You know what is driving me Nutz? We all know she had e-mails from Billy-O to CS in her car. Plus all flight info.Could it be Billy-O gave her these to set her off? And maybe even asked her to go and talk to CS.He then would be scene as a victim also.
I think that Lisa Nowak was his weekday girlfriend, and Colleen Shipman was his weekend girlfriend. Doesn't Colleen live in Orlando? I think that Billy-O was seeing both of these women; and Lisa sneaked and checked his emails (maybe he was in the shower) to find out who this "other" woman was. After she found out who she was, I believe that she began stalking her.

It is possible that Lisa developed an obsession all on her own, but I highly doubt it. This is a highly successful woman. I just do not believe that she would break up her family unless she had a relationship with someone else.

I believe that she is lying about the relationship because I think that she is trying to protect Billy-O. If it got out that they were having an affair, I really think that it would affect his career, too.

She didn't get to fly together with him though, I could see it happening in up in a rocket/shuttle or space lab away from the whole world...
They call that fornicating while floating in space--to think of it, it sounds pretty awesome.

Robochick, and Billy-O; the sex was said to be out of this world.

Good point since it was Nowak who mentioned to LE that the relationship wasn't romantic. As if trying to stave off the adultery charges from the military.

Even before she was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted kidnapping and three other crimes, there were signs that not everything was right in her life

UNTIL a few months ago, Lisa Nowak’s life seemed to be on a perfect trajectory.

She became an astronaut after winning a series of Navy service awards. She had flown on the shuttle Discovery, and was a mother of three children. She said in a September interview with Ladies Home Journal that her husband, Richard, “works in Mission Control, so he’s part of the whole space business, too. And supportive also.”

But even before she was charged on Tuesday with attempted first-degree murder, attempted kidnapping and three other crimes - all stemming from what police called a love triangle involving a fellow astronaut - there were signs that not everything was right in her life.
In a NASA interview last year, before her mission aboard Discovery, she spoke about the strain her career placed on her family. She has twin 5-year-old girls and a son who is 14 or 15.

“It’s a sacrifice for our own personal time and our families and the people around us,” she said. “But I do think it’s worth it because if you don’t explore and take risks and go do all these things, then everything will stay the same.”

In November, a neighbour reported hearing the sounds of dishes being thrown inside Nowak’s Houston-area home, and the police came. And weeks ago, Nowak and her husband separated after 19 years.

Police officers charged Nowak with trying to murder Colleen Shipman based on weapons and other items found with Nowak or in her car: pepper spray, a BB-gun, a new steel mallet, knife and rubber tubing.

Police found a letter in Nowak’s car that “indicated how much Mrs. Nowak loved Mr. Oefelein,” an arrest affidavit said. And Nowak had copies of e-mails between Shipman and Oefelein.
Then, according to police, Nowak donned a wig and trench coat, boarded an airport shuttle bus with Shipman and followed her to her car. Crying, Nowak sprayed a chemical into the car. Shipman drove to a parking lot booth and sought help. A police affidavit made public on Tuesday said Nowak had “stealthily followed the victim while in disguise and possessed multiple deadly weapons.”

The affidavit said the circumstances of the case “create a well-founded fear” and gave investigators “probable cause to believe that Mrs. Nowak intended to murder Ms. Shipman

I personally dont think a comment about a stressfull career and a few broken dishes equates to " there were sign in her life that everything was not alright"----- I am once again tired of the" we have it all, but have stress in our life..." excuses--I think the average joe, who lives paycheck to paycheck, works 2 jobs to make ends meet---would still be in jail after a stunt like she put into action, and I think imho-- if the victim would have given her a ride as she was asking for, there would have been a tragic outcome to this story-

Anyone have a picture of Shipman? Just like to see her competition.

T, I saw her military picture--surely there has to be a better looking picture of her somewhere.
I saw 2 pictures of her today, besides the military, that were, just...odd---
one she looked to be poising on a sidewalk , and the other looked like a professional, glamour shot type of picture, without all the makeup and clothing jazzed up-- I am really sorry I cant provide a link-- I read so many places about this today, it would take me a month to find them-

mo.....Mrs. nowak-- ( or is it mrs wacked)..is much prettier- neither here nor there- just an opinion

I agree that Colleen isn't all that pretty. However, I don't see Lisa Nowak as a doll, either. She is slightly more attractive than Colleen, IMO. I think Billy-O was using both of them.

