So tired of hearing about all these tests “coming” and hearing the mantra about FL is one of the “great” stories...
Florida coronavirus update for Saturday: DeSantis, Orange County leaders discuss state’s reopening plans
DeSantis said Saturday that hundreds of thousands of antibody tests are on their way to the state to help health workers determine who has already had the disease, in some cases without knowing it. “It’s just important information for us to know,” he said.
He discussed plans to expand testing at Walgreens, CVS and Walmart locations. He also said the state Department of Health will deploy a mobile RV lab that can, for instance, travel to an elder-care facility and provide test results in an hour or less.
The governor’s remarks came as the state began
naming nursing homes and assisted living facilities where deaths have occurred. Three facilities topped the list with 13 resident deaths. Each also had one staff member succumb to the disease. They were in Suwannee, Pinellas and Manatee counties.
(Orange Co Mayor) Demings reiterated Saturday that the county expects shipments soon of PPE and sanitation items including masks, purchased with federal CARES Act money, so local businesses can reopen safely.

(Desantis) “The positivity rate in Orange County yesterday was 1 percent,” he said Saturday as he touted the county as “one of the great stories” considering how much tourism the region drew until a few weeks ago.

Florida is among many states that are falling short of the minimum levels of testing suggested by the federal government and recommended by a variety of public health researchers, but has said it will be able to test 30,000 to 40,000 people a day if needed.

Meanwhile, Florida’s unemployment assistance system continues to be overwhelmed by the sudden and dramatic spike in claims. The system has had a history of problems and buckled under the stress of hundreds of thousands furloughed and laid-off workers seeking assistance.
The result: Florida has lagged behind most states in making payments to workers who needed them to pay their rent or feed their children.
