I'm just reading an article on this myself on a different site. Interesting, although I thought it probable from the get go.

The pilot used an axe to try to get into the cockpit :(

AS police made a ‘significant discovery’ at Germanwings co-pilot Andreas Lubitz’s home, reports emerged of how the captain used an axe to try and get back into the cockpit.
German daily Bild cited security sources saying the captain, Patrick Sonderheimer, tried using an axe to break down the cockpit’s armoured door.
This could not be immediately confirmed, but a spokesman for Germanwings confirmed to AFP that an axe was on board the aircraft.
Such a tool is “part of the safety equipment of an A320,” the spokesman told Bild.
The news comes after Lubitz reportedly suffered a major breakdown following a recent relationship breakdown.
According to The Telegraph in the UK, Lubitz was engaged to be married next year, but had recently broken up with his fiancee. It is understood that the 28-year-old was struggling to cope after the relationship failed.
The theory emerged hours after The Guardian reported Lubitz stopped his training to be a pilot six years ago because he was suffering from “psychological problems”.
The report, quoted from German daily Bild, said the Lufthansa flight school in Phoenix designated Lubitz at the time as “not suitable for flying”.

While the Daily Mail is hardly a credible news source, they often do have breaking stuff:

The Germanwings co-pilot who crashed his plane into a mountain killing himself and 149 people on board was receiving psychiatric counselling right up until the crash, it emerged today.

As well as having been signed off from training with depression in 2008, it was reported this morning that Lubitz had continued to receive mental health support up until this week's crash.

German newspaper Bild also reported that he was in the middle of the 'relationship crisis' with his girlfriend in the weeks before the crash and may have been struggling to cope with a break-up.

Yesterday, Lubitz's boss admitted he had slipped through the ‘safety net’ and should never have been flying.

Last night police raided Lubitz’s family home in a small town north of Frankfurt and an apartment in Dusseldorf, taking away a computer, laptop and other files. Lubitz is understood to have split his time between the two addresses.

Apparently some goober set up a FB page called Soutien-à-Andreas-Lubitz-héro-de-lEtat-Islamique (Support Andreas Lubitz, Hero of The Islamic State). It has since been removed, but it is spoken about in this offbeat publication.

Could be some idiots jumping on the band wagon, getting people revved up. I haven’t seen any evidence for such a claim yet.

I tracked down every article on every site that I could find. It seems they are all the same article, just a copy/paste job, except the one lauding this act in Arabic (I presume it's Arabic). I may think it possible he was a terrorist, but I need a bit more information before it's proven, one way or the other.

I understand in the USA a member of the cabin crew sits in if the pilot or co-pilot leave the cockpit. However I think realistically there would be little they could do if the pilot or co-pilot were intentionally crashing the plane.
I can't speak for other carriers……however we have a crash axe located behind the CAPT….I know what I would be using in such an event.

The author of the original article, Michael Mannheimer, seems to have a particular interest in Islam (and its crimes against Germany).

He also has a blog, with its own section on the subject.

That red thing (robe/blanket/rug) showing in the evidence box is curious. jmo Why did they have to show that red thing? gah...probably nothing. Can't wait for the evidence.

Looking at the bottom of the box, seems to be a little heavy. My first thought was a pet! Did they find a deceased animal in his home. I looks like the biohazard bag that my dog was in when we brought him home to bury him after we had to put him to sleep. [emoji22] moo
They found something they are going to have tested?

Citing police sources, Bild said the investigation is examining whether Lubitz had been suffering from a “personal life crisis”. He is said to have had a relationship crisis with his girlfriend and to have suffered emotional problems. The local Westerwälder newspaper said Lubitz and his girlfriend had been together for seven years and were living in a flat in Düsseldorf.

Citing internal documents and Lufthansa sources, Bild said Lubitz spent a total of one and a half years in psychiatric treatment and that the relevant documents would be passed to French investigators once they had been examined by German authorities.

My goodness are they short on pilots there or did they not want to hurt his feelings and tell him to find another job. wth 1 1/2 years in treatment and they still let him fly.?

On Friday however, the German newspaper Bild said that the Lufthansa flight school in Phoenix, Arizona had designated Lubitz at the time as “not suitable for flying”.

The newspaper said he spent a year-and-a-half receiving psychiatric treatment. Several times he was forced to repeat his flying classes because of depression, before he successfully finished his training. In 2009 he was diagnosed with a “severe depressive episode”, Bild reported.

He was given “special regular medical examination” by a doctor as well as the coding “SIC”. This coding also appeared on his pilot’s licence.

So he was with this girlfriend during the training and treatment time.

It is astounding, isn't it? Perhaps they are not allowed to discriminate because of mental issues? But come on, people. This was someone you gave the responsibility of hundreds of lives ... up in the air ... no running away was possible for the victims ... no hiding was possible for the victims ... no protecting themselves was possible at all. :(

Surely ground duties would have been more appropriate.

Bild reported that on several occasions his training at Lufthansa's — Germanwings' parent company — flight school in Phoenix, Arizona, was interrupted for mental health reasons. The German tabloid reported that he may even have undergone treatment after being what it called "demoted" several times during his training there.

Would love to see the scarf around his neck unwrapped.

Germanwings/Lufthansa are going to be sued for substantial damages by the victims families since they allowed him to fly in my opinion.

From my experience only, a crash axe would only be found in the F/D which is secured by a ballistic door. Sounds odd that a weapon of that kind would be available for use in the cabin.

Neighbors here in Lubitz’s home town described him as a reserved but “sweet” man who enjoyed long runs through the local woods and had a winning smile. One neighbor who would not give his name said he had known Lubitz since he was a child and did not believe that the 27-year-old had been on a suicide mission. “I have my theories about what happened, but someone who would do something like that would not run through the woods to keep fit,” the neighbor said.

bbm, I would like to talk to this neighbor.

I read that another neighbor said he lived next door or nearby for 22 years but didn't know AL very well but knew the brother.
