Gabby Petito: Authorities search Sarasota nature preserve for Brian Laundrie (heraldtribune.com)
[...]

When the Herald-Tribune requested the missing persons reports for Laundrie and Petito, Taylor noted the documents would be heavily redacted.

When asked if the case had evolved into an active criminal investigation, he responded "Not here" in an email.

[...]

At some point, Laundrie's family went to an entrance of the nature preserve and found his car there, then drove it back to their North Port property. Taylor did not know the day they retrieved Laundrie's car.

[...]

As protestors filled the front yard of the Laundrie residence Friday night, police were seen removing brown paper bags from the home. Taylor clarified that those were articles of clothing used by police dogs to track his scent.

[...]

Authorities say Laundrie invoked his 5th Amendment right to not speak. As long as this remains a missing person case, he may never have to talk about what took place.

The Spread Creek campground was closed due to the search, according to The Daily Mail. A ranger at the Grand Teton National Park confirmed it was closed but wouldn't say why. An email sent to officials at the national park was not immediately answered.
Gabby Petito search focuses on Grand Teton National Park

Rangers and the FBI are actively searching an area on the east side of Grand Teton National Park for missing van-life girl Gabby Petito, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

As a result of the search, Spread Creek campground is closed as National Park Rangers and the Teton County Sheriff search the area, and the area will remain closed to the public for the next few days.

The Spread Creek site is one of the dispersed camp grounds Petito listed as visiting on her page at thedyrt.com, where she reviewed her journey.

KSL’s Garna Mejia actually ran into a local man who said he and a friend saw Petito’s van as they were spotting for elk on Aug. 29.

“He thought he had seen the white sprinter van described — blacked out rims, wheels,” said Tyler Valentine. “We all live in this small town, so when this stuff happens, we all take a little bit of initiative and try to look out for things.”

What’s interesting about Spread Creek is that Petito had marked the place as a possible camping area through the Dyrt website, something Valentine and his friend were unaware of when we spoke with them.

Photo shows person who looks like Brian Laundrie walking Florida street

Authorities are probing whether a cellphone photo taken Friday of a man cops say looks a “heck” of a lot like the boyfriend of missing Long Island woman Gabby Petito, is indeed Brian Laundrie, who disappeared this week after being named a person of interest in his girlfriend’s disappearance, The Post has learned.

The photo was snapped just before 5 p.m. Friday on Targee Ave in North Port — about two blocks from Laundrie’s parents’ home, metadata from the image reveals.

Gabby called family near 'zone of death' where 'perfect murder' could happen

GABBY Petito's last contact with her family came when she was just miles from the so-called "zone of death" — an area of remote wilderness where a legal loophole has led some to believe a murderer could get away scot-free there.

Although most of Yellowstone National Park falls into Wyoming State, some parts are located in Montana and Idaho — causing a loophole that could be exploited by criminals.

The zone of death is a 50-mile stretch of land in Yellowstone National Park.

Michigan State University law professor Brian C Kalt explains the area in his 2005 Georgetown Law Journal paper, known as The Perfect Crime.

Woman Claims She Picked up Brian Laundrie Hitchhiking in Wyoming | PEOPLE.com
[...]

In the first clip, the woman, who identifies herself as Miranda Baker, claims the pair picked up a hitchhiking Laundrie, 23, on Aug. 29 at Colter Bay in Grand Teton National Park. Baker said that she and her boyfriend had been in contact with authorities after hearing about Gabrielle Petito's missing persons case on the social media platform.

North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor confirmed to PEOPLE that officials had in fact spoken with Baker "and have collected her information."

[...]

In the TikTok video, Baker claimed that Laundrie approached the couple around 5:30 p.m. local time that evening in need of a ride to Jackson, where she said they happened to be heading (She clarified the official pick-up time as 5:44 p.m. in a subsequent video on her TikTok page).

She alleged that he offered them $200 for the 10-mile drive before allowing him tag along.

[...]

During some small talk, Baker claimed Laundrie mentioned he had been camping "for multiple days without his fiancée," who he said was "working on their social media page back at their van."

When Baker claimed to have brought up the couple's own plans to go to Jackson Hole, she said Laundrie allegedly "freaked out" and insisted he get out of the car. Baker said she pulled over at the Jackson Dam, not far from Colter Bay, at 6:09 p.m.

[...]

On the day she allegedly picked up Laundrie, Baker claimed he was wearing a backpack, long sleeves, and hiking boots. Despite some scruffy facial hair, however, she claims Laundrie didn't seem to look or smell "dirty."

[...]

In a second video, Baker alleged that Laundrie had confessed to camping at an unregulated site in the National Park "in the middle of nowhere along Snake River."

[...]

"I first heard about this on TikTok a few days ago, which is why I'm putting this up on TikTok — to reach out to someone who also might have seen him and picked him up before or after we did," she said in the last clip.

Gabby Petito: FBI and Park Rangers search campsite believed used by missing YouTuber | The Independent
[...]

A team of FBI agents and park rangers have carried out a major search of a wild campsite believed to have been used by missing YouYuber Gabby Petito.

Several dozen officers from the FBI, the US Forest Service, Teton County Sheriff’s office and other agencies, spent hours on Saturday searching for clues at the site at Spread Creek Road, about 20 miles north of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

[...]

Officials have said very little about the search or what they may have found. The National Park Service said the operation was being led by the Denver office of the FBI. That office did not immediately respond to inquiries.

Yet, it appears the area, a so-called dispersal camping site which has no facilities appears to be considered for several reasons.

It is just a few miles from Jenny Lake, where a member of the public claims to have seen the white 2012 Ford Transit van that Ms Petito and her boyfriend were using for their cross-country trip, on 25 August.

It is possible that the couple may have stayed at the site. It has been widely reported that Ms Petito did tag numerous a number of potential campsites on an app called The Dyrt, among them this one.

It is also less than ten miles from where another visitor to the national park, Amanda Baker, said she and her boyfriend, gave a lift to Mr Laurie, who was hitch-hiking by himself on August 29.
