I remember my uncle, who was in law enforcement, telling me about 40 years ago how "hoodlums ratting out other hoodlums" is exactly that way that most cases are solved, especially in small towns. I'm not sure if that is still how it works, but it might actually be the main reason for increasing the reward.

This is the first time in Sheriff Sills 40 year career that Sheriff Sills is implementing this.
If Sheriff Sills thought it was a great incentive, I think he would have implemented this Before Now, or DURING his 40 year career.
IMOO.

Ok,then a "hoodlum" will rat out another "hoodlum"......
Will it be anonymous or will everybody know who the hoodlum will be who is ratting out the other hoodlum(s)?
Basically, he is calling the person who will receive the Reward a Hoodlum....
If it was That Important for a Reward, the Reward would have been Implemented long before Now.....What are the strategies? I don't buy the Hoodlum story..... There's got to be "other" reasons. I understand a Reward does raise an issue with keeping their names out in the public and keeping the Dermond case in the public eye is a good thing......
I can't see Sheriff Sills changing his ways after 40 years of doing something a different way, so there has to be more reasons for this than Just a hoodlum ratting out another hoodlum........

IMOO.

I have to agree with you Tree. Sills has the experience to back him up. He obviously knows way more than we do. I think the whole 'asking for donations to increase the reward' announcement is just a ploy, imo. As we know, rewards hardly ever solve cases, diligent police work does. This is all just my
:twocents: and I honestly don't know any more than anyone else here. Sleuth on my fellow sleuthers.

Imo, Suthrnqt, a tip from an aware citizen combined with diligent police work, specifically CSI/forensics, is why many, if not most cases are solved. Don't guess a higher reward would hinder an investigation though.. JMO

Good afternoon, all...just caught up reading. I had one question but don't know where I saw it. Something Sills said about subpoenas ? The reward money may help and can't hurt, so I'm ok with that either way. If they think 2 people were involved, then it could be a plus (like one of you said - someone was there but didn't participate?). I woke up like I do every day hoping there will be an arrest. I would so hate it if this person isn't caught. I still can't get into the idea that it was planned, not sure why. I keep thinking it was quiet that Friday night on the lake and the dude just slipped out in his boat, no blood, no noise, etc. Why do I keep leaning towards a confrontation? I will be surprised if it is a SK. I think I need to learn more to keep up with you guys!

Maybe the increased reward, if highly publicized and clearly communicated, will at least get the case back in the media and perhaps motivate someone to check their own security cameras or revisit that week-end mentally. Maybe someone who assumed this has nothing to do with them, so why bother, will give it more thought. Or, maybe this potential "hoodlum" does know something and will be willing to contact LE. You know, turn over a new leaf in life, get a fresh start. Maybe a wife or girlfriend of the perp. has suspicions but couldn't get involved due to her financial dependency on the perp. I would guess that the perp., if he has a romantic partner or spouse, is highly controlling and perhaps abusive towards his partner. The reward could motivate such a partner to contact LE.

Maybe if there are two perps. one is the weaker partner in the crime and news of an increased reward may get him or HER to entertain thoughts of contacting LE. Maybe the weaker partner didn't kill but was involved some other way and thinks they would not be charged with murder. Could interpret news of the increased reward as an indication that LE would have resources available to help him or her out of a mess that they didn't intend to find themselves in.

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Maybe, if nothing else, it sends a message to the perp. that they are still working the case. He must be feeling smug, perhaps even amused by the apparent failure of LE to figure this all out. This could be a smoke screen to let the perp. THINK they have nothing.
BBM

Well then here would be her big opportunity to cash out on him.

I think LE does have some idea of who did it and they are working around any way possible to get someone to talk. If this were your spouse or someone you shared the bed with, wouldn't you be scared to death if you suspected involvement???

Somebody out there knows something. Most folks cannot keep a secret. I am sure somebody out there saw something.Knows someone who has been jumpy or more paranoid than usual.
Any news on the person who went to HH about security tapes? Perhaps the person was asking because a truck/ boat/ trailer was parked there?? Memorable truck? Out of state plates? Too clean a boat? Might be on the tapes.

I would like to be a fly on the wall in Quantico right about now.

Don't subpoenas have to be pretty specific??
All roads lead to Terminus.

I thought subpoenas were used to require someone to appear in court?? Did I miss something? Going back to read. :seeya:

FWIW.
On WSB last night, it was reported that Sills said they were waiting on subpoenaed documents.

If local LE and the FBI have worked this case for 26 days shouldn't they have some kind of lead?
What about fingerprints from the garage?
DNA from the house, garage?
Anything from the cameras ?

something?

==========================================
I watched a Criminal Mind the other day ....... the lead detective who called in the CM team was the perp. It was interesting.[/QUOTE

Oh, they have something IMO. But, they need to collect enough evidence to have it stand up in a court of law. That is the hard part.

Well, apparently he thinks it's a great incentive NOW, gotta do something ! If someone doesnt' rat out someone or if no one is overheard talking about it, we be screwed! That is if nothing else comes back on forensics

Do we suppose he's not expecting anything in regards to forensics to come back that will help in this case?

Subpoenas are also used to get documents from banks, hospitals, creditors, phone records, etc.. Most entities require a subpoena before releasing non-public information.

Not if she's crazy too. Hopefully she has no conscious though, so she WILL rat out the perp!

Wonder what your thoughts are on why LE has some idea who did this. Seems they said they had no leads...............

gotta update my signature >

I'm positive they have no leads, I'm a pessimist! :floorlaugh:

God knows I hope and wish they did !

Got you! I apparently skipped right over the document part. :blushing: Doh!! Thanks!

In this video, it mentions the reward accumulations of:
$30,000.00 from Reynold's Plantation
AND $13,000.00 Promised from Local Businesses.

That's 43 Thousand Dollars.......
I wonder who Else will Contribute?
IMOO.

wasn'there already $20K so that would be $63K
