Someone trying to advance their career by prosecuting false or (pardon the pun) trumped-up charges on innocent people would be wrong, IMO.

Someone advancing their career by prosecuting people who have actually (or probably) committed crimes is okay by me. It's pretty much a truism that prosecution of criminals will equate to a successful career for the prosecutor, yeah.

In fact, if a person is reasonably suspected of criminal activity, I don't think the various personal motivations of the prosecutor matter one bit -- as long as the law is followed, meaning a fair trial -- criminals should be prosecuted, period.

Any prosecutor who would NOT put full effort into prosecuting a likely criminal just because they like or hold the same political views as the criminal, is being unethical and should be fired or censured. IMO.
BBM. I totally agree with you on that point!

Are you saying you think the charges in this case are false or inflated beyond what it appears actually took place?
Yes. I would prefer Jack Smith be the lead prosecutor on matters involving a federal election.

I also question whether Willis' concocted her expensive two year "investigation" of the 2020 election with the help of Stacey Abrams, who was the leader of the Georgia electors in 2020. Abrams falsely claimed election fraud in 2018 and lost. She certainly lined her pockets well...and was forced to repay taxpayers.
JMO
“Although Georgia’s election system is not perfect, the challenged practices violate neither the Constitution nor the VRA (Voting Rights Act),” wrote Jones in the 288-page order. The lawsuit was initially filed in the wake of the 2018 election, in which now-Gov. Brian Kemp defeated Abrams by a margin of about 50,000 votes. The court ruled against Fair Fight on claims over Georgia’s “exact match” voter registration policy, absentee ballot cancellation practices and registration inaccuracies.

Fair Fight v. Raffensperger was the largest voting rights lawsuit on record in the Eleventh Circuit, covering much of the Southeast. Fair Fight alleged that the exact-match policy placed an undue burden on voters, and disproportionately affected minority groups.

@MyBelle I do recognize an area of some percieved "overlap" given that even federal elections are conducted in each state, by each state.

Personally I have no problem trusting that the breaches of federal law have been charged in federal court while the breaches of state law have been charged in state court.

Can't say I agree with the rest of your post. Some of it I'm simply not aware/informed enough to have an informed opinion.

MOO

They are pleading guilty to misdemeanors and are doing it because <modsnip: No link to support the reason you have stated as fact>.
Yes, I think the weaponization of a system of justice to advance her political career as Willis has obviously done is very, very wrong.

The public's right to know prevails!

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee began his unsealing order by noting that Powell, Chesebro, Ellis, and Hall each invoked their first-time offender status under Georgia’s First Offender Act to immediately seal their dockets following guilty pleas to lesser charges that did not include a RICO offense.

Because there is a mandatory prison sentence, nobody wants a RICO offence. It was imperative to get that removed from the charges.

If there was genuine evidence to prove RICO, a plea deal with only misdemeanors/probation wouldn't have been offered, JMO

Happens all the time that the little fish are given options if they come to table and help to (truthfully) convict the bigger fish. RICO with its 5 yr mandatory is a great incentive. We should not forget that they were all charged by the GJ with RICO counts which means that many if not all would probably have stuck. As we move up the accountability tree, I think that the lone fighters if this case will have a hard time refuting all the gathered evidence and the cooperating people's position and accounts.

Right. Pleas to a lesser charge happen all the time....when there is value to the prosecutor to make the deal. Sometime an agreement is made because it saves court time and money. Sometimes a deal is made because it will help convict the bigger fish. This is nothing out of the ordinary.

Pro-Trump lawyer Robert Cheeley is among those who have been offered a plea deal in the Georgia case but, according to his lawyer, turned it down. Former Coffee County, Georgia, elections supervisor Misty Hampton & former Trump campaign official Mike Roman have also been in contact with the DA’s office about a possible deal.

10/31/23 Update; Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee presiding over the 2020 election RICO case against Trump & co-defendants has reversed himself on the issue of sealing the criminal case dockets of attorneys Sidney Powell, Ken Chesebro & Jenna Ellis & bail bondsman Scott Hall. Judge Scott McAfee began his unsealing order by noting that Powell, Chesebro, Ellis & Hall each invoked their first-time offender status under Georgia’s First Offender Act to immediately seal their dockets following guilty pleas to lesser charges that did not include a RICO offense. Judge McAfee said that although prosecutors with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office “did not oppose the requests” to seal, and although the judge orally granted the requests at the change of plea hearings, the sealing statute demanded more analysis from the jurist on the balance between “public’s interest” in accessing the records & the defendants’ “privacy” concerns. The judge did add, however, that Powell, Chesebro, Ellis & Hall can “renew their sealing request” upon the “successful completion & discharge of their sentences.” The order to unseal, signed & dated 10/27/23.
*Scott Graham Hall - (fake GOP elector tied to Coffee County breach) Plead guilty (9/29/23) & sentenced to 5 years of probation in exchange for testimony moving forward (including at trials of other co-defendants), a $5K fine & 200 hours of community service. Probation becomes non-reporting after 2.5 years, assuming he does not violate his probation during those initial 2.5 years. And will have to write letter of apology to Georgia citizens.
*Sidney Katherine Powell (68) - took a plea deal & plead guilty to 6 counts of conspiracy to commit intentional interference with performance of election duties & sentenced to 6 years probation, required to testify at future trials, pay at $6K fine & #2,700 in restitution to the State & write an apology letter to the citizens of Georgia & admit her role in the January 2021 breach of election systems in Coffee County.
*Kenneth John Chesebro (61/now 62) – took a plea deal (10/20/23) & plead guilty to Count 15 Conspiracy to commit filing false documents. All other charges dismissed. Sentenced to 5 years probation, $5K restitution fine, 100 hours of community service & an apologize letter to the citizens of Georgia & testify against all other co-conspirators truthfully. Also no communication with media, witnesses & co-defendants, recorded proffer with prosecutors, provide documents & evidence. Resides in Puerto Rico & Judge will see if he can get probation transferred there. As part of his plea deal, Chesebro admitted that he conspired to put forward fake GOP electors in Georgia with Trump & former Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani & John Eastman. Giuliani & Eastman have both pleaded not guilty in the Georgia case & now face the prospect of Chesebro taking the witness stand against them."
*Jenna Lynn Ellis (37/now 38) – Took a plea deal to charge of aiding & abetting false statements & writings. Ellis plead guilty on 10/24/23. Sentenced to 5 years probation, $5K fine, apology letter to the citizens of Georgia, 100 hours of community service & testify truthfully against other co-defendants.
