Ugh..the thought is disturbing. 20-30 sounds like a lot. I have never seen a buzzard before. How big are these things usually?

Buzzards are quite large and aren't easily scared off when there is ample food around. I lived in Lynchburg for years and I live in a rural area now where I've seen a deer die and then days later buzzards appear after the body has indeed exploded and then there isn't anything left sometimes they'll take off large parts of the body including bones and spread them far over the area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey_vulture I've even had one fly into the front of my car because it thought my SUV was threatening it's food it died and destroyed my headlight and bumper.

Yesterday, I asked my relative (LE on the case) and he said it hadn't been confirmed it was HG & there wasn't any proof it was her. As for the sgt who did the interview, he said the guy was wrong to talk & wrong to get HG's family's hopes up b/c it could turn out to be someone else. He made it sound like LE was not happy w/the sgt. I'm hoping it's her but seems wise to be skeptical. Of course they would tell the family b/c media will be following every move & would be awful for the family to hear about a body (even if not HG) from anyone other than Longo. Of course, my relative isn't going to say much about the investigation but he is there on the site now continuing to look for evidence.

BBM.

Thanks for wanting to pass along info you hear from your relative (although I'm nervous about us being privy to any inside info!). Sounds like what he said to you (the bbm part) is giving out quite a bit of information IMO. At least it's significant info to me. If he said the man who discovered the remains was wrong to get HG's family's hopes up, that's kind of a big deal. To me, it means that he doesn't think Longo, et al communicated in any way that it was HG.

I must admit I had to google what a buzzard is haha. If there were birds Im guessing the body is only recent. As much as I wish it wasnt I think its going to be Hannah, they seem pretty certain.

Edited to add that we have gone over this topic 1000 times, somehow it always goes back to this. DNA that was on the Tshirt was Morgan's thats how they know it is indeed hers. Also his DNA might be on it as well, but as you see the DNA came from her body. .

this, it's so :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Everything points to this being Hannah except the rate of decomp. That seems to be what we're all stuck on. I am hoping they believe it's Hannah and are searching a wide area because they feel the vultures or weather spread evidence. As bittersweet as it is, we want this case to move forward with a body. You would think they would want to prioritize this with the ME since they are clearly investigating this as Hannah, day and night right now, on Old Lynchburg. That is why I'm surprised it's not prioritized. It's a cost/resource issue. If this was a random body, there would not be a command center and hundreds of resources on it. This is a case of a serial killer.

I think the gate would be in the way though.....have you seen the gate to the road? Someone had a google street view of the gate. Very creepy. But yes 31*3 had no trees to conceal..the cottage had trees and a driveway though.
I think he went up the cottage driveway and she was off to the side of the cottage in the woods on the property that the road you are talking about has access to.
MO: she was in the creek bed on the property with that road, but he went through the cottage driveway and then walked her into that spot through the woods.

Exactly what I think. I have been thinking he was rather exposed driving to the main house by that driveway- nothing to conceal him as he drove up to house. But looking at the cottage driveway on street maps, all different- much easier to roll in there, and yes I see gate on streetview- appears to be closed and how could he pull up to gate, exit the car to open, then drive thru not knowing any random car could drive by while doing that.
I bet he had seen the for sale sign in that yard for years while it was on the market- although I believe the real estate listing said cottage was rented (at time of listing for $800/mo) - not sure how he would know for sure that was a deserted property...

Yes, vultures are big & ugly. Once you've seen 10-15 along the road together, you don't want to see them again. It's scary. Here's a link on Turkey Vultures and also a link about Leesburg VA (about 100 miles from C'ville).

The Turkey Vulture is one of our largest birds. It grows as big as an eagle; up to 32 inches long, with a six-foot wingspan.

If I recall, when they were searching for Heather Elvis and found skeletal remains, LE noticed Brittanee Drexel's mother about the discovery. In the end, it was neither Heather nor Brittanee, but I think notifying the Grahams was the correct call, regardless of outcome. They were searching for their daughter and found something. I too think it's strange we haven't had a solid I.D. yet if it is Hannah. Time will tell and someone will finally get closure for their loved one.

That wasn't my point. ETA my post ended up right under your's but I wasn't reacting to your post FYI.

The protocol is to notify the Graham's because there is an active search for Hannah, or her body. They did a PC to notify the media and public. They probably called off the search because they are directing their efforts to this body. If it is not Hannah, the search for her will recommence.

Hope that helps.

That unknown DNA was entered into CODIS, just like the DNA from MH that linked her killer to the Fairfax case. I am pretty positive that if JLM was a match it would have triggered it at the same time the link to MH became apparent.
Do you think the silence on the results indicates a negative match, or potentially waiting to reveal the connection at trial or maybe soon?

I wonder why they had John Graham come to the site unless it was to ID an item of clothing....or something unmistakably from Hannah..

IDK. I read that the rape victim from 2005 was assaulted on the grass by the pool at an apartment/condo area.
I don't think he's that smart to plan...I think he just spots an easy target and acts on it..then go to a familiar dump spot.

Here's what I don't get...
If his family lives near there, why would he dump bodies there? Isn't that like p**ping where you sleep? He would dump dead girls near where his mom lives??

because those are areas he feel comfortable in more often than not thats where bodies killed by people like him get dumped.

I'll look it up and post a link. It will take a few minutes. Well, actually. I had it bookmarked.. so it was easy.. and she is from Alexandria not Norfolk. ( my typo and I have been looking a NUMEROUS missing persons all day) My eyes are crossed.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/bell_shaquita.html

But I have been posting about the transgendered guy/girl who went missing but at the time of his/her disappearance he/she had on grey sweatpants but I wondering if he/she didn't change clothes.

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/smith_dashad.html
Shaquita went missing in 96 and the guy convicted said the body is in MD. I don't think it's related. Dashad is possible but I think they would quickly be able to determine if the body was that of a man or woman. I still wouldn't discount Dashad but I think chances are much greater it is Hannah.

I think we will officially know the identity tomorrow and the remains will be confirmed to be Hannah. Not sure why the short delay compared to many other cases, but if dealing with just bones, it may take longer. I thought they would do dental records, though.

I appreciate your considerate response. :) The point I was attempting to make was it wasn't just the one thing such as notifying the Grahams. It was all the things I listed plus I'm sure I'm missing some. We'll all know soon enough anyway.

Well, I guess we will.
