Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 2

11:25: The hearing resumes

A third ex-girlfriend of N. Lelandais testifies. Her relationship with the accused lasted one year and seven months. "He also attacked me. After the break-up, he tried to kill me. I filed a complaint against him twice."

11:35: The witness details the evolution of her relationship with the accused
"When we first met. We had a lot in common, animals, spirituality. He was very open. I took the time to get to know him, it was a serious relationship.
Their relationship really ended in March 2017. "I found out then that he was taking drugs every day and that he was cheating on me".
The witness explains that she had initially hesitated to leave him for fear that N.Lelandais would commit suicide. She also claims that he was violent with her.

11:45: Harassed by Lelandais until his arrest

The witness then explains that she was harassed for months and that it ended with the arrest of N. Lelandais in the Maëlys case. The president of the court asks her if she was influenced by what she read in the media? She answers: "I filed my complaints before the Maëlys case and his arrest."

She describes a lying and manipulative man, who frightened her after their break-up.

11:55: Lelandais and his pathological lying side

The president asks the witness if she projected herself in her relationship with the accused. "Yes, it was a serious relationship. I didn't consider him to be like a future husband, but it was serious," she said.
The president asks her why she stayed with the accused for so long if the relationship was not satisfactory? She replies: "I didn't have high expectations except for the first three months. I mainly saw the common points such as the love of animals".

She insists on the pathological liar aspect: "When I met him, he told me he was a French Thai boxing champion and that his father was a doctor."

12pm: "I found myself in full face on YouPorn", the witness victim of revenge *advertiser censored*

She was also a victim of 'revenge *advertiser censored*' that she attributes to N.Lelandais: "I found myself full face on YouPorn in a video that he had shot."

She also described anxiety attacks: "He told me it was because of the army, that he had seen dead people."
About the family of the accused, she speaks of "a madhouse. I always thought that only the sister was normal".

12:18pm: The witness, in tears, feels guilty for Maëlys

Questioned by Me Boulloud, the witness in tears, says she feels guilty for little Maëlys, the facts of harassment that she accuses N.Lelandais having occurred during the summer of 2017. She said she had thought of setting up a trap for N. Lelandais at that time before changing her mind.

12.40pm: Witness questioned about Lelandais' cocaine consumption

Thérèse Brunisso, the public prosecutor, firmly questions the witness: "What was his cocaine consumption at the time? Because your versions have changed." Answer: "It was occasional for me at the beginning and in December 2016, I understood that he was taking it every day."

The public prosecutor wants to know if these are deductions and assumptions of the witness or if she was a direct witness of this consumption.
The witness maintains her statements, but she did not directly witness the daily drug taking.

The public prosecutor informs the witness that her complaint in the summer of 2017 against the accused was dismissed.

Mr Jakubowicz now questions the witness.

12:50pm: The witness has "a strong desire to vomit" after reading a love letter written by Lelandais

- The defense: "Your relationship, it was a relationship of intense love? "
- Answer: "Yes, if you say so."
Mr Jakubowicz takes out a love letter written by N. Lelandais. He reads it out. It is a carefully written letter, with words that are sometimes clumsy but whose sincerity seems obvious. The unease is real. The letter is a world away from the image of N. Lelandais that the witness has given since the beginning of her deposition. "You think that many women have received such letters?" Me Jakubowicz asks.
Answer: "I had never read it. I just skimmed it. Now that you have read it, I feel like throwing up."

13:00: The defense destabilizes the witness

The defence intends to show that the witness was a jealous woman because after she broke up with the accused, she had investigated him.

Mr Jakubowicz returns to the question of violence and the episode where N. Lelandais would have terrorized the witness in a forest with a chainsaw. "This forest is a place where you used to go and where a heart was engraved with your initials on a tree? "
Answer: "Yes."
The defence: "He had come to remove this heart because it was not needed anymore."

Answer: "He was not obliged to go there on the same day as me and a stone would have been enough to erase the heart.

The defence destabilises the witness. For Mr Jakubowicz, N. Lelandais never tried to kill her. He blames the media for giving credence to her testimony. The atmosphere is tense.

13:05: The former male lover of Nordahl Lelandais is called to the stand

It is now the former lover of Nordahl Lelandais who will testify. He is a man of 30 years, summoned at the request of the Attorney General. They had met via a dating site and were meeting on the site of Lake Aiguebelette.

13:12: "A scenario of kidnapping for sexual purposes", the intimate details of the former lover of Lelandais

"I was perfectly willing. We met at the toll booth. He put me in the boot of his car. There was a scenario, at my request. He had to be in military uniform." The two men had agreed on a scenario of abduction for sexual purposes with N. Lelandais in the role of the dominant, dog handler. The two men then had sex by the lake.

The atmosphere in the courtroom is heavy.

13:20: Tough questioning for the witness

The president of the court asks the witness for details of N. Lelandais' sexual preferences.

The witness explains that he wore a latex outfit during their encounters. Both men used accessories such as handcuffs or a leash. They were also taking cocaine. They filmed their lovemaking.

The questioning is stressful for the witness.

13:30: Messages exchanged between the two men on 11 April 2017, the day of the murder

On 11 April 2017, the day of the events, the two men had exchanged messages about a date.
Between October 2016 and August 2018, they exchanged 800 messages.
The two men saw each other exclusively for sexual purposes. Their message exchanges were very explicit.

13:35: At the time, the witness did not feel "in danger"

On the day of the murder, April 11, 2017, he had not followed up on Lelandais' request for a meeting because he was having dinner with friends.

The president asked the witness if he could give any insights into Lelandais' personality? "At the time I had certain fantasies and he responded to them. I didn't feel in danger, I didn't perceive that he was a dangerous person. With hindsight, I lacked the necessary judgement."

The president told the witness that N. Lelandais was also seeing a couple of married men.

13:40: The witness bursts into tears

Mr Boulloud also questions the witness about his sexual practices with N. Lelandais. He specifies that the Noyer family does not make any association between him and the accused. The witness bursts into tears: "I am really sorry for them."

The defence now asks its questions. The witness confirms that he thought the accused was 'a loser'. "But I did not sense that he was unhealthy."

Mr. Jakubowicz: "Everyone understands the difficulty of the task you have been asked to perform. Why do you consider that you lacked judgement? "
Answer: "Because I might have ended up like Corporal Noyer."

13:48: The hearing is suspended until 3pm.

Le Dauphiné, Liveblog Day 2, afternoon

2.45pm: Will Lelandais revise his version of events?

Suspended just before 2pm, the hearing is due to resume at 3pm.

This afternoon, Nordahl Lelandais will be called to the stand to give his version of the events of the night of 11 to 12 April 2017, the night of the murder of the young corporal. Since his confession in March 2018, the former soldier insists to have killed him in an "accidental" way, evoking a fight that would have gone wrong.

15h10: the hearing resumes in Chambéry

There are still two witnesses of the morning to be heard before addressing the investigation and the facts.

15:17: Another ex-girlfriend on the stand

It is a fourth of his ex-girlfriends who testifies: a 54-year-old woman met in 2016 via a dating site. "He was correct with me. I have nothing to reproach him with. I think I was the last one to believe what he had done.

