Authorities said they want to talk to specific people who may unknowingly be associated with the person responsible for the death of 7-year-old Somer Thompson.
“These changes include leaving the area unexpectedly for a seemingly plausible reason; missing work or disappearing during the night of the kidnapping; an unnatural interest in the investigation; a sudden change in appearance, like growing a beard or shaving their head; or a noted increase of nervousness,” Beseler said.

Sheriff asks community to notice certain changes in someone's behavior,
Story updated at 6:23 AM on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009
<snipped>
The apprehension of a suspect in the death of Orange Park's Somer Thompson could hinge on a haircut, or a sudden unexpected trip.
Today Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler asked people in the community to be on alert for those and other changes in the personality or actions of those they know.
Ten changes or scenarios that might be significant include:
— Leaving the area unexpectedly for what seems a very plausible reason.
— Missing work or other routine engagement, particularly on the evening or night of Oct. 19.
— Unexplained injuries, such as cuts or bruises on the head, hand or arms.
— An unnatural interest in the state of the investigation.
— A noted increase in nervousness and irritability.
— Sudden shaving of facial hair, haircut, or the growth of a mustache or beard.
— No longer operating their personal work vehicle for no obvious reason.
— An increase or decrease in the expression of religious beliefs.
— Changes in routine sleep patterns.
— Changes in the usual levels of alcohol, drug or cigarette use.

Solving the Somer Thompson Murder: Investigators Leaning on Community
Oct. 29, 2009
<snipped>
"I'm a strong believer that the community is an incredibly underrated and important resource for solving crimes, especially when the crimes are fresh," forensic psychiatrist Dr. Michael Welner told "Good Morning America" today. "You get the public mobilized to say ... 'What do you remember?'"
Welner said the killer likely falls into one of two categories of pedophiles. He said there are visible pedophiles -- the people who are known to associate with children through coaching sports and volunteer work -- and the pedophiles you don't see. Pedophiles you don't see tend to behave normally in front of the public and have normal sexual relationships.
"Clearly there is a distinction between the pedophiles you see and the pedophiles you don't," Welner said. "The pedophiles you see may violate the children again and again and again. And the pedophiles you don't see violate and destroy."

Parents at a public park near Somer's home were keeping a close watch on their children Tuesday afternoon. They all knew a child killer could be hiding in their neighborhood.
"It seemed like a real tight knit community and to have something like this happen so close to home, it is unsettling," said Brad Jacobs, who was there with his two kids.
