Yes, it looks like he is able to control his urges, killing only when his family is reliably away. That makes his "kill window" rather small.
Not necessarily.
It only takes a few seconds to kill a person.
It might however make his torture window very small had he only used his home place for victims.
I do wonder whether he had access to another location as well, a place he could leave them tied up and alive that did not require his constant presence.
I'm thinking this way because I believe, without evidence he was involved in other murders. JMO

Ahhhh thank you so much! I’ve read the bail application several times too, I think my brain is on overload since the news broke on Friday! Wow….42 days gone in 2009….that’s concerning for a few reasons. He also went during that time period though, too, IIRC, maybe met his family over there before traveling back home with them?
... explains why he was able to "keep" MB for a while, as he admitted when calling MB's sister.

Sick.

“It seems like he’s very comfortable in his cell and his surroundings,” Mr Toulon said. “He’s indicated to my staff that he would not be any issue to us and would be extremely compliant, so we’ll see how that plays out in the days and weeks ahead.”

Hmmm... Interesting.

The wife was told at the same time her husband was arrested. They also handed her a warrant to search the home, so No she would not have had access to those photos. She may have been shown photos from the crime scene.

I hope her passport and her children's passports are returned to her so she can go away to Iceland until the dust settles in her life. She can return when she's ready. But I realize where ever she goes there she is and it must be horrible to be in her skin right now.
But her family (father and sister) are here. They should get their passports and other items back, however. <modsnip> I know she has been in the U.S. since a child. I feel heartbroken for his wife and children.

I can't even imagine... they had to walk away from everything they owned.

Does anyone know the exact dates his wife left and returned from her trips that coincided with the girls missing/murders or approximately how long she would be gone for? I wonder if he went trolling for victims as soon as she left and had ample time to clean up/repair/replace things around the house if necessary.
Following info from Bail Application:

Maureen Brainard-Barnes [Heuermann not yet charged with her death]
Last seen alive: 9 July 2007 in New York City
Defendant’s wife's location during crime: neither cell billing records nor travel/financial records were available for Heuermann’s wife in 2007 due to retention policies and, therefore, it remains undetermined if Heuermann’s wife was out-of-state during Brainard-Barnes’ disappearance and murder.

Melissa Barthelemy
Last seen alive: 10 July 2009 in NYC
Defendant’s wife's location during crime: From 8 July 2009 through 18 Aug 2009, Heuermann’s wife was out of the country (she departed for Iceland 8 July 2009). Heuermann himself departed for Iceland on 10 Aug 2009 and returned from Iceland 18 Aug 2009.

Megan Waterman
Last seen alive: 6 June 2010 at Holiday Inn in Hauppauge, NY
Defendant’s wife's location during crime: 4 June 2010, Heuermann’s wife’s cell traveled from NY state to Maryland and on 8 June 2010 her cell returned to New York from Maryland

Amber Costello
Last seen alive: 2 Sept 2010 as she left her home at 1112 America Ave., West Babylon during late evening hours
Defendant’s wife's location during crime: 28 Aug 2010, Heuermann’s wife’s cell traveled from New York to New Jersey and returned to New York 5 Sept. 2010

Don't fool me with that act. MOO

“For Melissa's family, the arrest of a suspect almost 13 years after her body was discovered was particularly unnerving. This was because the suspect had taunted Melissa's family, using her own mobile phone to make calls to them in 2009.

Multiple calls were made soon after her disappearance, including one in which he admitted to killing her. The first calls were made July 16, July 19, and July 23 - just days after her disappearance.”

RH had his largest window when his wife went to Iceland from July 8, 2009 until August 18, 2009. Could he have kept MB alive in that house for a few days while taunting her family with these phone calls? I’m thinking this recent news that evidence of a victim possibly being killed in that home is actually a reality. LE is emptying that house!

Thank you for this outline and information. The time he had alone during Melissa’s disappearance/murder is the most concerning to me (not that the others aren’t). I can’t help but wonder what she could have possibly endured and it’s sickening.

Next-door neighbor says he would see RH in front of his house in his car, engine running, in late-night hours. Once heard RH digging in the yard late at night and claims RH burned his garbage every few weeks, which is not allowed in that area. Neighbor didn't like him.