15:30: Lelandais told the witness that his name was Jordan

He had told the 50-year-old that his name was Jordan. They also saw each other around Lake Aiguebelette. "We were friends, we talked a lot. The witness explained to the court that she had thought of getting pregnant with his child at the time.

N. Lelandais was seeing several women at the same time at that time in 2016.

15:45: A former acquaintance questioned in turn

A new witness testifies in court. It is a 36-year-old man who has known N. Lelandais for 20 years. The two friends used to go out together a lot when they were young: "And our lives turned different ways. We had families and children. He did not."

4pm: "He told me that if one day he had a body to hide, he would put it here.

"We were good friends. But he remained stuck in his teenage years. We called him 'good life' because he didn't work. He lived with his parents and he always found good excuses."

- The president: "His character? "
- Answer: "Characteristic and impulsive. He could lose his mind over nothing. Six months before the affair, we had a coffee. I said to him, 'How's life? He lost his temper and I left."

"He used to come to my house and I really regret it. My daughter was three years old. "(he specifies that he has no proof that anything happened with his child).

One day while fishing, they had come across human bones. "He told me that if one day he had a body to hide, he would put it here. The president then asked him: "Did he really say that or did this sentence come to you afterwards with the background?" "Yes, he really said it," the witness assured.

16:10: After 11 April 2017? "I didn't see any change. As if nothing had happened"

The president asks him if he ever saw Lelandais fighting. "Yes, in the dancings, it happened. But he never took on someone stronger than him.

Mr Boulloud asked why, when they were friends, he did not entrust his daughter to him? "She was three years old and still a baby. Nordahl was not mature enough to look after her.

- Me Boulloud: "How was he before 11 April 2017 and after that date? "
- Answer: "I did not see any change. As if nothing had happened."

The defence asks the witness if he can confirm that N.L. used cocaine a lot? "Yes, yes," he confirmed.

16:15: Nordahl Lelandais will be invited to give his version of events first

The director of the investigation will now testify in court. Nordahl Lelandais is invited by the president to give his version of the events first.

Le Dauphiné, Liveblog Day 2, afternoon

16:30: Nordahl Lelandais gives his version of what happened on the night of 11 to 12 April 2017

"That evening I was in Chambéry. As I was leaving I saw a young man on a roundabout. He signalled me to stop. I opened my window. He asked me to give him a lift to Saint-Baldoph. I said yes. It wasn't a big diversions. On the way, he told me about his stolen phone from a nightclub. When he arrived in front of the socio-cultural centre, he asked me to drop him off. A friend had to come and he had to go back to Chambéry to explain to those who had stolen his phone. I told him: "It's no use, go back to your friend". When he went out, he left his phone in the car. And he said to me: 'Oh, you stole my phone'. I said no, but he punched me and then punched me again. I hit him back and I'm fighting. At one point he falls backwards knocked out. I don't really react at the first moment. I walk towards him and I feel that there is no more movement from him. I put my ear to his mouth, my fingers on his carotid artery and I don't feel any pulse... (he takes his time). I decide to give him CPR but there is no reaction. (he marks a long silence). I don't know what to do. I go to my car, I sit in it. I decide to go back to him, he still does not respond, I try again with cardiac massage. I go back to my car and decide to put him in my boot. I got behind the wheel and started driving without knowing what I was doing, on the back roads. I was looking for a place to dump the body. I passed a road where an ex-girlfriend lived and I mechanically took this road to Saint-Baldoph. Once up there, I didn't do much, I couldn't leave the body. (He looks at the portrait) Sorry, Arthur, I know you're facing me. I'm sorry for your family who must be very upset but I'm telling the truth. I got back in the car and I drove towards Saint Jeoire. And I took the ascent to Curienne and then towards La Thuile."

16:35: Lelandais continues his story

"I drove without knowing where I was going and at one point in a sharp bend, the first or the second, I stopped and I deposited the body of Mr Arthur Noyer in that place. Once the body had been deposited, I set off again along the Montmélian road and afterwards I am unable to tell you exactly how I returned home.

4.50pm: Nordahl Lelandais maintains his version of the fight that went wrong

Nordahl Lelandais has not changed the version he gave to the investigating judges. He maintains that it was a fight that went wrong and that it was Corporal Noyer who attacked him.

Le Dauphiné, Liveblog Day 2, afternoon

16:55: The lawyer of the civil parties reacts to the version of the facts delivered by Nordahl Lelandais

"Now will come, for him, the most difficult part!" according to Mr. Boulloud.

5pm: The hearing resumes. The director of the investigation of the gendarmerie of Chambéry will testify at the bar.

17:04: Who was in charge of the investigation into the disappearance of Arthur Noyer?

The investigation section of the gendarmerie was assigned to the case on 19 June 2017. It was the investigation brigade that had begun the investigation following the disappearance of Corporal Noyer on 12 April 2017.

17:15: The gendarme of the investigative section returns to the beginnings of the investigation

The gendarme of the investigation section retraces the evening of 11 to 12 April 2017 when Arthur Noyer had gone out to party with his friends in downtown Chambéry.

The gendarmes had traced the route of his telephone line to Saint-Baldoph and had viewed the CCTV images.

A specialised dog had followed the trail of Arthur Noyer through the centre of Chambéry to the Place Paul Chevallier.

The gendarmes had carried out an extensive search. Divers had sounded all the waterways up to the Lac du Bourget.

All these searches were in vain.

Interviews with family and friends and his army superiors revealed nothing significant: "He had no reason to desert or to kill himself," according to the gendarme.

17:30: "It is the disappearance of Maëlys, which put us on the trail", the director of the investigation tells how they are traced back to Lelandais

The director of the investigation now enters the details of the telephone investigations. At the time, the four operators had communicated the theoretical coverage data of all the relays between Chambéry and Saint-Baldoph. "There were more than 50,000 numbers over the period between 3 and 6 am."

On 7 September 2017, a human skull had been discovered by a walker in the forest under the Col du Marocaz. It was identified by DNA in December 2017. The rest of the bones were found in January 2018.

On the CCTV of the evening of the events, there were about fifteen covering the whole night in Chambéry. The gendarmes had noticed an Audi A3 vehicle. The gendarmes had identified 2900 A3s that could correspond in Savoie. The investigators had then focused on the owners.

The Lelandais hypothesis. "It was a news item in the press, the disappearance of Maëlys, that put us on the trail. It was the presence of the Audi in this other case that was decisive."

17:45: The phone of Lelandais, a major factor in the investigation

The gendarmes had then obtained the telephone numbers of N. Lelandais and had continued their investigations. It was these investigations that led to the discovery of the internet search "decomposition of a human body" on one of the phones.

On 18 December 2017, Nordahl Lelandais was taken into custody. During the hearings, he denied any involvement in the disappearance of Arthur Noyer. At the end of the custody, he was indicted.

The director of the investigation detailed all the cross-checking that had been done following the different versions given by the former soldier. The accused will eventually give the gendarmes the version he gave again to the court this afternoon

18:00: Without the Maëlys case, would the investigators have managed to get their hands on Lelandais? The director of the investigation answers

- The president: "If Mr. Lelandais had not been implicated in another case, would you have been able to trace him? "
- Answer: "It's complicated to answer. At the time, we were going through all the telephone data. We might have been able to do it, but not in such a short time.

