exactly why i put it in quotes..........
we are not talking about healthy people making a relationship work here.
This is kinda dangerous territory, lol. Maybe men refused to wear condoms. She must have had a least one of the babies as a teen, to have a 3 year old at 22 now. Where did she work? Maybe she was likely to encounter footloose irresponsible men there who left her holding the bag. Or baby. I'm willing to pile on once we learn what she allegedly did to that baby but I could write a book about what it takes to keep relationships going, and that book would be permanently lacking a few last chapters.

Press Conference

13th Oct.

Chief - As you know, our investigation over the last 8 days has led us to the heartbreaking conclusion that 20 month old Quinton Simon is deceased. We have named his mother, Leilani Simon, as a primary suspect in Quinton's disappearance and death. We have not made an arrest or filed any charges at this time. From the moment we received the 911 call reporting Quinton missing, we have conducted an exhaustive search for him. Sadly, we still have not found Quinton, but our search and our investigation will continue and it will continue with every available resource we have, in order to give Quinton's family closure and see that justice is served in this case.

I would like to thank the FBI for their invaluable expertise and assistance during our search and for the help they will continue to provide moving forward. We know that millions of people fell in love with Quinton Simon the moment they saw his face and learned of his disappearance. We have seen the outpouring of love and concern for this child and the outpouring of grief at the latest developments in this case. The men and women of the Chatham County Police Department share that same sadness, but we also feel very determined to keep working as hard as we can and for as long as we have to, to find Quinton. Now, Special Agent Clark will have some comments and then I'll return with some closing statements.

FBI - From the moment the FBI became involved in this investigation, our primary goal was to assist the Chatham County PD in bringing Quinton home and holding anyone responsible for his disappearance accountable. To the Chatham County community - our heart breaks along with yours in trying to comprehend what we believe happened here. The FBI, along with our law enforcement partners have followed every lead, every tip and every piece of evidence to get to this point, and we will continue to do so.

The FBI entered this case less than 3 hours after Quinton was reported missing. The FBI has provided the Chatham County PD resources in this case, and those resources have come in the form of investigative, analytical and technical assistance. For the past week over 40 FBI agents - analyst's, task force officers and professional support staff who live in the postal Georgia area have worked tirelessly and continuously on this investigation. Last Wednesday we mobilized our Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team, the CARD team in short, which brings with it experts from across the country who specialise in missing children cases. As needed and as the investigation continues to progress, the FBI stands ready to deploy additional resources. In closing, we share the sorrow felt by millions and pledge every resource to assist the Chatham County PD in finding little Quinton.

Chief - In closing, I understand the intense interest in this case. I know everyone has a lot of questions. I'll answer what I can but remember, our focus must be on not doing anything that jeopardises the integrity of this investigation or bringing justice for Quinton.

Reporter - We heard from the family last night that you might be targeting a landfill - Can you tell us about that?

Chief - I cannot disclose any information relative to that. We will follow the evidence and when our evidence leads us to search anything specifically or any specific geographic area we will communicate that to you at that time.

Reporter - (asks about the evidence that led them to conclude that Quinton is deceased)

Chief - I cannot get into any specifics relative to evidence. What I can say is, the evidence that we have so far, based on multiple search warrants and interviews, has led us to the conclusion that Quinton is deceased. The investigation doesn't end, you know, right there. We will continue to investigate this until it's final conclusion.

Reporter - With no charges brought against (inaudible) - What made you think it was necessary to identify his mother as the main suspect?

Chief - Because the evidence has led us to that point and to this point today.

Reporter - Why has she not been arrested?

Chief - Because we will only do that when we feel that we have everything that we need to. We only get one shot at this, right? We're going to do it right. We're going to do the best that we can. We're going to use the resources at our disposal. We're thankful to the FBI and when we get to that point and we feel comfortable, in counsel with the FBI and the ADA, that's when we will reach that conclusion.

Reporter - Is anyone else being considered for criminal charges?

Chief - At this time, no.

Reporter - (inaudible)

Chief - The evidence in the case has led us to this conclusion.

Reporter - Was there a date where you found the evidence that led you to this conclusion? Because, obviously, earlier this week when you asked, you said you did not suspect (inaudible)

Chief - The accumulation of evidence over these last 8 days has led us to this conclusion today.

Reporter - Do you have an idea where Quinton might be?

Chief - We do not have any specifics at this time. I can't answer that question with any level of specificity.

Reporter - Do you know where Leilani's other 2 children are?

Chief - I can't answer that question.

Reporter - Do you know where Leilani is?

Chief - I don't know where she is currently, today.

Reporter - Is there any chance anyone else, besides Leilani, will be charged?

Chief - There is no one else who is a suspect, at this time. Leilani is the main focus of this investigation.

Reporter - Are you not concerned that you've now named you're number one suspect out loud to the public? Is there not a concern that she might take off?

Chief - I can't get into any specifics, but we don't believe she's a flight risk at this time.

All right. Thank you. Appreciate your questions. Have a great day.

I wonder if cadaver dogs hit on an item in the trash linked to the mother. This would be one of the few ways that evidence could point to him being deceased and the mother being involved without knowing the location of the body. They could also have located a potential murder weapon with positive fingerprints or DNA.

