I can't remember a missing or murdered person investigation that generated as much ms media coverage for the one year anniversary, as there has been in the Dermond abduction/decapitation/murders.. Ironically the Eatonton community's primary news source; 'The Eatonton Messenger' has coverage, but requires a subscription to view....

One year later: Murder at Great Waters

MS or BS, seems confusing to me, yesterday they didnt' know a thing, today they have a POI, maybe two!

EATONTON, GA-- Investigators in the year-old murder of an elderly Putnam County couple would like to learn more about a man spotted on the lawn of the murder victims, Sheriff Howard Sills told 11Alive News Tuesday.

"I consider (him) a suspect myself. But that's all I'll say about it. We had a witness that saw him out there," Sills said. Sills would not elaborate, nor would he issue a description of the man.

Have they not inquired about this man before today???

MS or BS, seems confusing to me, yesterday they didnt' know a thing, today they have a POI, maybe two!

I'm thinking the latter, dancinunderthemoon. Of the many interviews of Sheriff Sills, and articles on the one year anniversary of the Dermond abduction/decapitation/murders. Sheriff Sills, was not once questioned as to why he refuses to utilize the very valuable investigative resources of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

"Social media via cell phones are analogous to a security camera across the landscape of America". An informed and aware citizenry is a very valuable investigative resource which enhances Public Safety"..

FBI.gov - Interactive Social Media: The Value for Law Enforcement.
<sniped - read more> http://leb.fbi.gov/2013/september/interactive-social-media-the-value-for-law-enforcement.

The increase in use of interactive social media in the last 5 years has changed how people live their lives. Individuals use smart phones to post photos, identify their location, and advise what they are doing. If law enforcement agencies fully engage the public by using social media, the department and the community benefit by increasing collaboration and enhancing investigative capabilities. With well-planned implementation, the use of social media can impact community issues, and police departments and citizens can work together to solve crimes...

I think any time a person is interviewed, then later to be found out that they weren't completely truthful, that's a red flag.
Maybe that person was trying to protect someone.
Maybe that person is afraid of retaliation.
Maybe that's why Sheriff Sills says that they are still out there and capable of anything.
Thing is, I thought this was "personal",(the murders of the Dermonds.)
If the killer(s) are capable of anything, then it sounds like perhaps they might not be done yet.
That it goes Beyond Mr. and Mrs. Dermond, that it might not stop there...
Well, what could be more personal? The people closest to Mr. and Mrs. Dermond?
Could there be a future retaliation against family members?
IMOO.

I've thought from the beginning that this was personal. I believe the Dermonds knew their killer(s).

“I wouldn't sell my soul to the devil, but I'd lease it out to solve this case,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills quote..

Sills says while he's not afraid of whoever killed the Dermonds, he has what he calls a far greater concern.

"My fear here is I'm not going to be able to find out who did it," he said.

Because for all his work, Sills has nothing to show for it.

"When you are looking for one fish in a big pond, and you don't have a stump to cast from then you start casting a mighty broad net," he said.

“JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS” BY JOHN DOUGLAS(1997); Author and FBI BSU; Behavioral Science Unit Profiler...

JD penetrates the minds and motives of the most terrifying prolific predators/serial killers. . JD was one of the early pioneers of the FBI’s Elite BSU and many of the techniques, strategies, and procedures used in tracking and identifying unidentified subjects today can be attributed to his experiences into the abyss or darkness….

'The FBI BSU was later changed to the FBI BAU; Behavior Analysis Unit, for obvious reasons. The BS Unit, which was also referred too as the witches unit due to it being located 60' underground, with dim lighting/no windows, and their unique ability to enter the darkness of the minds that they frequently and routinely encountered'..

Prologue: ‘In the Mind of a Killer’

This isn’t the Hollywood version. It isn’t sanitized, or prettied up, or rendered into art. This is the way it really happens. If anything, it’s worse than the way I describe it…

"AS I HAD SO MANY TIMES BEFORE, I PUT MYSELF IN THE MIND OF THE KILLER".. Quote: by John Douglas...
http://www.amazon.com/Journey-Into-Darkness.../dp/1439199817

He goes on to say that he also puts his head into the mind of the innocent victim/s also to be able to see the whole picture….

This experience could cause a strong minded person, severe physical and mental health issues, imo..

As do Catholic Priests that perform multiple exorcisms, Agent Douglas, paid a hefty price with his health, even though he had the ability to compartmentalize and possessed a high tolerance level, due to the enormous ‘evil’ that he and his team encountered...