The president asked whether the gendarmes could have observed that the phones were travelling together without having the numbers. The gendarme explained that they could not, especially as the phones were not managed by the same operator.

Many leads were being pursued simultaneously at the time, notably that of the theft of the corporal's phone by two individuals who were ultimately cleared.

18:15: Images of the video surveillance on the evening of the events are shown.

The president of the court shows the images of video surveillance of the city on the evening of the facts. He aims to find out, with the help of the gendarme of the research section, if we can estimate the level of alcohol in Arthur Noyer's blood from the photos where we see him staggering and lying on the ground.

18:25: A detached and unresponsive Lelandais during his questionings

Specialists in behavioural science had assisted the military of the investigative section during the questionings of Nordahl Lelandais. They had noted his lack of reaction and his detachment, even at the moment when the gendarmes had announced the discovery of the skull of Corporal Noyer.

18:40: Inconsistencies noted on how Nordahl Lelandais disposed of the body of Arthur Noyer

- The president: "He (Lelandais) says he deposited the body of Arthur Noyer at the side of the road...".
- Answer: "During the reconstruction, the dummy always stopped at the edge of the wood. But the body was found 8 metres from the road.

Photos of the reconstruction were shown.

The president asked if the three-month delay between the discovery of the skull and its DNA identification was normal. The gendarme explained that it was the analyses that took time.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 2

19:05: The lawyer for the civil parties speaks of "dysfunctions in the investigation" before changing his mind

- Me Boulloud questions the director of the investigation. He asks about the nature of the analyses requested on the skull in September 2017.
- The director of the investigation: "Certainly a DNA search".
- Me Boulloud rebounds: "It was a genetic profile that was requested. So yes, DNA. But why was the link not made immediately between the skull and the disappearance of Arthur Noyer?"
The director of the investigation: "Because the skull was discovered far from the place of disappearance. We had no objective evidence. It was a separate bone finding procedure. And even if a link had been made, the process afterwards would have been the same. We would have had to wait for the results of analyses."

The lawyer for the civil parties had begun to speak of "dysfunctions in the investigation" before changing his mind "it's a bit of a strong term."

7.38pm: In police custody, "we are not trying to make him say what we want but to get the truth."

Thérèse Brunisso, for the public prosecutor, emphasised that the gendarmes had very quickly considered this case as serious. The opening of a judicial investigation took place at the end of the flagrante delicto investigation, on April 20, 2017.

Mr Jakubowicz wonders about a question put to Nordahl Lelandais during his custody. He had been asked, while denying the facts, to swear on the heads of his dogs. "Is this customary? ".
Answer: "Police custody is an exchange between two people. We are not trying to make him say what we want, but to get the truth.

Counsel returned to the alleged state of drunkenness of Arthur Noyer. He wanted to know how one could be sure of this. The gendarme repeated that it was the analysis of the CCTV images that allowed this deduction.

The answer does not please the defence: "You are making peremptory statements while you know nothing about it."
The defence lawyer regretted "a selection of images to establish something rather than a continuous thread."

19:55: Lelandais and his inconsistencies

- Mr Jakubowicz: "What are the consequences of the inconsistencies of Lelandais that you note on the qualification of the facts? "
- The gendarme: "It is my duty to note them. His version often changed during the interrogations.

20:15: After three hours of testimony on the stand, the director of the investigation leaves the building.

The head warrant officer, director of the investigation of the research section of Chambéry, leaves the palace after three hours of testimony at the bar, where he had a dispute with Me Jakubowicz.

20:20: The hearing resumes.

Two experts still have to testify. An expert in video images from the gendarmerie now testifies.

8:55pm: Today's hearing is over

A police telephony expert has also testified. The hearing is now adjourned until 9am tomorrow.

Meurtre du caporal Noyer. Procès de Nordahl Lelandais : ce qu'il faut retenir de la matinée

Le Dauphiné Liveblog. Day 3

06:10: The program of the day

After the day of Tuesday marked by the passage of several ex-girlfriends and the former lover of Nordahl Lelandais to the bar, the third day of hearing should be devoted to witnesses. Several should be heard on Wednesday 5 May, including people close to Arthur Noyer.

8:48am: Bernard Boulloud, the lawyer for the Noyer family, a few minutes before the start of the third day of the hearing: "Today we will see the true image of Arthur. He was not a brawler, he was not violent. What he wanted was to go back to the barracks. And this will be demonstrated. Arthur was a kid like any other. He had two families: the army and the one that is here today. He didn't have the chance to have his phone number in Nordahl Lelandais' phone book, who doesn't hurt people he knows because that would immediately lead back to him. He hurts people he doesn't know. He calculates and plans everything. The Nordahl Lelandais we see there [ in the dock ] is a piece of theatre."

9.05am: the hearing begins.

The first to testify is the companion of the 13th BCA of Arthur Noyer (civilian today) who had partied with him the night of 11 to 12 April 2017.

9.11am: He did not complete his eight-year commitment. "The job was hard and psychologically, as Arthur was no longer there, it became harder." Arthur Noyer was the mentor of the witness in the 13th BCA. The group of comrades regularly went out to Chambéry when they were on leave.

9.26am: That evening, after drinking beers, the group had also consumed some cocaine on the occasion of the birthday of one of them. "Arthur didn't make it, he just toppled over. We were happy but not drunk."

The friends then went to the centre of Chambéry and continued to drink heavily in bars. "Arthur was singing and dancing with a group of girls who were doing karaoke."

In the nightclub, the witness and Arthur Noyer had drunk half a bottle of vodka. "One of the bouncers then kicked him out because he had drunk too much. For me, he wasn't that drunk. He could stand up."

The president pointed out to the witness that on a video, Arthur Noyer was then seen lying on the ground in the street.

"Afterwards I said to myself that he had found another comrade to go home or that he had called a taxi."

Arthur Noyer had called his friend three times but the latter had not heard his phone ringing in the nightclub.

9.33am: On the morning of 12 April, Arthur Noyer was not in his bed at the 13th BCA: "So we went to the police stations, the emergency room. We didn't know anyone in Chambéry."

The president asked: "Was he upset during the evening?
Answer: "No, he was not angry. There was no incident with anyone. Arthur is a person who goes easily with others, someone who jokes."

The president: "Was he someone who wanted to settle scores, to take revenge? (referring to the theft of his mobile phone in town that night)
Answer: "No, he was someone who would get to the bottom of something right away."

The president of the court asked whether Arthur Noyer was a young man who could be nervous or a fighter.

9.47am: Me Boulloud from the civil parties to the witness.
"Which road did you take when you had to walk home? To Saint-Baldoph or directly to Barby?
Answer: "We took the main roads, directly to Barby".

Question : "In a few words, how would you define Arthur ?"
Answer : "He was someone who enjoyed every moment".

Thérèse Brunisso, the public prosecutor, is now trying to understand what the witness considers to be drunkenness. She is surprised that after drinking multiple beers and half a bottle of vodka, he did not consider himself drunk: "It's generational. For usu, before a deep intoxication, you are not drunk."