Friend Points Out Astronaut's 'Mental Anguish'

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Feb. 7) - Lisa Nowak chose a juggling act of dauntingly high difficulty: to be an astronaut and a mother of three.

Her background - high school valedictorian, Naval Academy graduate, test pilot - seemed to equip her for the challenge. Yet as she and some of her acquaintances acknowledged, the stresses on her and her family were extraordinarily intense.

On Wednesday, transformed from space hero to criminal suspect, Nowak returned to Houston for a medical assessment, a day after she was charged in Florida with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping in what police depicted as a love triangle involving a fellow astronaut.

The woman viewed as a role model by the schoolchildren she often addressed was met on the tarmac by police and escorted into a waiting squad car. Her head was covered by a jacket. She was later released on bail, with orders to stay away from the other woman and to wear a monitoring device; she faced a medical exam at Johnson Space Center.

NASA, at a loss to explain what went wrong, said it would revamp its psychological screening process in light of Nowak's arrest. The review will look at how astronauts are screened for psychological problems and whether Nowak's dealings with co-workers signaled complications.

Nowak's children were with her husband, Richard, who works for a NASA contractor. She was being replaced as a ground communicator for the next space shuttle mission in March, a job in which she would talk to the astronauts from Houston during their flight.

I think it would be a good idea to give more than just a psych evaluation when they're hired and nothing from that point on unless a "red flag" is raised. It just seems to make sense due to their occupation and especially if they're about to go on a shuttle mission.

I remember a couple years back our neighbor was having an affair with a Jr.NCO he was her instructor (we are military) anyway his wife found out and tried to pursue charges of adultery. She could not do anything at all because she had no actual proof of them having sex. Basically she would of needed to produce video or pictures to prove it. Anything else in regards to adultery was he said she said and not going to stand up in court. She did divorce him and he kept his career and is now a drill sgt. married to the girl he was having the affair with. I don't know the complete details of this I just know what she told me.

...That said, if Billy-O was putting his iron in both fires he's contemptible...there's NO WAY he thought Lisa was single. Although this would not make him an adulterer in the strictest sense, if they were bumping uglies it does mean he was not innocent and certainly means he'll be in trouble with the military...Many missing facts...
I don't know, but common sense tells me that Lisa would not have gone to such extremes unless she were intimate with guy. I just do not see it. The truth probably will never come out as Billy-O and Lisa Marie would be in trouble with the military, as you say.

I wonder if authorities will check their computers because I bet there are intimate emails between the two. It will be interesting to see if the military actually pursues this case from their end.

Of course, he knew that she was married. They were coworkers. They just went to a training class in Canada. They were together for ten days out in the wilderness. I think that is when they got really close and hooked up. She separated from her husband a few weeks ago. That means that she separated from her husband right after she returned from that training class.

From my experience, as a former military wife, military personnel are very reluctant to show any kind of weakness or seek any type of help, especially psychological. They are so tied into their careers and very paranoid about doing anything that may keep them from getting the next promotion.

That being said, I think that this woman will set the 'women in space' movement back a great deal. Most of the male astronauts are able to hide their flaws. I guarantee you that their wives are good at keeping secrets. Take it from one who knows. ;)

so what you just said is how it goes? one evaluation, then the sky is the limit for them without another one? I'm not arguing--I am really aksing if that is the fact ?
perhaps I am out of line because I would have never suspected that is the way it goes working for NASA...and flying a shuttle to the spacestation---

" if they were bumping uglies"

I have never encountered this quaint expression before! Always something new to learn in life!

This gal is a nut case! Just a blessing that the victim here was apparently savvy enough NOT to open her car door to this demented woman. I believe she would have been killed on the spot if she had opened the car door.

Eddited to add: The correct saying is "Wham, bang, thank you, ma'm!" . David Bowie quotes it correctly in his song "Suffragette City".

Nan The training course was in 2004 Late winter. Right before His wife divorced him.

This is the article which states that NASA policy is to do a psychological assessment when astronauts join the space program, but they face no further evaluations during their careers unless issues arise during their annual flight physicals:

And this is the article which states that NASA will now review their psychological screening process:

wouldnt ya think a doctor for NASA could "spot" a psyological glitch, during the course of a physical? I wouldnt think their physical would be like yours or mine !!-- you know, a whole 10 minutes with the doc, then out to pay our bill !!
thanks for the links panthera-- interesting yet scary stuff !!!!!!!!!
