JMO, I don't see thinking playing a big part here. This was no kind of a rational plan. If they had thought about it they'd have realized they can't just lose a baby and tell a dozen different stories about it without eventually getting caught. It would have made more sense to say they gave Dontrell up for adoption or to move and cut ties with everyone who knew about his existence. The dozen different lies approach sounds more like people who live in the moment and put off dealing with things using whatever works for the moment, giving little thought to the consequences in the future.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Donjeta. Spot on. Just living in the moment.

A Broward judge determined Monday that there was probable cause for authorities to remove four young children from the grandmother of a missing Hallandale Beach baby boy.

<snipped>
The judge also told Mendez and her boyfriend that they have no visitation rights, and that they would be part of a criminal investigation.

OMG how long ago was the casey anthony verdict? vs how long ago would we guess that baby Dontrell has been deceased? Could it be they saw the verdict, figured they could get away with it and then acted? :( Ugh, hating to think it but honestly I hate to think about most things I read on ws :(

Both were very close to July of 2011. Maybe they figured they would get away with it by hiding the COD. I find it absolutely sick that Dontrell's 'disappearance' occured at the same time as the Anthony trial. :furious:

Quote:
At the time that Dontrell went missing, Sierra, Melvin and their children lived at 106 NW 1st St. with Sierra’s mother Mendez, her boyfriend and their kids, authorities said.

So more than just CM and BJS lived at the house?? I guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

I had thought that they moved in with the grandmother after he was already dead. If they were living in the same residence at the time it's hard to imagine them not knowing that something was very wrong. One day Dontrell was there, the next he wasn't.

So there were 7 children and 4 adults living in the home Dontrell 'disappeared' from. This just keeps getting worse....

I hope now that Sierra's siblings or half siblings have been removed from that house, they can provide LE information that will fill in some of the blanks. I can't imagine they were too young to know what was happening in that house. Though, probably too afraid to say anything while in the custody Sierra's mom and her bf.

I'm praying those children have the courage to share all they know. :please:

This is getting worse and worse. It sounds like at least one other adult deserves to be charged. How many adults knew this baby had disappeared and failed to do a thing about it? How could they be so callous about the death of an innocent child?

I hate to even think about what the other children in that home have suffered through or witnessed. I can only hope they are given the opportunity to be adopted by loving parents that will have the patience to help them process what they experienced at the hands of these monsters. Nobody in that twisted family should be allowed access to those kids. They have failed them enough.

I'm very curious to find out what she thought myself . Sickening is an understatement.,

Hmm so what was the babymama thinking about when her Dontrell disappeared? Probably something like........ " Well now i can go get that awesome tattoo I have been wanting and go get my nails done and not have to worry about icky diapers messing up my manicure. All that money I had to waste on diapers and food, I can spend on worthy things like lotsa tattoos and killer manicures. YES!!!! No more having to deal with a whiny cranky kid messing up me and my swag. Now I can get back to posting hot pics of myself on facebook.

DCF released a batch of records related to this case. At this link -

OMG :(
What a horrible life for any of them. I have to think that all things happen
for a reason and even as horrible and unimaginable as it is to try to figure out why a child's life may have been taken,, I am wondering now, after reading that ******** if Dontrell's life was taken so that these other children might live. Because it looks like a home where ANY child could have died on ANY day .
Now because of him there is finally a light shed on the inside of this dark, cruel family.

I'm finished with all the documents. I'm enraged. I don't have any words. Oh my God I'm so angry I can't stand it.

A child protective investigator revealed in court what occurred during supervised visitation this weekend.

“The father came to the visitation. He smelled of alcohol, and they were arguing," she said of Mendez and Hodges.

The judge in turn ordered Mendez and Hodges to have no contact with their children until the results of the criminal investigation, and said the parents would be part of the investigation.

After reading those files, it seems like DCF dropped the ball. In March 2011, if they would have put all the children's names down that lived in the house then someone would have noticed that Dontrell was not there in Sept. 2012. While I know that it still would have been to late for Dontrell, at least those other children would not had been subjected to those living conditions for an additional 4-5 months.

DCF: Cops should have filed missing persons report

An officer reported to the state abuse hotline in October that the mother said the father makes excuses whenever she asks to see the baby. According to a transcript released Monday, the officer said he didn't know the whereabouts of the child, adding the mother didn't know whether the baby was alive.

The Department of Children and Families did nothing with the call, saying they don't have authority to investigate missing persons.

The previous tenants, Calvin Melvin and Brittney Sierra, moved out of the house shortly after heir 5-month-old son, Dantrell Melvin, was last seen 18 months ago.

Britney's mother, Renee Menendez, was ironically in court Wednesday on an unrelated case. A judge decided her children would be taken away, too. Menendez cried as she left court and offered no comment.

So...They did NOT live in the same house with the grandmother when Dontrell went missing? It was a different house?

I'm confused.