The witness confirmed to the prosecution that Arthur Noyer could sometimes fall asleep when he was drunk.

10:04: The defence now questions the witness. The strategy is clear. To show that Arthur Noyer was not so drunk that night that he fell to the ground.

The witness: "I confirm."

Question: "Did Arthur know how to fight?
Answer: "Yes he could. We were doing training courses.

Mr Jakubowicz specifies that the defence does not intend to sully the memory of Arthur Noyer. He wants to know if the photo of Arthur Noyer, with his arms crossed on the ground in the street at the exit of the nightclub, can correspond "to a joke"?
Answer: "To get down on the ground just for a laugh, no!"

The lawyer continues his questions. "Are you aware of the day when, on his way back to the barracks, he found himself in Aix-les-Bains?
Answer: "No".

10:14: A new witness takes the stand. He is also a former soldier who trained with Arthur Noyer. The two men were friends and used to see each other in civilian life. They were close. He was not part of the group that went out to Chambéry on the evening of the events. "Arthur was jovial. I never saw him attack anyone or speak badly to anyone. We drank in the evening but we always managed. We were aware of our situation."

10:27: "Do you talk about your love life? According to you, was he into girls? Did you talk about his sexual orientation?" the president asks.
Answer: "He was discreet but he was heterosexual. Every time he talked about his stories, it was with girls."

The defence asks its questions. This again concerns Arthur Noyer's combat training in the army.

10:36: New witness on the stand. He was Arthur Noyer's roommate in the 13th BCA. He did not participate in the evening of 11 to 12 April 2017, he had stayed at the battalion to watch a football match. "We were a close-knit pair in the same section". "Arthur was cheerful, smiling, open-minded, he talked about everything. He was also a very good soldier. Really a good person."

10:56: The witness also confirms, at the request of the president of the court, that Arthur Noyer was heterosexual. Me Boulloud questions the witness in turn. He wants to demonstrate that the mobile phone was not an important object for Corporal Noyer and that he would not be beaten for it, contrary to what Nordahl Lelandais claims. The witness confirms that Arthur Noyer was generally uninterested in his mobile phone.

The hearing is adjourned for 15 minutes.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog. Day 3

11.17am: The hearing resumes. The next witness is an acquaintance of Nordahl Lelandais. They knew each other by sight and through Facebook.

11:24: He was a waiter in a snack bar near the Curial square at the time. His father was the owner of a nightclub where Nordahl Lelandais used to go. The interrogation is not easy. The witness does not seem to have much to say. "I never spoke to him. I just saw his profile on Facebook."

11:29: New witness on the stand. He is an acquaintance of the accused. He had a wine bar in Chambéry near the Curial square.

11:37: On the evening of the events, he has no memory of having seen him pass in his establishment. The two men knew each other as children. They had been seeing each other mainly during their teenage years. "We lost touch when he left for the army but we were still friends.

11:42: "In all sincerity, he was a normal person. With his ups and downs. He had several groups of friends". The witness had recognised Nordahl Lelandais on CCTV footage of the town of Chambéry that investigators had shown him.

11:56: Mr Jakubowicz returned to the fact that Nordahl Lelandais did not turn up on the evening of the events. The witness said: "I do not remember him stopping by but it is possible. But I would have noticed if he had come."

12.06pm: A new witness takes the stand. It is a retired man who at the time was running two bars. On the evening of the events, he was closing his establishment on Rue de la République. Corporal Noyer asked him to take him back to the barracks when he left the RDC.

12.10 pm: The former bar manager also knew the corporal as a customer. He used to come with his mates: "I never had the slightest problem with the military and with this Noyer. When things got out of hand, all I had to do was go and tell them and things always went well.

12:14pm: "The night of the incident: "He said to me, please can you take me back? I told him I had to go to the other bar. He said OK and left. He was a bit drunk but not dead drunk."

12:28pm: Nordahl Lelandais responds to the testimony. "What was said, that belongs to them. I'm not going to question their word".

The hearing is suspended until 2pm.

Meurtre du caporal Noyer. Procès de Nordahl Lelandais : ce qu'il faut retenir de cette troisième journée

Le Dauphiné Liveblog. Day 3, afternoon

14:12: The hearing resumes. New witness, the manager of the bar at the RDC, the nightclub where Arthur Noyer had spent the evening.

14:22: After his shift, he had met Arthur Noyer in the car park behind the nightclub. Their meeting had been filmed by CCTV. He knew that the corporal had disappeared after the search notices were issued in the days that followed. He had not responded to the call for witnesses at the time: "I doubted my own testimony. I didn't think that my story could be useful. He was not heard until January 2018.

14:42: The president asks if his behaviour suggested that he was drunk
Answer: "I don't know, I deduce that he was drunk because he was leaving the Curial".

Mr Jakubowicz: "This is the limit of human testimony. For the defence, it is null and void. It shall not be taken into account".

14:45: A new witness. A 29-year-old woman. It was she who witnessed the theft of Corporal Noyer's mobile phone by two individuals near the Place du Theatre, when he had left the discotheque the first time. Her intervention put an end to the incident and Arthur Noyer got his phone back.

2.50pm: "He was on his feet, coming out of the alleyway. He answered me by saying that his phone had been stolen and that he had not resisted. He was having a bit of trouble talking and was stumbling around. I don't remember him being aggressive. I immediately felt that he was a jovial person. He even joked with me.

3.05pm: The witness had called the police and stayed with the corporal until the police arrived. After the incident, Arthur Noyer had kissed the hand of the young woman who had helped him. At the request of the president, she repeated that Arthur Noyer was drunk: "He was drunk, yes. If I had pushed him, he would have tumbled over."

Questioned by Me Boulloud, she says that Arthur Noyer would have been unable to recognise his attackers afterwards: "I think that even meself, the next day he would not have recognised me." The lawyer for the civil parties questioned her in this sense because Nordahl Lelandais said that Arthur Noyer asked her to drop him off in Saint-Baldoph to find friends and return to seek revenge.

Veronique, the woman who witnessed the theft of Arthur Noyer's mobile phone near the Theatre café: "In the state he was in, he couldn't have made a fight"

3.24pm: One of the peacekeepers who intervened in the theft of the corporal's phone is now giving evidence.

15:39: For the police officer, after the incident, Arthur Noyerwas not unable to stay alone and go back to get his stuff in the club: "The next day I saw the search notices. I recognised him and informed my superiors."

"Arthur Noyer was drunk. He smelled of alcohol. His words were nevertheless coherent, he gave me his identity and he did not lose his balance. He was not aggressive and there was no disturbance of the peace. He did not want to press charges and just wanted to go home."

3.41pm: For the police officer, "there was no need to take him in charge and place him in a drunk cell."

3.51pm: The stakes for the prosecution and the defence are clear this afternoon. To obtain information from witnesses that gives credence to their version.

For the prosecution, Arthur Noyer had too much to drink but he was not aggressive and was not known to be a bad drinker. He was vulnerable that evening, as evidenced by the theft of his phone between 2 and 3 am by two individuals. He was therefore in no state to defend himself.

For the defence, Arthur Noyer had drunk a lot, but he was young, military and sporty, so he could hold his liquor well. He was standing tall that night and was likely, as Nordahl Lelandais says, to be aggressive and to fight.

3.56pm: Mr Jakubowicz asks the police officer about Arthur Noyer's state of intoxication. "From what we saw, he was drunk but not intoxicated".

16:06: The hearing is suspended for 20 minutes.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog. Day 3, afternoon

16:40: The hearing resumes.

16:49: Three witnesses are still to be heard this afternoon.

16:54: A young woman testifies, she is an acquaintance of Nordahl Lelandais. She saw him the day after the events. They partied a few hours after the death of Arthur Noyer. "We had an excellent evening, very festive. (She knew nothing of the facts of course). "He was a great guy, friendly, considerate."
"That evening, there was no sign that suggested anything". The young woman knew Nordahl Lelandais through his work. The accused knew her boss.

17:03: The witness explains that they liked each other but nothing happened between them. "He had this need to put himself in the spotlight". He had told the witness that he had been in Africa with the legion and that he had had to shoot armed children, which was not true, he had never been to Africa. The president asked if she thought he was a liar. "I didn't look into it any further."

17:23: The evening in question actually took place on 13 April 2017 at the Curial square. "Nordahl Lelandais, joined us (the witness and her work colleagues) in a bar and in a nightclub."

The president asks: "How was he knowing that he admitted in this court that he had dumped the body of Arthur Noyer on a mountain road?"
Answer: "As always. Festive, good. There was no change."

17:31: Me Boulloud questions the witness. "You saw Nordahl after the death of Arthur. You said that he had not changed.

"There was no indication. There was nothing to suggest the atrocity he had done. When I found out ..... (she breaks down and cries). I am a mother, I put myself in the place of a mother.

She addresses the accused: "You owe them the truth, Nordahl!

17:42: The defence questions the witness in turn. "You noticed his change in behaviour after January 2017. Was he drifting?"

Answer: "Not really drifting. Rather, he was letting himself go".

Mr Jakubowicz: "Your testimony is moving, but on the basis of what did he betray you atrociously? Didn't you already judge him?"
Answer: "No, but this is the mother in me speaking. At some point everyone has to tell the truth."

The president invited the accused to reply: "Alex, you have a very good memory. You are right in everything you say. The truth, yes, I will provide it. But throughout the investigation I have been telling it. I don't even know what to say."

She continues: "Tell them, you know in your heart what happened. Tell them, you owe them. You can't say it was an accident, it's not possible.

Nordahl Lelandais: "In these moments it's difficult, I had a very thick shell."

The witness: "I saw you just after, it was not a shell. You were normal."

17:47: The president continues. "36 hours after the fact we have a festive man."

Nordahl Lelandais: " I acted in a very cowardly way. Deep inside I was not well at all."

President: "Were you a good actor?"

Nordahl Lelandais: "It's not acting. It's not hiding things. But I couldn't do it. I tried to be natural."

The witness spoke again: "We would have helped you if you had told us.

The president of the court insists on the festive and flirtatious side of the accused 36 hours after the facts.

Nordahl Lelandais: "My days and nights have never been the same. I'm sorry to say that, Mr and Mrs Noyer, I know that yours are worse than mine.

17h51 :

Nordahl Lelandais: "The best thing to do would have been to warn the gendarmes, the emergency services but I did not know what to do".

The president of the court "that you may not have been well since January. But 36 hours after the events, you arrive at this party as if nothing had happened."

18:06: Mr Jakubowicz wants to contextualise the party sequence after the fact. He asks Nordahl Lelandais: " This goes gradually with the invitation to this party. What is going on in Nordahl Lelandais' head at that moment?"

Nordahl Lelandais: "It's to forget, to zap this moment that is present and not present. It's unreal. I need to see my friends. I need them, without explaining to them."

Mr Jakubowicz: "What can you (the lawyer is now talking to his client) give your friend as a plausible explanation? Is this the monster described for years?

Nordahl Lelandais: "Sorry, I don't understand."

Me Jakubowicz: "How is this normal man that she likes able to go to this party?"

Nordahl Lelandais: "I needed to resume like a normal life. That's something... I needed them."

Me Jakubowicz: "Can you understand that it hurts?"

Nordahl Lelandais: "Yes".

Mr Jakubowicz: "And you, madam (to the witness), what is your interpretation?

The witness: "I think my brain can't see him as he really is. I can't see him as a monster. My brain has blocked like a huge pain. It's up to you (to Mr Jakubowicz) to prove that he is not a monster, it's not my job.

18h12 :
The witness: "You needed to shine, Nordahl, you needed light. And you chose a strange way to do it."

Le Dauphiné Liveblog. Day 3, afternoon

18:13: A new witness gives evidence. A 39 year old man. He was friends with Nordahl Lelandais since high school. "The facts that he is accused of, it is incomprehensible. It is not the person I know. We did many things together. It's like we're talking about a person I don't know. The man describes a person he could count on: "I had an emotional episode in my life and he was there."

18:42: The president asks the witness if Nordahl Lelandais spoke to him about his love life.
Answer: "Yes but not in detail.

The two men saw each other until August 2017. They sometimes consumed drugs together. The president seeks to know how Nordahl Lelandais financed his cocaine and how often he used it.

The witness was in Chambéry on the evening of 11 April 2017. He was in contact with Nordahl Lelandais. They saw each other and consumed cocaine together at a friend's house.

18:44: His friend says of Nordahl Lelandais' version of events. "There we are looking for a truth but I know in my heart that this is not what happened. We spent a lot of time together. I know him well."

To Nordahl, "you have to let go of things. I know that. What did you pick up a person for? You went down there for what? You don't do things innocently. I'm convinced of that."

Nordahl Lelandais replies: "What are you talking about? About BFM télé? I've already picked up people and taken them where they wanted."

18h53 :

Witness: "Is it an accident how the course of events arrived at the end of August and another drama?"

Nordahl Lelandais: "An accident or a combination of circumstances, I do not know. You are still my best friend. You think it was easy to say..."

The witness seems to touch Nordahl Lelandais. He shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head.

Nordahl Lelandais: "I know you are very angry with me. For my friends who knew me I apologise, it sounds easy but it comes from the bottom of my heart."

19:06: The defence to the witness.

Me Jakubowicz: "What do you know about the truth? Why do you say that he claims it was an accident? Where do you get this term from? Didn't you hear it in the press?

The witness: "No, it's what I perceive from the situation. I don't have as much facility as you do in bouncing off words. We find the same things in another drama (Maëlys) so for me there is something. You (to Me Jakubowicz) don't know him as well as I do."

The hearing is adjourned.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog. Day 3, afternoon

19:42: The hearing resumes. A final witness will testify. He is a friend of Nordahl Lelandais, the boss of the woman who partied with the former dog handler after the facts.

19:45: "Nordahl was a very close friend. Who came into my life and whom I loved as he was. And today it is no longer the case. I have only good memories with him, holidays, barbecues, good food, good drinks ... and today we meet here (in court)."

"He was attentive to his family, caring with our children. He was a great mate."

The man is very distressed: "I understand what's going on but I can't connect it to him. That one person can make this big difference.

7.48pm: "Even if I called him at the last minute to help me, he was there. Always pleasant to deal with. A friend that I liked to have in my home even when it was not planned. He would come to my office, he was my recreation. Friends who love and respect each other. We all have our secrets but.... not secrets like that."

7.53pm: "He was in the most intimate circle I have. I trusted him. He was at my daughter's christening, one of the most beautiful days of my life."

The president asks how their friendship came about, as the two men have two very different views of the world of work, the witness being a company director.
"He was Nono the joker, we were doing stupid things like 30 year juniors. I don't care how much he earns or how much he doesn't earn."

20:04: "He wasn't a thunderbolt at work. I reminded him, he could hear me because we were mates. But I didn't judge him. Relationships were the same. I would say to him 'learn to separate', you don't have to separate on bad terms, nor to be enemies."

The man is particularly moved but he testifies with great dignity: "In my mind, it was obvious that it wasn't him because I had put him in my inner circle. I told his mother to give him my support and that soon we would have a laugh about it over a drink. But the day there was this evidence for Maëlys and the confession, I called Nordahl's mother to tell her that I could no longer support Nordahl. I was his friend and I chose not to be anymore."

20:17: On the evening of 11 April 2017, Nordahl Lelandais had dined at the witness' home. The president of the court asks if he had observed a change in his behaviour in 2017. "He was like all of us. Good days and bad days."

The witness was also at the party at the carré Curial 36 hours after the facts, to which Nordahl Lelandais had invited himself: "We had a good time. It was a very good evening."

"I didn't know he was taking cocaine. One of his ex-girlfriends had alerted me but I didn't take it seriously. I thought it was a break-up that didn't end well."

8.22pm: The witness explains that Nordahl Lelandais became serious when he talked about the army. "But maybe what he told me he had seen in a film." Nordahl Lelandais had related to his friend scenes of guerrilla warfare in Guyana that never took place.

20:29: Maître Boulloud asks the witness if he believes the version of Nordahl Lelandais.
Answer: "I know nothing. I was not there. What I know is that Arthur died and that Nordahl was then at the party."

The witness addressed Nordahl Lelandais: "Unburden yourself of the truth, unburden your soul. The damage is done. Live what you have left to live lighter. But we must be aware of one thing, and that is the collateral damage. Next to Arthur Noyer's family, next to Nordahl's family, I'm a small damage, but it makes me suffer enormously. And out of respect for yourself, you have to stop this drama. Usually it's in the United States, this kind of story, on TV. And here I am in front of you all for the most serious subject, a human being who hurts another. Of the group of friends, I was the last one to believe in your innocence. All the others have given up on him... and on me."

20:32: "Many friends have hatred when they think of Nordahl. I don't have any... only sorrow. He screwed up himself".

Mr Jakubowicz to the witness: "I just want to tell you that I am happy to have met you. Thank you for this moment of humanity in this hearing which was so badly needed.

20h38 :

Nordahl Lelandais to his former friend: "You said everything. You spoke again of the moment when you asked me about cocaine, I regret not having told you. You were like my big brother. Next to you I'm not brave... in everything... work, girls. I often talk about you with my lawyer, the carers. I don't know what to say to you because I'm so ashamed. You will always be in my heart. You didn't come to the visitors' area, I understood that very well."

The president asks: "Isn't courage taking a step towards the truth?
Nordahl Lelandais: "I've been trying to tell it from the beginning but everyone tells me it's not like that."

Nordahl Lelandais tells the witness "Thank you for being my friend". As he left the room, the latter waved his hand in the direction of the dock. The former dog handler replied with the same gesture before taking his head in his hand.

8.40pm: The hearing is suspended until 9am tomorrow.

21:14: Cecile Noyer, mother of Arthur, left the court of assizes very moved.

"The whole day has been very emotional. I am moved after hearing all these testimonies of the friends of Nordahl Lelandais, who loved him, who feel betrayed, who do not understand. They were all very dignified. I thank them. It really moved me.

Arthur's friends also spoke and what came out was that Arthur was a nice boy, full of life, a 23 year old kid who loved life. I was also moved by the testimony of the bartender because I saw Arthur kissing her hand, I recognised him in everything she said."

Meurtre du caporal Noyer. Procès de Nordahl Lelandais : ce qu'il faut retenir de la matinée de jeudi

Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 4

8:50am: This Thursday, Nordahl Lelandais is to be questioned on his version of events. The version that he has maintained for several months and reiterated in the court of assizes earlier this week, namely a fight with Corporal Arthur Noyer that has gone wrong.

9:09am: The hearing resumes. The president invites Nordahl Lelandais to speak about the testimony of his friend the previous evening. He does not say a word. His face is marked this Thursday morning.

9:17am: A witness testifies on the stand. She is a former friend of Nordahl Lelandais. "I met Nordahl as part of my job on the ambulance. It seems to me that it was in 2008. I have very good memories of him. He is a normal person whom I liked a lot."

"The presence of journalists bothers me a little. I don't want my private life to be revealed. I don't think it does anything for his trial." The president is looking into whether their relationship went beyond friendship.

9:19: Their relationship lasted at least until 2016. "But I have nothing to say about that."

9.24am: She was a victim of revenge *advertiser censored* by Nordahl Lelandais. "I will never forgive him." She then received death threats from people who had identified her following the case. The witness is clearly traumatised by having to testify in the criminal court.

9.30am: "I think he had both an angel side and a devil side. We didn't know he was using drugs. The witness explains that for months, she did not believe that Nordahl Lelandais could be the perpetrator of the acts he is accused of. "And when the bones of the little girl (Maëlys) were discovered, I burst into tears. Afterwards I had to move on."

9.40am: "I sometimes had the impression that he was depressed, unhappy with himself. But I also know that he was a liar. He would lie about anything and everything, like the time he had a fake cast on his face."

On 9 April 2017, they had seen each other. The witness had found him in good shape. "He had confided in me. I had appreciated it". On 13 April, the day after the events, they had also seen each other: "A completely different person. He said nothing, he was withdrawn. He told me that his back hurt and that he had hurt his wrist while working in the garden.

9.54am: On 13 April 2017, they had been walking their dogs after getting them into the boot of Lelandais' Audi. The witness had not noticed anything special in the vehicle.

9:57am: The fellow prisoner who claimed to have received Nordahl Lelandais' confessions in prison will now be heard. A warrant had been issued against him earlier this week because he did not respond to summons.

10:04: "We often talked at the window in prison in the isolation ward. (in September 2018). We went out together on a walk and he let loose when I asked him what really happened. He told me that he had asked Arthur Noyer for oral sex. That it had become heated. That Arthur Noyer went out to pee and that he finished him off with a stone. That's really what he told me. He also told me that he had raped and killed Maëlys. That she screamed and that he got on top of her, that her head was all blue afterwards and that he put her in his trunk.

10:11: In September 2018, the witness had confided to the supervisor what Nordahl Lelandais had said to him on a walk. The witness explains that it was he who had questioned the accused: "He was Nordahl Lelandais, I wanted to know what was in his head. It was curiosity."

