JUST IN: Affidavit for arrest warrant for Gloria Williams says she confessed to someone 1 1/2 yrs ago, saying she stole a baby from Jax

Affidavit also says Alexis Manigo (Kamiyah Mobley) was told 1 1/2yrs ago by Gloria Williams that she had been kidnapped from Jax hospital.

I wonder who turned Williams in to NCMEC? Sounds like more than a few people knew the girl was kidnapped for quite a while.

Here is the linked article that goes with your post. It gives further details from the affidavit:
The affidavit says the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for an anonymous tip in August 2016 saying Manigo had told a friend she was kidnapped as a baby. The tipster told police the victim was currently living under the name Alexis Manigo. The second tip, also to NCMEC, came in November 8[SUP]th[/SUP]. That tip said Williams had admitted to taking the baby from the hospital, renaming her Alexis Manigo, and raising her as her own in South Carolina.

I would like to see that affidavit.

But the 18-year-old told ABC's "Good Morning America" she still considers the woman now sitting in jail to be her mother.

Manigo declined to tell "GMA" how she found out she might not have been Gloria Williams' child, citing a concern that anything she says could be used against the woman she calls her mom, the program reported.

The judge set no bond for Gloria Williams, 51, on the charge of kidnapping and set bail at $503,000 for the charge of interference with custody, ordering her to appear again on February 8.'They want me to hate her, and it's not in me to,' said Manigo, who also noted how much it hurt to see Williams in cuffs.
'I will always love her.'

She also spoke about getting to meet her biological parents, Craig Aiken and Shanara Mobley, last week.

'I feel like I do owe them that, to give them a chance, get to know them,' said Manigo.

'When you find out you got another family out there, it's just more love.'

So, I wonder if they can charge the kidnapper with identity theft or some sort of identity fraud as well?

Teen Who Was Kidnapped as a Baby Knew About Abduction, Court Records Say

The South Carolina woman accused of kidnapping a newborn baby from a hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1998 allegedly admitted to the crime over a year ago, according to court documents obtained by ABC News. Moreover, the stolen child knew she had been abducted, the documents showed.

According to the affidavit for the woman’s arrest warrant obtained by ABC News, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received two anonymous tips last year from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The first tip, which authorities received on Aug. 8, stated that Manigo told her friend that she was kidnapped as a baby and is listed as a missing person. The tip also provided authorities with Manigo’s current name, according to the affidavit.

The second tip, which authorities received three months later, stated that Williams confessed to taking Manigo from a hospital in Jacksonville, saying she had renamed the girl and claims her as her daughter. The tip also stated the two were living in Walterboro, according to the affidavit.

The second article has info on the monetary settlement.
http://www.news4jax.com/news/kamiya...-i-team-learns-details-of-hospital-settlement

$1.5 million settlement, mother to get monthly payments of $3,644 through July 2020, or about $875,000 over the lifetime of the payout.
The settlement also stipulated that if Kamiyah Mobley was found alive on or before her 18th birthday and properly identified through DNA, a "$307,644 guaranteed lump sum payable on July 10, 2016."
In 2002, Shanara Mobley (at age 20) sold about half of her remaining settlement amount to a third party, Deborah H. Miller, in order to obtain a lump-sum payout of $437,000.

Shanara Mobley posted a message in a Facebook group, thanking everyone who has been supporting her through this journey. In the post, she said she had been confused and depressed since investigators announced finding Kamiyah Mobley, who has been going by Alexis Manigo, on Friday in Walterboro, South Carolina.

"The tears won't stop," Shanara Mobley said in the post. "I see my baby girl wanting this lady in her life and not me." Many people overwhelmingly responded to the post giving their support to Shanara Mobley.

This is such a heartbreaking situation. I do wish that SM wouldn't have posted the comment she did directed at AM (BBM). After all, AM is still so very young and none of this is her fault. It's unrealistic to expect this young lady to be able to form bonds with her bio-family without time, patience and a whole lot of love. They are all in my prayers.

As more info comes out the more I would like to slap this selfish kidnapper silly, among other things that I won't post. This woman created such havoc & upheavel in so many lives - no one involved will ever be the same.

I almost hate to mention it but I am so concerned that there will be a fight over the settlement $$$ down the road. I hope I am wrong.

Alexis will come around to her momma. All of them really need to stop taking this to social media, though. The media is having a field day with the drama.

Just a gut feeling that this was going to get ugly.
If there's $$ to be paid out to Kamiyah on her 18th birthday ---one would assume it hasn't been paid out yet.

Hoping she can bond with her bio family and someday forgive the abductor.( wouldn't blame her if she didn't. )

This young lady may struggle with issues for the rest of her life. :( (hope not, though)

Hoping she can emerge from this and be able to have a full and happy life !!!!
Could she file her own suit against the hospital?

Could she file her own suit against the hospital?

I wonder what damage she could claim. She says she's had a good upbringing and love. That leaves out pain and suffering. Would she have to repudiate her kidnapper Mom In order to file a suit? I don't know. It's really complicated, isn't it.

Well, her childhood was stolen. Her relationship with her mother and father, siblings, grandparents. I think she very clearly has been damaged by the hospital's negligence, and there certainly should be *compensatory* damages as well as *punitive*. Pain and suffering dunno, depends on how the law is written in Florida. IANAL and all that.

My thinking is that she clearly has grounds to sue; my question was more relating to the settlement her mother received from the hospital. It sounds like that settlement was meant to cover her as well, since she would have received $ if she had been found prior to turning 18. But now, she's over 18, can she be bound to the settlement agreement between her mother and the hospital? Or can she still file her own lawsuit? She received nothing from the original settlement, so I would think she hasn't been legally "made whole" and should be able to file her own suit... but, again, IANAL..

Any lawyers in the house?

With 'daughter' watching, woman pleads not guilty to 1998 abduction

http://www.news4jax.com/news/woman-accused-of-kidnapping-kamiyah-mobley-due-in-court

A woman accused of kidnapping a newborn from a Jacksonville hospital in 1998 and raising the girl as her own daughter came face-to-face with that girl Wednesday morning.

Gloria Williams waived her right to a speedy trial in a Duval County courtroom, where Kamiyah Mobley, the girl she raised as Alexis Manigo for 18 years, made a surprise appearance.

When Williams walked in, Manigo gave a big smile and Williams smiled back.

Williams pleaded not guilty to one count of kidnapping and one count of interference with custody. She will be back in court on May 30.

In Justice's article (Thank you for posting), there is talk of competing interests. Those being Kamiyah and her bio parents.

I hope the prosecution doesn't forget the interests of the public. It was our tax money spent to search for K all those years ago. (Not to mention all the tears that were shed.) Plus they have to consider the message it sends to the next woman who wants to snatch a baby. moo

Woman accused of kidnapping Kamiyah Mobley back in court - May 30th

http://www.news4jax.com/news/woman-accused-of-kidnapping-kamiyah-mobley-back-in-court

Gloria Williams appeared before the judge in Duval County in a very brief pretrial hearing. The court is working on procedural issues hoping to set a trial date in the near future. The judge said she would like jury selection to begin in October or November.

Williams is set to be back in court June 26. She could face life in prison if convicted.

Here's a recent in-depth article that covers most of the information that has been revealed so far in the case:
