Sunday, a rally will be held in Paris where other European leaders, as well as foreign representatives, will stand in unity with the people of France.

I'll be there, 3pm. It's going to be so massive they are splitting it in two. I can't wait to go down on the streets with the whole of Paris. The last time anything like this happened was when 500,000 went out to protest the results of the first round of the presidential elections when extreme right Le Pen number 1 came out at way too high a percentage and it freaked us all out.
700,000 have already rallied since the Charlie Hebdo killings. I expect the numbers tomorrow will be record.

She's sick of people being PC. She has been harping on this stuff for years and there are more and more terrorist events and the PC bunch is still freaking worried about people's fee fees.

This ain't rocket science and she knows it.

She is a bigot, and is using the tired old excuse other bigots use, ie that they are sick of the PC crowd. She is not helping.

I think we need to be more realistic about Islam too, and what it is teaching, I think we need to work with Muslims on this problem that stems from followers of their religion, calling them out as welfare breeders for example is only going to alienate them and creating a RACIST climate against all Muslims is the opposite of what we need to do and what will help.

A radical muslim has warned that Ireland is a 'legitimate target'.

That's not going to work out, in my opinion. I guess we will see.

I just got home after my travels to Spain and woke as my plane landed, to rounds of applause from frightened passengers. Apparently there was rough weather...or something. Dunno. I was asleep. Anyhow, it made up my mind. I'm off to Paris to show my support because I do believe in pushing my luck and do not like the idea of being terrorized out of visiting any country. I'm going to buy a beautiful bouquet and lay it in tribute somewhere in the city, on behalf of myself, and anyone else here who would like to do the same but can't get there. I'll post pics when I do.

We are going to have to agree to disagree which is our typical status:)

There was a Muslim on Fox News this morning and I thought what he said made so much sense when it comes to any religion.

He said religion is like a hammer. He said 'you can take a hammer and build a fine strong home or you can take that same hammer and use it to tear down the home and destroy it. He said the Islamic terrorists use their religion to destroy.

I have never felt anything but love, inclusiveness, and acceptance from those who have religious beliefs (even if they were not of the same faith as I am) and I have been a Christian all of my life. I respect all beliefs as long as they aren't extremists/fanatics like the Islamic terrorists who uses their God in order to murder innocent others.

I don't think you are a bigot.:) I know I am not and I really like her and how she doesn't shy away from the truth.

Imo, we need more like her who isn't afraid to speak out.

"PARIS , FRANCE - A WALKING TRAVEL TOUR - HD "

It's been years that France has had a problem about racism/nationalism, no wonder that there's problems now, it can not go sweeping this under the carpet because it's real and embedded deep down.

What's the most intense emotion you feel in life, until you feel great loss?

Most would say love, for me at least. From what I've seen, at the core of the faith this way of thinking seeds hate, because like love it is easily blinded, and so so empowering if you're a nut or an idiot. I have a mixed family, going back three generations of all the 3 faiths, at least, that I know of, and ones among us that Waddles would well comprehend. A lot went wrong over my lifetime and my parents' to bring us to this stage with this faith, that these nuts and idiots claim to espouse it.

A start?!

"Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas in a statement condemned the strike as an unjustifiable terrorist attack".

I wish I had time, or I would link all the statements of condemnation from various Muslims - Imams, spokespeople from various groups, prominent individuals, etc, that I've read over the last few days.

It's sad because inevitably, and here in this thread too, people will say "where are the voices of moderate Muslims? Why will leaders not speak out against this?". But they do. I don't know if the problem is that big media doesn't report it - but the statements are there for those who say they want to see more like this.

So I would say I'm glad to see the statement from Hamas, but they are certainly not the only ones speaking out. So not a start, but a good statement among many!

I find her aggressive and bigoted frankly, and dislike the way she spoke to the muslim woman who asked the question. Arrogant IMO. Her rhetoric is inflammatory, I believe this issue needs to be largely solved by Islam and peaceful Muslims myself, treating the large majority so badly is not the way unite and work on the issue. This 'lady' is not going the right way if you ask me.

One lady speaks out, she is rude and aggressive to her, then she asks that lady where are the others, and everyone cheers? Does she really need to wonder why others do not speak out, if only to be shot down and lectured? Rude and unhelpful, do not understand why everyone applauds her public bullying of this woman.

'You took the limelight' << nasty mischaracterisation, 'So are you an American?' .. etc I could go on.

This is precisely what JS Mill and other political philosophers meant when they discussed free speech and the need to protect it. In a true marketplace of thought and speech, we are all free to advance our opinion and ideas, and to accept or reject those of others. Yet we have become a culture where speech is perceived as having the power to 'cause' behavior. The truth is, in a democratic environment, no one's speech has more of a place in the market than others. We are forgetting our Western foundations:

“If all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.” ― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

“The peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is, that it is robbing the human race; posterity as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those who hold it. If the opinion is right, they are deprived of the opportunity of exchanging error for truth: if wrong, they lose, what is almost as great a benefit, the clearer perception and livelier impression of truth, produced by its collision with error.” ― John Stuart Mill, On Liberty

So, to your point concerning 'inflammatory' speech, what is the purpose of protection of speech, specifically dissent (which Charlie Hebdo's cartoons essentially were) if not to guard against tyranny and oppression of the People? How do we develop an ability to discern the merit or lack thereof of speech that we encounter, if tyrants are constantly shutting down the marketplace and demanding strict adherence to their thought and their speech, under the mantle of "I'm offended"?

'Inflammatory' rhetoric is everywhere, every day, different day. And in my view, the inability to tolerate or ignore or shake off the speech and its impact, says more about the group who is always incensed and seeking to silence, than it says about the content of the speech.