The president tries to understand why the accused had told the witness during this walk what he had never said to anyone else. The witness replies: "Maybe he was in a trusting mood that day. I was the only prisoner he could talk to."

10:22: "I am not usually a snitch, but this was serious. The president asks the witness if he is sometimes an informer of the police and gendarmes. Answer: "Yes.

The president points out to the witness that his testimony is of great importance in the case: "Why did you give several versions?" On 14 December 2018 he had given another version where he did not talk about fellatio.
Answer: "Okay, but it's certain that he had spoken to me about it, it didn't come out of my head".

The president emphasised that there were questions about the credibility of the witness. "Was your desire to help justice?
Answer: "Yes, for me it was serious".

The witness explains that they had talked about their attraction to swingers' clubs.

10:28: The president asks again. "You are stronger than all the gendarmes, experts and investigating judges?"
The witness: "I had given him cocaine that day."
The president with irony: "Maybe that's what we should have done too."

The atmosphere is heavy. The credibility of the witness is clearly on the line. He confirms that he is a "tonton", i.e. a police informer.

10:42: Thérèse Brunisso, the public prosecutor, takes the floor. "The prosecution will not rely on this testimony." She does not ask the witness any questions. The civil parties give the witness hardly any credit.

Me Jakubowicz to the witness: "You are in the middle of something that is completely beyond you". The lawyer calls the witness a "snitch". The latter takes it badly. "Why do you say that? Do you want to pick on me?"

10:58: Mr Jakubowicz dismantles the credibility of the witness. The former cellmate of Nordahl Lelandais is driven into a corner and has obviously convinced no one.

Nordahl Lelandais spoke: "I think everything has been said. We only spoke of banalities. That's all we talked about, nothing in particular. I wasn't going to say at the window what I'm here for."

10:59: The hearing is suspended for 20 minutes.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 4

11.30am: The hearing resumes. A former girlfriend of Nordahl Lelandais is testifying.

11:35: "We met on a dating site. He had approached me when he saw my profile picture with my dog (in March 2017). His nickname was 'the trainer'. At first we talked about my dog. And then we saw each other for a casual relationship."

11:40: Nordahl Lelandais had told the witness that his name was Jordan and that he lived in Aix-les-Bains. She only understood when the Maëlys case broke and she saw his photo and his real name in the newspapers. They saw each other between March 2017 and June 2017.

On the evening of 11 April 2017, the evening of the facts, "he had written to me to have a sexual relationship. He was insistent. I told him I couldn't and that he should calm his impulse."

11.48am: The president reads out the text message exchanges from the evening when Nordahl Lelandais had insisted heavily on having sex.
The witness: "I feel guilty because if I had accepted, we would have avoided a drama."
The president tells her not to feel guilty.
"I am so sorry for Arthur's family."

11:51: They had met again on 15 April 2017 and had had sex. "It was normal, there was nothing unusual."

12.15pm: "I feel like I was stupid and naive. He lied to me about who he was. I still feel guilty today."
The witness specifies that he was not romantic but that he was never brutal.
Maître Boulloud: "You are not responsible for Arthur's death, not even remotely. Do not feel guilty.

As far as the witness is concerned, Nordahl Lelandais may have wanted to satisfy his sexual urge with the victim on the evening of the facts.

The defence asked the witness: "Were your sexual relations normal, respectful, without violence?
Answer: "Yes."

12:19pm: Nordahl Lelandais' last girlfriend now takes the stand. "I don't know where to start."

Nordahl Lelandais had maintained this relationship while he was still dating his ex-girlfriend. "He was caring, gentle, we had the same passion for dogs. She had become pregnant with his child. She was "very much in love with him." From that moment on, their relationship deteriorated.

The president asked if she had ever seen him get angry. "He was never physically violent."

12:27: The president, "Is Mr Lelandais manipulative?"
Answer: "Yes, I have no concrete proof but he always turns things around in his own way".
"I was afraid of him but I was very much in love with him. I couldn't break the spell."

12.30pm: She had spoken with Nordahl Lelandais' mother about his sexual needs. "She had told me that there may have been a history of sexual molestation during sports studies. But that it was a taboo subject."
She had had an abortion in March 2017: "Because he didn't want the baby anymore."
The interrogation is painful for the witness who breaks down on the stand.

12:40: They had had a telephone conversation in the visiting room when Nordahl Lelandais had not yet confessed. The witness had asked him questions about the facts but Nordahl Lelandais had denied everything. "I have nothing to do with these stories. They say anything. You shouldn't listen to what they say."

13:00: Mr Jakubowicz to the witness. "I know how painful this is for you.
"You loved a man very much and you learned terrible things. The only woman he spoke to me about was you."
"You said he could be gentle and respectful during sex".
Answer: "Yes".

The hearing is suspended until 2.15pm.

En direct. Procès de Nordahl Lelandais : la famille Noyer sort de la salle d’audience pour ne pas voir les images de la reconstitution

Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 4 afternoon

14:13: For the murder of Arthur Noyer, Nordahl Lelandais faces 30 years in prison. For that of Maëlys, life imprisonment. However, few prisoners in France are subject to "real" life imprisonment.

14h18: The hearing resumes. A forensic scientist will testify by video conference.

14:21: The deposition will be trying for the civil parties. The expert details the work she has done on the skull of Arthur Noyer.

14h30: Photographs of the skull are projected in the courtroom. The expert considers that the state in which it was discovered was consistent with the four and a half months that it spent in the wild.

14:41: President Manteaux questions the forensic expert about the fractures observed on the skull. Me Boulloud in turn asks his questions. He wants to know if it is possible to establish the number of blows and their violence. The expert explained that for each of the fractures, a single blow could have been sufficient. "During the reconstruction, the accused mimed the succession of blows, he is a boxer. Could this have caused these fractures?" The expert considers that it is possible.

14:48: Two new experts testify. One present in the room, the other by video conference. They too examined the skull.

14:53: "There was a fracture of the nasal bones and a dilapidation of the jaw, there were lesions on the left and right. A CT scan was also carried out on the rest of the bones discovered in January 2018. A large number of bones were missing, the skeleton was incomplete."

14:55: A photo of the skeleton, partially reconstructed, is projected in the room. One of the experts confirms to the president of the court that there were no traces of cutting.

15h05: The bone lesions observed are compatible with the facts reported. But one of the first hypotheses of death is a cranial trauma with neurological lesions. For the expert, this does not seem compatible with the version of the accused.

A second cause of death would be an associated cervical spine trauma with immediate death. The expert considers this possible in view of the information reported by Nordahl Lelandais.

Another possible cause is haemorrhagic trauma. The expert considers this unlikely given the age and good health of the victim.

The last possible cause is asphyxial trauma. Again, this is unlikely because it generates breathing noises and a survival time, which was not reported by the accused.

15:16: The experts believe that it is possible, if the victim falls or if his body is thrown from a certain height or into a ravine, to find the same fractures. Due to the absence of soft tissue and organs, the experts were unable to work on other possible causes of death.