I am confident that Sheriff Howard Sills possesses this same ability to identify evil, and with determination and perseverance will insure that Justice is served in the Dermond murders...

<BBM for Focus>
Foxfire, many a deputy or sheriff retires due to anxiety and stress over the years, this can't be good for SS health. I do believe they will NEVER find the killers, he needs to take care of his health, dwelling this much has got to be the cause of great stress on the organs! Revenge could also be the answer here in this crime, it does make great sense, (IMO) When all avenues have been exhausted, WHERE would the investigators then look?? Something bizarre and unbelievable, Wills, finances of friends and family? How do you get there without suspicion and what would be construed as suspicious? Many a husband or wife have killed the spouse due to the love of money STS, but they are both gone. If a revenge for something against the PCSO, HOW would the investigation proceed at this point??! I don't think we'll ever know unless its the money end of things, even then, where does the investigation go??

When the FBI BSU was established, John Douglas; one of the pioneers of the BSU/BAU suffered health issues due to the overwhelming evil he endured; < http://m.imdb.com/name/nm0235123/quotes >

[recalling how his obsession with finding the Green River Killer almost killed him] I didn't have a support system. I came back, I took out Inca Protection insurance, and life insurance, I went out to Seattle before I left, I told my family about my life insurance. 'You shouldn't go, what's wrong with you? You don't look right'. I'm getting headaches, I just don't feel right, but they're depending on me to go out there.
I go before the task force, and that night I tell them 'Don't bother me, I'm not going out tomorrow, I'm getting the flu'. I collapse in my hotel room, they find me two days later with a lesion on my brain, I had viral encephalitis, related to the stress just burnt me out. Brain swelled, split the brain, left side paralysis, 220 heartbeat, 105-107 body temperature, my eyes were dilated, my whole system shut down.
I'm in this coma now, and they take me to the hospital, but I'm aware, I'm aware something's going on around me. And they're starting to, I feel pain, and they're putting tubes in every body orifice in me, and I feel pain, and the last thing was the life support system, and they're forcing it down my throat. And I think I'm in hell; I think all these guys I've been after, they got me now, I'm being tortured, and now I'm being choked to death, I can't breathe...

“I wouldn't sell my soul to the devil, but I'd lease it out to solve this case,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills quote..

Reminds me of:

"The devil went down to Georgia
He was lookin' for a soul to steal
He was in a bind 'cause he was way behind
And he was willin' to make a deal"

FBI Special Agent and Psychological Profiler; John Douglas Biography -

You examine a crime scene with all its particular attributes in order to develop a general physical and psychological description of the person who committed the crime -- a profile. Then, in logical terms, you build a set of suspects who fall within the profile. Then, you move logically back to the particular. You try to find the specific criminal within that group.
[Houston Chronicle, 13 October 1996]

"Sills says he recently re-interviewed a close relative."

“I took a firmer tone this time. This person kind of broke down. After it was over with, my personal thoughts are that she certainly didn’t have anything to do with it, but I never say never,” Sills told Winne.

I have a headache now.

ETA: Sorry, I meant to include this. It's from the first link.

Channel 2: Per Sills he has a person of interest. Not elevated to suspect. Hopefully this video will be online soon. I think he meant person of interest in mind. Not clear yet.

From my memory of the news piece so I hope I have this correct:

Link is updated now so my notes removed and not needed...

From Your Link:
"Sills stepped out of the Suburban and stuck a Glock 18C in his waistband. He went in the house through the kitchen door, the same door the neighbor entered. Then he headed for an open door that led to a cramped two-car garage. The garage was dimly lit, but the white walls helped Sills see. On the floor between a Lincoln Town Car and a Lexus SUV was a man’s body on its back. The man’s age was hard to guess—because the body had no head. It had been cut off. And it was gone." - See more at: http://www.atlantamagazine.com/grea...d-sills-chases-a-killer/#sthash.gxbpGMba.dpuf

Okay, so I am a bit confused...

This article states:

"Their front door was unlocked."

But yet, in this article:

"Sills stepped out of the Suburban and stuck a Glock 18C in his waistband. He went in the house through the kitchen door, the same door the neighbor entered." - See more at: http://www.atlantamagazine.com/grea...hases-a-killer/#sthash.gxbpGMba.v4lxL2ur.dpuf

So, how many doors were unlocked?
The kitchen door and front door, to my knowledge are two different doors, 2 different rooms.

Have you sent an email to the person who did the report to ask? Small town papers usually have their emails in the byline. Don't think this post is against TOS...sorry if it is...just saying in general....
