as someone telling a CSI - don't worry about this - I got it.

If this is what happened - those not involved know. I bet they are scared, worried, confused and not really knowing what to do. But I do hope one of them are brave enough to come out and tell - tell what happened, what they did - where the "stuff" went - what they were told to do, etc. Sadly though I don't think that will ever happen.

I wonder why now?

and was erroneous in his conclusions based on it which is part of why it is illegal for LE to use racial profiling. GZ may have been profiling "in good faith" in his mind which "knew" that there were lots of burglaries all done by young black guys and hey, look, a black guy and he's "suspicious" because ummm, he's walking and looking around, wait, he's on drugs, there's something wrong with him, he's up to no good etc. Those were all things he said and conclusions that were drawn based upon, IMO, very little actual evidence beyond Trayvon was young and black and male.

The problem with profiling is that it offers no, ZERO information about the likelihood of any particular individual committing a crime or doing something illegal. Behavior is a much better indicator than race. So, was it Trayvon's behavior or race that caused him to be suspicious. IMO, it was his race and I believe if a white boy had been doing the same thing as Trayvon GZ would not have concluded he was a criminal and thus set in motion the tragic events of that evening. I would feel differently if Trayvon had engaged in any behavior noted, at that time (and not invented now), as being actually suspicious, i.e., looking in windows, trying doors, checking out garage door opener panels, hiding in bushes while going from house to house. People can disagree but I think Trayvon's race was an essential aspect of GZ's conclusion that Trayvon was a criminal that needed to be apprehended and that if he didn't do something this a%$hole would get away just like all the others.

BASED on your post all black kids are suspect...But NO there are many black home owners in that community and it was not that GZ saw a black person NO...IF there were no previous robberies, I bet GZ would have just gotten his milk and gone home. Unless you think he is insane. PEOPLE DONT JUST SHOOT PEOPLE? unless they re nuts.
It was because there were 8 robberies that they CLAIM was done all by black people who did not live their.

GZ saw someone in the rain, (when most everyone stays in) who did not live there and he happens to also look like what they suspect the other robberies to have been caused by.

I'm trying to remain optimistic that we will find out the reasons why Zimmerman has received such preferential treatment, why the police department has behaved like they have in this case. I want to believe that because there are so many agencies involved that they will get to the bottom of all of this.

This complex is a lot bigger than I thought.. 260 units, and residents are black, white & hispanic. I don’t think Zimmerman could possibly have known all of the hundreds of residents in that place thus he couldn’t have known if Trayvon lived there or not, imo. I think reporting Trayvon as suspicious was just part of the act for 911, I pretty much believe now that he was going to kill this “black male” no matter what and for 3 probable reasons… 1. TM was black (slurs), 2. GZ obsession to be hero-cop & catch 1 of the “AH’s that always get away”, and 3. he couldn’t let Trayvon tell police the only emergency was GZ stalking Trayvon. JMO JMO