3.24pm: Due to the nature of the case, the experts were unable to carry out an external examination of the body. They could only work on possible causes of death, compared to the facts reported by Nordahl Lelandais. The former dog handler is right-handed. He confirmed this to the court at the request of the president.

15:49: The public prosecutor Thérèse Brunisso recalls, summarizing the testimony of experts, that in the state in which the body was discovered, there is no certainty on the cause of death. "Apart from the statements of Nordahl Lelandais, we have nothing". The experts confirm that if the victim was stabbed, they could not determine this.

The defence agrees but says: "Let's go back to your report, the rest is conjecture. You could only work on what you were given. The defence notes that the experts believe that the facts reported by the accused are compatible with what they have observed.

The exchanges are particularly technical.

15h29: Me Boulloud recalls that Nordahl Lelandais spoke of a heart massage. He asks if injuries to the ribs were observed. The experts indicate that they have not observed any lesions of cardiac massage but they specify that they are not systematic. It depends on the age and health of the person.

16:05: The forensic expert now returns to the scene of the fight described by Nordahl Lelandais in the car park of the socio-cultural centre of Saint-Baldoph.

16:20: For the expert, the hypothesis that Arthur Noyer, in alcoholic impregnation, has made precise blows to Nordahl Lelandais in the lip area is unlikely. In the same way, it is unlikely that he remained standing in a stable manner.

Videos of Arthur Noyer on the evening of the events are shown. These are from the RDC and the town of Chambéry

16:28: This is a very special moment for the civil parties. The last images of Arthur Noyer, alive, are projected.

16:43: The video of Corporal Noyer outside the nightclub shows him, for many minutes, trying to recover sitting on a bike rack.

photo-le-dl-sylvain-muscio-1620310919.jpg

For the coroner: "On this outside part, we do not see any standing up without holding on to something. You can see that the head is not held up, that the trunk is hanging forward. There are few muscular restraint mechanisms of the body. This is compatible with an alcoholic impregnation. He is not intoxicated with one or two glasses of alcohol".

The president asked if he could face an opponent or defend himself. The expert considers that his condition would not be compatible.

16:53: The hearing is suspended until 17:15.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 4 afternoon

17:23: The sessiong is resumed.

17:26: Photos of the scene in Saint-Baldoph, where Nordahl Lelandais says the fight occurred, are projected.

17h29: New videos are projected. The first is a video made in the context of the investigation. It is a professional montage of the investigation.

17:43: The film mixes elements of the investigation, CCTV footage from the evening of the incident and video of the discovery of the body. The images are difficult for the family to see.

17:47: Images of Nordahl Lelandais, walking in the area of Curial Square on the evening of the events, are shown for the first time. He had passed several times in front of the RDC nightclub.

17:55: At the wheel of his car, he had also made multiple trips to and from the Rue de la République, near the Curial square in Chambéry. The film shows the characteristic bluish colour of his car's headlights.

17:57: The Noyer family leaves the courtroom. They do not wish to see the images of the reconstruction where Nordahl Lelandais violently hits a dummy.

18:00: We also see Nordahl Lelandais placing the dummy in the trunk of his car.

18:02: For the forensic expert, in view of the projected images, Nordahl Lelandais was the more alert of the two men. "Arthur Noyer had balance problems".

18:08: For the defence, Maître Jakubowicz questions the expert.

"The injuries that you have observed, what other origin can they have than blows to the face?"
Answer: "We can imagine a fall with an impact on a surface, a blunt action.
Maître Jakubowicz: "Your hypothesis of the injury to the cervical spine, can it also come from the fall to the ground?
Answer: "Yes, it is possible.
Jakubowicz: "Is this what is commonly known as whiplash?
Answer: "It's possible.

18:11: The Noyer family is back in the courtroom.

18:18: Me Jakubowicz, on Arthur Noyer's alcoholism. "I see the same thing as everyone else on the images. He is not well. But some sequences are very different. We also see him running and walking. And when he gets his jacket back from the club, he is 'normal'. Is there not an evolution of his condition?"

The expert: "During the phases of movement, we don't observe any notable elements of his alcoholic impregnation. But when he stops to sit down, there are destabilizations."

18:37: Maître Boulloud to the expert. "Is it possible that Nordahl Lelandais applied the commando technique?" (a neutralisation)

Answer: "It is possible."

18:38: Thérèse Brunisso, the public prosecutor, makes the expert specify that alcohol impregnation is seen more in a static state than in a dynamic state. The state of drunkenness of Arthur Noyer on the evening of the facts was once again at the heart of the debates.

18:44: The hearing is suspended for 15 minutes. The civil parties will then be heard.

Le Dauphiné Liveblog, Day 4 afternoon

19:06: The hearing resumes. Nordahl Lelandais will not be heard today about his version of events. The civil parties will now speak. Didier Noyer, Arthur's father, takes the stand.

didier-le-pere-d-arthur-noyer-photo-le-dl-sylvain-muscio-1620327893.jpg

Didier Noyer:

7.07pm: "Yesterday I was in such a state of emotion and today in such a state of anger. To contain myself is already a problem", says the father of the corporal.

19h11: "In 1990 I met Cecile, we fell in love. In 93, Arthur arrived and in 95, Quentin. My value scale was at 4. Now it has fallen to 3. Arthur was premature. We wanted to call him Lulu. That's his middle name." Didier Noyer is visibly making enormous efforts to contain his emotion.

7:12pm: "Raising a child is a responsibility. We give them a toolbox with values. Respect, dignity. Arthur was very much in the spirit of these. We were sharing, discussing, loving. We talked about all these values. At home, there were no taboo subjects. Out of respect for Ms. Lelandais, I will just say that my son is dead. Betting on intelligence has always been the challenge of the family. To say that most people are not that bad. But sometimes you hit upon a real bad guy."

19:18: "He had two families, the army and us. And it was a very beautiful family. The children were not baptised. We didn't do that so they would have an openness. In his military service, he might die and he might kill. He had met the padre (the chaplain) He didn't tell me he had done coke... no. But he told his brother. Just like he didn't tell me the first time he had made love. He had done his part of foolishness, but he wasn't a clown or a buffoon (reference to the defendant's lawyer)."

7.21pm: "Ms Lelandais, with all due respect, I approached you and we hugged. Yet, madam, our children, one went to the light side of the force and the other to the dark side. Darth Vader is waiting to die before he gets any humanity back. It's a shame he could not have done it before".

7:26pm: "I'm very legalistic but I still feel like I'm hearing some here. Arthur, your mother and I don't rock and roll anymore.... (sobbing) and that bothers me a bit. He was quite a guy, the friend (Nordahl's) who gave evidence yesterday. You tell him, Ms Lelandais. Mrs Lelandais, you don't have to change your name, it's pathetic. We don't support that. That old slogan, when the parents drink the children drink... well no. And the reverse is true. I would never say anything negative about the Lelandais family, yet it is not the same for the accused.

7:31pm: "I am firmly convinced that he is not a psychopath, because that can be treated, but a social predator."
The president asks him about Arthur Noyer's alcohol consumption. "He drank, yes. In the idleness of the army, that happens, when you are 500 km from home. And when he drank, he tended to fall asleep but was never aggressive."