If LS left the house that morning, potentially to dispose of QS's body, what did she do with the other two kids at that time? Would she have left them home alone? If she took them with her, what would prevent the older brother from talking about this?

The way LE is describing the case implies that the boyfriend has somehow been cleared. It could be a ruse on their part, however. If he did leave for work at 6 AM and was back at the house by 9AM for the search, LS must have called or texted him sometime well before 9AM. Was there something about this call or text which somehow implicates LS and/or clears the boyfriend?

Despite all the discussion on QS's threads, I feel like I know next to nothing about major players in this drama. For LS, for example, we know she has three kids with three men and she shares her last name with only the middle child. Her mother describes her as generally nice but sometimes makes bad choices, she doesn't have custody of her two older children (but we don't know why), her step-grandfather doesn't believe her original alibi, she told LE she was on probation during a DV LE visit, and her brother alleges she steals from family to buy drugs. This doesn't paint a pretty picture, but we know no details of her education, her previous pregnancies, child custody issues, or criminal history. This will all come out eventually, but for now, I don't have a strong feeling about who she is and what is going on in her life.

my money is on surveillance being on LS. Hence the Chief stating he didn't know where she was at this moment but relative confidence that she will not abscond into the wind.

<modsnip - off topic to the specifics of this case, at this time>

Of course everyone has the right to their own opinion(s), which I 100% respect. I just offer that no one here (that I'm aware of) knows LS's medical history and/or what actually happened/when/where/how to Quinton, so at this point in time, those who think there's a possibility she doesn't remember what happened are just as correct as those who don't.

I did notice in the presser that Hurley's reply and nonverbal language (when asked by the reporter if anyone else in the family was facing criminal charges) points to LE believing someone else is involved. JMO.

ETA: Reporter asks question at the 5:55 mark.

I hope she hasn't actually disappeared and been named a suspect to hopefully prevent friends/family taking her in.
We all saw her leaving in the truck yesterday morning. LE were all around her house, and they most likely already knew at that time that she was the prime suspect. I feel comfortable that if they did not know exactly where she was going when the truck pulled out of the driveway, they surely would have tailed her. I feel certain that they know where she is. I felt no sense of urgency in the chief's statement that he did not know where she is, at the moment, which tells me that his investigators do know. JMO

To the contrary, I encounter women every day who believe that having a baby with a man WILL keep him. They're proven wrong all the time, but they keep trying. Considering LS has three kids with three different men, that may well be what's happening here.
Actually, not defending "L", but having children with three men may not be a "norm", but it happens. Especially if someone doesn't have cognitive ability to use birth control consistently, things happen, for many reasons. And some women like to be pregnant, all of the extra attention. Having a new baby....babies are fun. Toddlers, can be more challenging.

I don't think anyone should be judged on anything regarding how many children she has or by how many men.

Long article, more at the link:

Records show police investigations over the years with mother

Before the disappearance of her youngest son, Simon, 22, had been the subject of multiple police investigations in recent years.

On April 12, 2019, a Chatham County police officer was dispatched to 5801 Garrard Avenue in reference to a trespass report. Simon wanted her brother, Paul Simon, removed and banned from the property. She believed Paul stole $100 from her mom. Because of that, she had to pay her mom back.

She claimed her brother was bragging about stealing $100 from another woman. At first, Paul told the police officer he never stole the money, but later admitted to stealing it because he didn’t have any.
...
On September 7, a Chatham County police officer responded to a call for a domestic dispute at 535 Buckhalter Road. Simon told the police officer that she and her mother had a fight over clothes in the washing machine.
...
That led to a larger argument between the two, specifically about “how things were.”

Her mom, Simon said, got into her face and shoved her. Simon fell into a wall, injuring and bruising her elbow. Both her older child and Quinton witnessed the fight.
...
Howell, however, told the police officer a slightly different story, saying Simon instigated the fight. While the fight did start with the use of the washing machine, Howell claimed she was having other issues with her daughter. She was frustrated because she took care of the household and paid all of the bills, and yet Simon, her two children and her boyfriend lived there.

Absolutely. If my post insinuated that, I want to be crystal clear: I often remind others (including my own children -- now adults) that there are plenty of people who've grown up in awful, abusive conditions that never hurt others (or break laws). When I hear childhood backgrounds used as excuses for hurting others, it triggers me into protective/justice mode, because of my own history and having never spanked or abused (in ANY way) one of my children (or any child -- I was a volunteer GAL for many years because of my own past and wanting to be the voice for abused/neglected children since I never had that myself). I strongly advocate for family assistance regarding parenting, etc., because that's the root issue and the sooner it's addressed, the better.

Hugs to you, fellow survivor. (I also have a Dissociative Disorder, but usually just say 'with dissociation' because popular belief still thinks Dissociative Disorder = DID/Multiple Personality Disorder). I'm sorry for what you endured, but I'm happy you made it through.
This! I am a volunteer GAL right now. I felt a strong desire to try an advocate for these children and stop they cycle. It's heartbreaking what I am dealing with at the moment.

and she was sane enough to take the trash out and wait for the garbage pickup before calling 911, so i pray they arrest her and she never gets back out of jail, what a waste of air and that precious babyhad to sufer he abuse, im just sick!
if she put him in the trash and he was reported, why wasnt the truck stopped and searched, or that area in the landfill like right away?
