One year.
Still think of Christian and his loved ones often.
So many one year marks on cases I followed recently.
So sad. Praying for the families as they continue to grieve.

Happy Birthday Christian. You have not been forgotten. You would have been 20 years old yesterday.

<snipped> More than a year after the death of his 18-year-old son, Carlos Aguilar doesn’t let the 340-mile trip from Miami to Gainesville stand in the way of his search for justice.

Aguilar, 46, and his family made that trip for the eighth time Tuesday to attend a case management hearing at the Alachua County Courthouse for Pedro A. Bravo, the 20-year-old former Santa Fe College student and Miami native accused of kidnapping and murdering University of Florida freshman Christian Aguilar in 2012.

Alachua County Judge Ysleta W. McDonald held a hearing with Brian Kramer, assistant state attorney, and Michael Ruppert, Bravo's defense attorney, on Friday at the Alachua County Courthouse, where they agreed on the trial date and scheduled a pretrial conference for July 16, Lloyd said.

Was thinking of Christian and found this article.

Bravo case assigned to new judge; delay could follow

Alachua County Judge Ysleta McDonald is retiring at the end of June and will be replaced in the case by Alachua County Judge James M. Colaw for what is expected to be a two-week trial. That trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 4, said Darry Lloyd, spokesman for the State Attorney's Office.

Ruppert asked for one more case management hearing toward the end of June, closer to the scheduled pretrial hearing on July 16.

Carlos Aguilar said Thursday that he and his family are dissatisfied because the defense seems to be unprepared regarding witness depositions. Family members also are worried the trial will be delayed past Aug. 4, Carlos Aguilar said.

Aguilar's father, Carlos Aguilar, said on Wednesday that his family is happy that the trial will be not be delayed.

"We're confident that God will see to it that there will be justice," he said. "(The prosecutors) are confident from the evidence and the testimonies that they have the correct person, and thanks to that, we have a sense of relief."

What started as a search for a missing UF student has turned into a murder trial that begins next week. Two families have lost their sons: one was murdered, the other is being held in the Alachua County Jail as the lone suspect...

It's every parent's worst fear. "You wake up one day and you have your son next to you, you've got your family together. You know, everything is beautiful and perfect and the next minute it's a nightmare." Carlos and Claudia Aguilar sent their son, Christian, off to college at the University of Florida the summer of 2012; weeks later he disappeared.

Christian's family and law enforcement believed there was only one person who knew where he was.
