The gunman who murdered at least 50 people in a Florida nightclub early Sunday morning was a follower of a controversial gang leader-turned-bank robber who was released from prison last year despite warnings from prosecutors that he would recruit people to carry out violent acts, sources told FoxNews.com.

Omar Mateen, whose bloody siege inside a packed Orlando gay nightclub ended when SWAT teams stormed the building and killed him, was a radical Muslim who followed Marcus Dwayne Robertson, a law enforcement source said.

Why no updates from the hospitals yet? With 53 injured - that's a lot of people and yet no updates as to good condition, critical condition, etc.

I heard on an Orlando news stream earlier that the hospital asked families to stay home tonight. It sounds like they have their hands full. A doctor spoke during an earlier press conference and said "many are critically ill" and that he thought the death toll would rise. (Noted here.)

<modsnip>Brian Williams is on air being confused about the fact that the murderer was there at 930 drinking and how he hid is weapon

It was in his car dude, no he was not hanging out for hours with an A47 on his person.

We all know his car was parked very close -- how can they be confused

A radical Muslim. Thanks for the link. Looks like I need to find out more about this Marcus Dwayne Robertson person.

I think that a terrorist attack at Disney World or Disney Land would be a measure above what we saw last night.

I wouldn't put it past Islamic terrorist's to do it. A very high value target like Disney equals much more gain in the goal they are trying to achieve. JMO

A measure above...how? 50 people have been killed! Unless you are saying it would claim more lives, how would it be a measure above? If your saying it's because the victims of this attack tonight were mostly gay and/or transgender, then unfortunately I agree. To a lot of people, just two people killed at Disney would be considered worst than the loss of 50 people at a LGBT nightclub.

ETA: Those types of views allowed this attack this happen.

Anyway, why are we talking about hypothetical terroist attacks when the biggest mass shooting, 3rd biggest terrorist attack just happened?

If someone I knew committed an atrocity I would know never to speak to media because for some reason people turn on the family and friends of the accused, even if they were also victims of this person, like this poor woman was!

I don't think people on here are turning against her. There is no reason to. She was extremely sensible IMO to do a media conference now so the media will hopefully not continue hounding her (well as much as they would have if she had kept quiet). I have no doubt she is in some shock and the media wanting answers probably led to her saying what she did, but what she said is probably more motivated by her current 'work' and her own beliefs that she kept referring to, than informed knowledge of what her ex-husband was thinking in recent days/months/years. I just don't place much credibility on her understanding of why he did this, given she has had no contact with him for so long. It is nothing personal against her or her experiences whilst she was married to him.

There should be another one in there somewhere. You also said that many go to the bars and then return home to a spouse and kid. I just was implying, that the reason it is taking so long to identify the victims is a few fake names are in the picture, here. :wink ( and yes, I'll post the link)

Hall said many people are having trouble locating victims because they are being listed under fake names.
Please forgive me for the stupid question: Do we know why fake names were being given? I read the whole article that was linked & I still can't figure it out! I did notice one of the victims listed at the website providing updates after first of kin is notified was noted to be 20 years old. So I'm wondering if other victims were under 21, and potentially were carrying 'fake' IDs so that they could get into the club? Not judging if anyone did--I had an older friend's sister's ID who looked a lot like me (but was 6 years older) before I turned 21. I am probably missing something obvious, however.

Here is Marcus Dwayne Roberson a.k.a. Abu Taubah ranting about homosexuality, he even complains that if Muslims don't pretend to accept it they can be deported etc...

There have been no blood changes as a result of today. Howver the FDA recently changed it to this

  1. Defer for 12 months from the most recent contact any individual who has a history of sex with a person who: has ever had a positive test for HIV, ever exchanged sex for money or drugs, or ever engaged in non-prescription injection drug use.
  2. Defer for 12 months from the most recent transfusion any individual who has a history of receiving a transfusion of Whole Blood or blood components donated by another person (allogeneic transfusion).
  3. Defer for 12 months from the most recent exposure any individual who has a history of through-the-skin contact with the blood of another individual, such as a needle stick or blood contact with an open wound or mucous membrane.
  4. Defer for 12 months from the most recent tattoo, ear or body piercing. However, individuals who have undergone tattooing within 12 months of donation are eligible to donate if the tattoo was applied by a state regulated entity with sterile needles and non-reused ink. Individuals who have undergone ear or body piercing within 12 months of donation are eligible to donate if the piercing was done using single-use equipment.
  5. Defer for 12 months after completion of treatment any individual with a history of syphilis or gonorrhea or with a history of diagnosis or treatment for syphilis or gonorrhea in the past 12 months.
  6. Defer for 12 months from the most recent contact a man who has had sex with another man during the past 12 months.
  7. Defer for 12 months from the most recent contact a female who has had sex during the past 12 months with a man who has had sex with another man in the past 12 months.

I don't want to minimize this horrible attack but I also feel that a similar attack at Disney World would garner much more attention. ISIS knows this. Be prepared America. JMO

Ok - in an effort to further educate myself I actually clicked on the play button of the guy above (ranting about homosexuality)
I got as far as him calling Sponge Bob gay and that was it. Enough.

Why is there just so much hate in this world today?

JMHO

many people are stating their opinions (which is fine) very strongly, sounding as if their minds are made up about certain things that we still dont have enough information about.

i would caution against doing that, saying things like "this was NOT terrorism", "he was NOT mentally ill, he knew exactly what he was doing".

to me, those seem like the kinds of statements that will get you entrenched in a position and less willing to be open to changing your mind when more information comes out.

I am not impying anything. It has been what 18 hours, this is not a plane crash- why would it take so long to identify people.

Crass yes, but intact victims??

Oh fu$k MSNBC is doing a adapt a pet commerical where it (I turned if off) shows all these poor doggies that need a home

Tacky now IMO

I don't know if I made it that far or not... I couldn't understand half of what he was saying.

I was recently told if you've had a tooth implant (using cadaver bone) prevents one from donating blood for one year.
I would assume if they used synthetic bone or took your own bone for the surgical tooth implant process, you'd be ok for that particular parameter.

And not all tooth implants need a bone graph. I have two tooth implants and I was lucky, no graphs. But I still can't donate blood because of the prevalence of Mad Cow disease during the time I lived in Germany.

Gay Blood Ban Still in Effect in Orlando ...

While there have been reports that OneBlood lifted the restrictions on gay and bisexual men donating blood, the organization refuted the claim, tweeting: "FDA guidelines remain in effect for blood donation. There are false reports circulating that FDA rules were being lifted. Not true."

If anyone can provide an MSM link to the contrary, please do so.

Scratch the word if in there. Once you obtain citizenship you are an American citizen unless you renounce your citizenship.

My sense is he was born here in NY - he did not apply for anything- a natural American citizen
