I don't think they meant that people in the medical field would be most likely to decapitate someone. Rather I took it as they are referring to how a person in that field would likely be more familiar with the logistics of removing a persons head than someone not in the medical field.

OK now that I've re read the original post I take it as her saying a person in the medical field might be more desensitized to something we would think of as gruesome.

Thank you Georgiagirl, that is exactly what I meant! Like it or not, there is a level of desensitization that has to occur for those in the medical community. While a beheading may be particularly gruesome, doctors, nurses, coroners, etc. are in a position to see, touch, cut, clean and mend things that might make the rest of us vomit or worse, pass out. A chef who breaks down large carcasses (usually done in fancier restaurants as the meat is considered fresher, cleaner, and cut better) on a daily basis would probably have more of a mental system of disengaging from the reality of chopping up carcasses.

According to unnamed sources:
1) the gates camera quit functioning properly on April 28.
2)Mr. D was found in his PJ bottoms and a house robe. There were Saturday and Sunday papers in the driveway. Leading to the belief that this all happened Friday night or Saturday morning.
3)Mr. D's head was removed in one clean cut, with possibly a second to finish through the bone. (This leads me to believe that whoever did this knew how much strength it would take.)

There is only one road into this community. It has a guard house that is manned 24/7 by an officer who calls upon assistance when anyone without the proper decal goes through the gate and does not stop to be cleared and given a pass. I believe the perp entered by boat. I also feel that this was a warning to a family member in some trouble.

I think Mrs. Dermond had to be home. Her things are there and nothing is disturbed. I'm not so sure about Mr. Dermond. Perhaps he was on one of his walks when he encountered something or someone?

Its a good thing LE is not depending on me to solve this one.

Wonder who delivers the paper?

Has anyone here looked in to the RSO lists? I can't. I get too creeped out. I wonder how many there are in the area?

I would like to know about #1. Wow.

I have thought all along the reason Mr. D was decapitated in the garage was because he probably owned a saw, hatchet, axe, machete or some type of implement they used. And if the house was just so, Mr. D's tools were probably on a pegboard neat as ever and easy to use.

If that happened, do you think the killer backed the car out of the garage to clean up? Where did he /she put the body and Mrs. D. during the clean up?

TIA

This had to be planned to the ninth degree. I mean, nothing moved or disturbed. No blood spatter or massive amounts of mess?
How long did Mr. D have to be dead before he could be beheaded without having blood everywhere? I know that's awful to discuss...but it had to be long enough for the blood to stop pumping.
Thinking about all these things in detail just brings everything to a grinding halt in my brain. This had to be an intended, well thought-out, purposed assault.

If you go to the sheriff's page, there's a map with pins. You won't have to read or see any pics as long as you don't go near the pins with your mouse. That would at least give you an idea as to where and how many in Putnam County.

13WMAZ. Sheriff Sills said LE was at the D's home on Monday dusting for finger prints and interviewing anyone who knew the couple. Sills said they have no lead and no motive.

Hello everyone, I have been reading along with you but have not posted because I have nothing to add. This crime is so shocking, brutal and surprising to me!
Last night I had dinner with some friends who are local to this. They did not know the Dermonds well but knew them well enough to speak and say hello if they ran into one another while grocery shopping. Anyway, these locals I know say that the local opinion is this was a mafia thing. A mafia hit does not sound right to me...of course, I know nothing about the mafia.

Hey K.jil, thanx for sharing and jumping in.. As you can see we need all the input that we can get.. This a very mysterious and horrific crime.. Imo, without a citizen's tip or forensics evidence, this investigation is going to likely be a marathon, not a sprint..

RE: professional hit/mafia thing

Imo, there is a specific reason the search has been focused on the water.. Due to the trees, stumps, etc., on the lake bottom as well as the limited visibility, it may be a while before a proper search can be conducted.

If Mrs. D was abducted, combined with the decapitation of Mr D, this would rule out a professional hit, imo.. A professional would have carried out the executions of both Mr & Mrs D, in the same manner and would not have taken the time to stick around and decapitate the victim..imo If both were located, and were decapitated, it would be reasonable to suspect a hit by the drug cartel, imo. There is absolutely no indication of any type drug involvement by the D's..

Imo, there will be a direct or indirect connection to meth, but the connection will be the perp/s.. Imo, this abduction/murder/decapitation was carried out by an experienced sadistic psychopathic sexual predator.. Very brazen, escalated, malignant, anti social, and extremely evil.. Not his first, last, or only, unless still in his teens, as was Austin Sigg, jmo..

Maybe Mr. D. was murdered and decapitated before Mrs. D was even aware that anything was going on. I wonder how far the newspapers are dropped off from the home. If right near the home (and he was in his pj's as someone upthread shared) then maybe Mr. D had gone out to get the paper that morning (what time are the papers dropped off?), was attacked, and then the perp. entered the home (without force, the door was already unlocked) and took Mrs. D. Maybe she was still asleep or just getting her day started. Or maybe Mr. D. heard something during the night and went to investigate. Maybe they didn't even share a bedroom so she wasn't aware he had gone out at all.

Or maybe she was present the whole time.

Or multiple perps. with one securing her elsewhere.

I believe that police officers, firemen and members of the military would also fall into that category. jmo

Thank you, Foxfire
I had not thought about the fact that both would suffer the same fate if this was done by a professional killer but it makes sense. Elementary!

I wonder about the degree of premeditation. I wish we knew:
-Did the killer(s) happen upon this couple or know them and their surroundings very well?

-decapitation...seems like it would take a lot of force and a weapon that is not likely to be in the average persons tool supply???

-how clean was the house??? Was it more than clean and tidy? Was it wiped of fingerprints and free of trace evidence like hairs or footprints?

But if there were to be ransom demands then one would be kept alive I would think.....and it would be risky with the age of Mrs. D.....sorry I know that sounds awful but this case is awful.....I still think professional hit somehow.....it is too clean....no clues or at least none that are being told. Gosh blows my mind.

This case is giving me nightmares. I can't imagine living in the neighborhood, and having no answers! How terrifying!!

I tried Googling Russell Dermond within a search period before his death but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone know of an archive search engine?

How can the people that live there even sleep right now? Personally, I'd be wanting to get the heck out of there. Unfortunately, I can't imagine anyone wanting to buy a house there until someone is caught.

And think about the people with kids! What a nightmare, you're right.

RE: it is too clean, no clues

Nana46, the lack of clues, is a clue within itself, and indicates a forensically aware predator..jmo

Experienced/escalated psychopathic sexual predators are usually of above average intelligence, but more important, imo, is that are very creative, deflective, manipulative, and calculating. They will fool even the most competent and experienced homicide investigators. They are forensically, as well as, being aware of investigative strategies and tactics, etc..

Putnam County Sheriff Sills should be saluted for utilizing the resources of the FBI BAU2 and many other available resources. However, long gone are the days of behavioral profiler pioneers; Depue, Douglas, and Ressler of the FBI BSU, imo..

http://criminalminds.wikia.com/wiki/Roger_L._Depue
In this first-person account of becoming the FBI’s top serial-killer hunter and a member of a religious order in an attempt to discern the true nature of good and evil, Roger L. Depue searches for an understanding of how evil develops.

Between Good and Evil is Depue’s look back at a life spent apprehending criminals, especially serial killers, first as a small-town police chief, then an FBI-SWAT team member, Behavioral Sciences Unit chief, and a developer of revolutionary law enforcement programs.

The book also examines Depue’s experience studying with the Brothers of the Missionaries of the Holy Apostles in an attempt to discover why a good person like his wife, whom he had lost to cancer, is allowed to die while monstrous criminals get to live.

Following his time in the clergy, Roger L. Depue returned to law-enforcement and today heads one of the world’s most elite think tanks; 'The Academy'..
